I figured going into the year, even before we got a glimpse of the new offense, that if there was ever a year for Miami to blow FSU out, this was it. It's never surprising to see this rivalry keep a game close, but this year feels like it is as lopsided as the series has felt since at least 2013.
Miami fans have been clamoring for the spread for 15 years now and we finally have it and in the small sample size we have, it's producing exactly how it was predicted to produce with the SoFla talent. Even though Miami's WR corp is well below standards right now, the offense is still light years ahead of all of the pro-style offenses that were forced out there for the past decade plus because that was the "Miami brand".
If the offense continues to look this good all year despite it's clear deficiencies at OL and WR, then I hope Manny and the admin pay Lashlee whatever he wants and keep him around for a long time. He seems like a guy with goals that will be gone within 2 years for a HC gig, but I'd love to make him one of the highest paid OC's in the game and have him be our Venables if he keeps the offense chugging along as a strong unit.
The money is there for Miami to do exactly that, but the school is typically cheap when it comes to keeping coaches around, at least historically. They did offer Manny over a million to stay as DC before he took the Temple gig, and before Manny was hired and LSU and Miami were in a bidding war for Aranda, they were offering him over a million as well, so maybe times have changed at the school and they won't be as cheap moving forward.
