My ps3 just died yesterday. I got the 80010514 error and now nothing will play or load from the blu-ray drive. I called sony and a coffin is on the way. After going through 5 360's I thought I was done with this BS... oh well. I am going to give that fan test on the first page a try. It doesn't void the warranty does it?

Did the Sony CR tell you to reformat your HDD?

No. Well.. he told to do the quick format and when that didn't work he told me I'd have to send her in. BUT..... I did the full format this morning(the one that takes a while) and I put a game in and everything seems to be fine. I also did the fan test for the hell of it. Everything seems to be fine now. I guess I'll just see how things go until my coffin arrives. Maybe I won't need it. Though I might be safe and just send it in anyways. I'm pretty paranoid after all of my experiences with the 360.

Ok... scratch all of that. I made it through about half a game on NHL 08 before the game froze on me. I turned the ps3 back on and now it doesn't even recognize when I put a game in. I guess I'll just stick to playing warhawk off the hard drive until the coffin arrives.

That's a shame that the full reformat didn't fix it.

Can you watch movies without the error?

If I installed my own HDD (250gig) and this error comes do you think that trick would work?

well actually I'm asking for my lil brother but if anyone can confirm I'd appreciate it. Also with him swapping out for a bigger HDD that automatically voids his warranty correct?
