Question PS4 of videos to facebook slowing the network to crawl

Here is what is happening. I have Time Warner Cable with 50MB download and 5MB upload. Whenever I choose to share a game video via facebook, I begin the upload and it works fairly well. However, I recently discovered that it basically hogs every ounce of network bandwidth I have. It essentially renders every facet of my network unusable until the upload completes.

Computers on my network lose internet connectivity (literally windows says not internet access on the taskbar. The computer that doesn't actually lose internet is so slow no webpages will load and it is basically unusable.

I have tested 2-3 times and can confirm this only happens when uploading videos to facebook via the PS4. When I begin large transfers via my PC, the network is fine.

Anyone else seen this or have any ideas what to try? I've been a network admin for 15 years so I am experienced in networking and PCs but I don't know much about the PS4 yet.

Thanks. Hope someone can help out.

I've only uploaded one video that was large enough to notice (an 800mb doozy) but noticed this as well. Many parts of the PS4 were nearly unusable also. Was quite surprising.

Did you upload while you were playing or after from the main PS4 interface? I originally uploaded several clips while I played on launch night (at 2-3am) so everyone was asleep and nobody would have noticed a massive drop in network performance.

What cable provide do you have?

Cox, started while I was playing, quit, tried to browse the what's new and PSN and it was incredibly slow if it didn't time out.

Re: PS4 of videos to facebook slowing the network to crawl

I've done a lot of testing and tweaking, changed wired LAN to wireless, changed MTU settings, manually entered all IP and network info and nothing fixes it. If I choose to upload a video to facebook, it takes up so much network resources that even the PS4 store becomes unresponsive. This is a real inconvenience. Hope someone finds a fix or Sony fixes it. Maybe I should take it to another location and try it.

Any other ideas?

What about configuring QOS on your router?

You know....that's not a bad idea....however I am not even sure my router supports it. I had issues recently with the Motorola router from TWC and they came out and replaced it with an "arris" router which I had never heard of. I do little "administering" on my own home network from a router point of view. I guess I should dig in.

Still, the PS4 really shouldn't be doing this regardless. Odogg, if you have any specific suggestions I am open to them regarding the QOS....I haven't had to work with it much through the years.

Thanks.

This sounds like a bad router, possibly even your head end since it's cable, getting saturated. Nothing Sony can do about that, aside from throttling the upload which would be horrible for everyone else.

This isn't a PS4 or Sony issue.
