Re: The Coaching Career of Michael Smith(a Bears Dynasty)

Here's the rest of my draft:

2-38-LT Ray Cody-Oregon
2-41-Traded to the Patriots for their 4th round(103rd), 6th round(192nd), and their 2010 2nd round pick.
2-45-Traded to the Browns for their 3rd round(69th), 5th round(147th), and 2010 4th round pick.
3-66-Traded RE Kyle Vanden Bosch to Packers for this pick, drafted LOLB from San Jose State.
3-69-CB Amos Bird-Wyoming
3-80-FB Phil kelly
3-87- Traded RT John Tait and 7th round(198) for this pick, drafted DT Sam Sosa from Texas.
4-103-WR Marc Collins-Tennessee State
4-112-RG Elvis Quinn-Iowa-I'll probably move him to LG
4-114-FS-Devin Gabriel-New Hampshire
5-131- CB Freddie Lewis-Minnesota
5-137-WR Dee Norwood-Midwestern State-My first mistake. I should have drafted the WR from North Carolina here, instead of getting him undrafted.
5-141-RT Josh Farms-
5-147-ROLB-Wally Martin-Iowa
5-158-MLB Nate Kennard-VMI
6-163-P Albert hayde-Rhode Island-He has 99 Kicking Power
6-179-WR-Eli Allan-Ohio State-the good Ohio State receiver
6-192-RE Dequan Henry-Brown
7-193-QB Tyshawn Parrish-Texas
7-199-FS Thomas Opoe-Oklahoma
7-201-HB Jamal Washington-Richmond
7-205-SS Ben Russel-Maine
7-208-LT-Warren Gilbert-West Carolina
7-210-LG-Eric McCracken-Lehigh

Undrafted:
WR-North Carolina-should have drafted him
K-Cornell
C-Michigan-in case I can't re-sign my starting center
CB-Pittsburgh State
FB-Northern Illinois

Comments: I may convert one of the CBs to free safety, they may be better than the FSs I drafted. I'll probably rotate the Wrs; I expect to carry 6 on my roster. There's a good chance Tillman will be my third CB, he's good, but I have better. I'd really like to shed Tillman's contract, but it may not be feasible at this time.

I'll list the rookie signings, and training camp moves next.

Re: The Coaching Career of Michael Smith(a Bears Dynasty)

One thing is for sure, contract makes a big difference when you look to trade a player. I had signed Tony Gonzalez to that 2 year 16 million contract, and I couldn't get a single team to trade for him. I later cut Gonzalez and signed him to a 1 year 3 million dollar deal, and teams couldn't give away their draft picks fast enough. I eventually traded Tony Gonzalez to the 49ers for their 2010 1st round pick and their 2011 3rd round pick. Now to the rookie signings and other stuff:

Traded LE Adewale Ogunleye to the Rams for their 2010 3rd round pick and their 2011 5th round pick-I'll have to be careful on draft picks next year-my roster is close to full.

All rookie signing are without incentives.

TE Drew Carey-5 yrs, 36.5 million, with a 8 million signing bonus.
LE Doki Somanu-5 yrs, 19.0 million, 3.5 million signing bonus.
HB Ozzie Jones, 5 yr, 14.6 million, 2.5 million bonus.
RG Scott Burke-5 yr, 10.8 million, 2.0 million bonus
RT Ray Cody-Oregon-4 yr, 2.5 million, 500,000 bonus
LOLB Dejuan Simpkins-San Jose State-3 yr, 2.0 million, no bonus
CB Amos Bird-Wyoming-3 yr, 1.6 million, no bonus
FB Phil Kelly-Ohio-3 yr, 1.9 million bonus, no bonus.
WR Marc Collins, Tennessee State, 3 yr, 1.2 million, no bonus.
RG Elvis Quinn-Iowa-3 yr, 1.5 million, no bonus. I moved him to LG.
CB Freddie Lewis-Minnesota-3 yr, 780,000, no bonus.
WR Dee Norwood-Midwestern State-3 yr, 770,000, no bonus.
RT Josh Farms-North Texas-3 yr, 800,000, no bonus.
ROLB Wally Martin-Iowa-3 yr, 780,000, no bonus.
Traded FS Kelin Johnson to the Texans for their 2011 3rd round pick.
MLB Nate Kennard-VMI-3 yr, 760,000, no bonus.
WR Eli Allan- Ohio State-3yr, 680,000, no bonus.
RE Dequan Howry-Brown-3 yr, 650,000, no bonus.
QB Tyshawn Parrish-Texas-3 yr, 800,000, no bonus.
FS Thomas Opoe-Oklahoma-2 yr, 820,000, no bonus.
HB Jamal Washington-Richmond, 3 yr, 800,000, no bonus.
SS Ben Russel-Maine- 2 yr, 850,000, no bonus.
LT Darnell Gilbert-West Carolina-3 yr, 600,000 bonus.

Traded RG Roy Schuening to the Raiders for 2011 2nd round pick.
I bought Major School Insider for my GM.

DT-Sam Sosa-Texas-3 yr, 1.6 million, no bonus.
P-Albert Hayden-Rhode Island-3 yr, 680,000, no bonus.

That's about it for now, I expect I'll mostly do practices till the first preseason game. I'm going to try and get all of the plays in both playbooks to Mastery level, so I may be playing preseason games for awhile. It may be some time before I next update my dynasty.

*EDIT* I made one final move before the first preseason game. I traded CB Charles Tillman to the Redskins for their 2011 2nd round pick and 20111 5th round pick. I incurred a big penalty- 3 million bonus a year * 5 years= 15 million cap penalty. I had plenty of cap space though, and I had just drafted 2 very talented cornerbacks. It really will be a good move for my dynasty going forward.

Awesome draft, pretty much built a whole brand new team through the draft, btw was Doki's potential as a balanced de or balanced dt...

Balanced DE. LE was a big need for me going into this draft; I never even considered moving Doki to DT. Only one of my defensive formations, 4-2-5, uses more than 1 DT.

You really have to totally rebuild the Bears through the draft. They have a lot of players on the roster who are good at a particular scheme, but aren't very good overall. I think in particular of Adewale Ogunleye. He has a 87 overall under the Bears default philosophy, but only a 81 overall Balanced. There were a lot of players on the Bears default roster who were career backups or mediocre players that the Bears signed to long-term deals. I think I've done a good job of removing these players from the roster.

Re: The Coaching Career of Michael Smith(a Bears Dynasty)

I am sorry I meant to say what is his potential as a balanced DE... (my bad, typing to fast and not checking my grammer)

Anyways I know what u mean I have had to do it to several teams, on my bear franchise I decided to use Super Chargers Attack on offense to take advantage of Greg Olsen and my newly aqriued HB Marion Barber... And on the defense I decided to just use Dungy Cover 2, since the bears were more set up to be a cover 2 team...

Re: The Coaching Career of Michael Smith(a Bears Dynasty)

Spoiler

I've got one other interesting tidbit to report. I'll recently been looking to upgrade special teams, and I noticed that there were hardly any placekickers with a overall over 90. I've seen my own kicker, Robbie Gould drop from a 91/94 overall to 89/91. It's beginning to make me regret trading Serna.

Re: The Coaching Career of Michael Smith(a Bears Dynasty)

I have never had any luck out of Serna he always is costing me games in the clutch, I like very accurate kickers... But then I noticed that in this game kicking field goals and running are two very hard things to come by...

Re: The Coaching Career of Michael Smith(a Bears Dynasty)

Ok, I've finally got all my plays in both playbooks to Learned Status, so I'll restart the career. My offensive playbook does have a few too many counters and screen passes, so I might consider deleting the unsuccessful ones onece the preseason is over. I did make one trade before the first preseason game, trading for P Mike Scifres of the Chargers for my 2010 5th and 2011 3 rd round pick. He's a 92 overall punter, and should upgrade my special teams.

Preseason game 1- Bears Beat Bucs 23-13. I super-simmed this game, and there were a lot of turnovers.

Passing:

Woodson-7-21-89-0-3
Johnson10-18-147-1-1

Rushing:

Jones- 4 for -5
Dunlap-9-45

Receiving:

Jackson-5-48
Rogers-3-39
Allan-3-64
Collins-2-20
Bennett-1-21
Carey-1-11
Doucet-1-15

Blocking-Carey-2 pancakes

Defensive:

Urlacher-7 Tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack
Rivers-5 tackles
Campbell-5 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 sacks
Bake-4 tackles, 3 TFL, 3 sacks
Howry-3 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 sacks
Somanu-2 tackles, 1 TFL
Opoe- 2 tackles, 2 INT
Bowman, 1 tackle, 1 INT
Vasher-1 tackle, 1 INT
