Re: College Football Off Topic

I get the hate on UCFs schedule...

...but have you seen the BigTen West?

And then there are all the accolades Bama gets for beating Vandy, Arkansas, ole Miss etc...

The ACC? Yawn.

The Big12 carries a lot of weak teams, but I think I'd rather be Bama trying to get thru their sec schedule than consistently have to beat the often-hyper offenses of Texas Tech, TCU, OSU in the Big 12.

The college game is crazy top heavy.

I'd prefer not to criticize UCFs schedule until seeing more of them against "big"schools, like Auburn last year.

I'd be willing to bet UCF could win the Pac12 orthe Big Ten West, and likely 2nd in the ACC this year.

The first two out, seven and eight, are typically not deserving nor good enough to get in. For example, that's Michigan and UCF, who I do not need to get started on. However, that means last season's UCF which was much more deserving than this one would have gotten in at six and Wisconsin/Penn State would have been the first two out, which was fine.

Eight is too many, eight is like the NCAA Tournament with teams who really shouldn't be in there, but they're still there. Four is too little because per the eye test, metrics, etc, 4-5-6, are typically equal.

My two cents.
Yes. Less than 10% of teams making it is the same as 60+ teams making it in basketball.....

Thank you for picking out one sentence in my whole post (which doesn't make or break any point I was making) just for the sake of arguing...

I'd actually like to know your answer to that question as well to see where you are coming from.

(Sorry if this comes off as arguing for the sake of arguing)

No problem and I think it does.

If you win your conference or go undefeated, you should get a chance. People saying "well so and so doesn't deserve....." , that's just BS to me. Because a team doesn't pass someone's eye test they don't deserve a chance? C'mon, man.

You're telling me your opinion is that the four most deserving teams should get in. I am not going to argue with you, it's your opinion, but I will state that you are wrong factually according to the CFP Rules.

The format of the College Football Playoff is simple: the four best teams

It is not: the most deserving
it is not: the conference champions
it is not: undefeated teams
it is not: only one team from each conference
and it is definitely not: a popularity contest.

The NCAA Tournament is different, winners from each conference get a bid, sure, that is the rule. However, back to my original point, not all conferences are created equal. I shouldn't have even brought up the NCAAT, it's apples-oranges and it's just going to cause confusion.

Are you so sure about that? The SEC is over-valued and as a Notre Dame fan I can tell you this, this year you can make a case that they're probably not Top 4 in the nation based on their scheduling but it's a prestige school and they've looked dominant at times against lesser opponents. If they weren't Notre Dame you'd be hearing a lot more hemming and hawing about them. In fact, down the stretch this season there were a few analysts even saying Notre Dame shouldn't even be in the CFP.

If they want to be credible and make it not be a popularity contest than give a school like UCF a chance. Who the hell knows what they could do. It could be like that blowout between Hawaii and Georgia at the '08 Sugar Bowl or it could be like the '07 Fiesta Bowl between Boise State and Oklahoma.

Either way, we can't tell for sure and thus putting UCF in the CFP would at least answer SOME questions as to their validity.
