(You can also get them from CompUSA and BestBuy too..) I usually choose Gamespot/EB though because those guys know me.

But if your system ever acts squirrely, you can return it and swap it out during the length of the ESA, getting you a whole new system- and often giving you the latest hardware rev. (Something that became important in 2004 when games like NCAA 05 and others weren't liking the older rev of XBOX DVD drives.. and similar things happened on older PS2 hardware too.)

So it tends to be a safety net that usually pays for itself rather quickly.

Just my opinion though. They now let you renew ESA agreements annually too.

Exactly. Extended service / warranty save me also. Don't ever think a new machine won't go bad. Mine did. For the amount of money we spend on a console, it's best to have the coverage behind you.

Yea, even though this guy is offering a good deal ($450 for a brand new PS3), he doesn't have a receipt to go with it. I just don't trust this situation.
I'd rather pay the extra $200 and it be mine with a receipt. I don't always buy these extended warranties, but I did buy one for my new computer which was a hefty purchase. Thank goodness because the hard drive crashed about a year and a half into it. I normally might not buy an extended warranty on a game console, but I've never spent $600 on a game console before. A $600+ game console warrants an extended warranty in my opinion.

Still curious, what does gamestop charge for one of these extended warranties? I have a $100 gift card with gamestop so I'll probably buy it there.

NO receipt = Sony laughing at you if you call with any PS3 issues. Buy it legit at EB or Best Buy.

Re: Buying a PS3

Done. Just got home from Gamestop... with a brand new PS3. I had $100 gift card from there, along with the $70 extended warranty plan and $5 reserved copy of MLB the show, my total cost was $637. Wow!
The guy was really trying to sell me a 360 though. He was showing me all these games out of the 360. I kept telling him, I only play baseball, NCAA football, and Madden. Nothing else, nothing! And since the best baseball game seems to be unanimously mlb the show, and I can always play 2k7 on the PS3... seems to me the PS3 is the way to go.

Congrats on your purchase Tanky. I find it interesting that they were really pushing the 360 on you like that. I've read elsewhere of that happening to others. I wonder if they get a bonus or something from microsoft for the number of systems sold.

I don't find that unusual. I remember last gen they were pushing PS2 and nothing else because IT was the playa. The roles have reversed this time around. They will only push what they think will sell.
