I really think people need to be educated about the Future Value of money, compunding interest, 401k plans, etc. People shouldn't just throw their money away like this. Lets say FF is 25 years old and lost $500 on these transactions, at a 10% rate of return, thats $22,600 at retirement. Now this example is only if he paid CASH for the PS3, if he financed that thing, it will only get worse.

There is also the opportunity cost of both time and money for purchasing a system that you are just going to get rid of a few months later. Imagine all the things that could have been accomplished instead of playing that system you never really liked in the first place.

Anyway, that is all, I just see alot of people wasting money all over the place and I am sure there comes a time that they's rather have that money back.

I can't recommend a book called, Your Money or Your Life, enough. It really makes you look at what you value and how you spend your money a lot differently. I won't spoil the book but it defines money in a very powerful way and makes you realize when you waste it what you're actually wasting is your life.

I couldn't agree more with what Pared said; you're wasting money by doing these trades. When you buy things that don't actually provide fulfillment for you, you're wasting money and the life hours you traded to get that money.

Some people are impulsive and buy on impulse. Some people are truly "consumers." Look at the definition of "consume" and see if you still want to be considered a consumer.

There's also a tendecy, culturally, to want "more." I'm sure we're all guilty of it in some aspect of our lives. I'm sure people buy games that they play for a few hours and then they're buying another one and another. It's a tough trap to get out of. When what you want is "more" than what you have is "never enough." I've really been trying to cut back on games and actually play the hell out of the ones I do have before buying another one. I try to avoid buying games right when they come out, too. I wait for the "buzz" to die down and then decide if it's actually a good game or a passing buzz.

I personally don't think it is just about the money. It's the need to have the best and recapture some of the fun of yesteryear. I sold my Xbox 360 after purchasing a PS3 b/c I wanted a bluray player. I also wanted the Show b/c everyone was ranting and raving about it. The irony is I'm not even a baseball fan. Is the game good sure but I barely play it. I find myself getting mad at myself for selling my 360 when I hear news of 30fps vs 60 fps but the real irony is that I barely have time to play the thing as it is. This time I'm just keeping the PS3 enjoying it for what it is. My friends have PS3's so I can game online with them and quite frankly I'd rather game with my real life friends over PSN than game with strangers over Live. I'm no longer worried if the grass is greener on the other side of the fence this time. I must have bought and sold 10 PS2/xboxes in the last gen war and I'm not getting caught up in it again. Does the Xbox 360 have better game selection, you bet, but I don't even have the time to play the games I do have. Just appreciate what you have for what it is. The PS3 has some pluses and some minus, for me the pluses outweight the minuses.

Pared you are right man, I didn't repurchase a 360 at all, The one main reason I haven't played the ps3 beacsuse it's simple, I just didn't like it like I thought I did, and i kinda found a new hobby, video games have been good to me and bad on my wallet, I recently bought a new DSLR camera a month a go and I gotten into photography big right now, and video games have just vanished my thoughts. Like I said I have a new hobby now, but I'm still intrested in NCAA/Madden and so forth, so I don't know what to do, maybe I should just stay away from gaimng, maybe I am really growning out of it for good...It's said if thats really it...

BTW, I love digital photography. It's just as expensive a hobby though. Which model did you purchase and what lens(es) do you have?
