I was lucky. I was right in the middle of finishing one game on my phat and starting a new game that I could transfer over. (Batman AA) I lost my Star Wars TFU save and a few other saves but had the Plats already or had them completed so it was fairly easy to transition over.

I took advantage of this, my 60gig fatty YLOD on me again, so i hurried and fixed and went and traded it in.

I took it apart, down to the motherboard and did a reheat sync on it using a heat gun and thermal paste. Found it on youtube doing a "fix the YLOD for PS3" search. They had some very good video instructions.

Doesn't that void the warranty?

Secondly, I really want to trade my 80gb bulky PS3 in, but the hardware component covering the memory slots on the console (which people hardly ever use) somehow fell off my console, and according to gamestop.com everything needs to be intact for the trade to be successful. How should I go about getting that cover thing back on? I obviously can't tape or glue it or any ghetto **** like that.

Well mine was already out of warranty so taking it apart did not bother me. My wife called the local gamestop and asked what they would give for a broke ps3, they told her over $100. Since my NCAA 11 disc was stuck in the console I had to fix the sytem anyway. MY wife brought my PS3 and 10 old games and traded it in. We paid $.58 for the new one. She said the employee hooked it up, put a game in it to see if it worked, played for a sec and turned it off. As far as fixing the cover, is it broke or did it just fall off?

Pretty sure it just fell off. I came home and it was on the floor separate from the console. Looks like it won't fit back on the hinges though. Any suggestions?
