Just like with Mizzou last night, it was a lose-lose for FSU. If they lose, they didn't deserve to be (in the playoff, in the NY6) and if they win, the other team (Georgia, Ohio State) didn't care because they wanted to be in the playoff, had opt-outs, backups, etc.

It's just lazy and predictable.

Re: 2023 Bowl Games Discussion

Georgia is still really really good. I'm not sure Georgia doesn't win it again had it gotten in.

Auburn is pretty bad, but was still a miracle play away from somehow beating Alabama. College football doesn't make sense sometimes.

Re: 2023 Bowl Games Discussion

Another problem bowls have going against them with players opting out is that there are just too many of them, they aren't as important as they used to be when there were as few as 20. So they ought to play 15 bowls during December/January, and then play another 15-20 in April.

Good point about the unpredictability of college football.

And Georgia is how Ohio State should've come out last night - ****ed off with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove.

Much like Alabama last year in the Sugar Bowl. I think it's indicative of the culture established by the coach.

That said, this game is glorious and I hope Kirby keeps his foot on the gas and goes for 100.
This is my take as well. It doesn't matter if FSU showed up with everybody and hell bent on winning this game and still got whooped. That would have no bearing on whether or not they deserved to be in the playoffs.

Even if they would get destroyed in a playoff game, they earned that right to get their *** kicked

The only way you're going to keep guys from opting out is incentivizing them to play. Wouldn't surprise me if NIL deals have bowl game bonuses at some point

Bake them into the NIL deals? Like NFL contracts?

$250k for the season; $10k for playing 50%+ of snaps in the game, $50k for being named offensive MVP, etc.

I like that idea a lot.
