Re: has ea knocked this one out of the park??

Here's the thing I don't get.

Everyone always clammors about gameplay.

Gameplay, gameplay, gameplay. Extras are worthless if it isn't there. Superstar mode sucks and shouldn't be an option, we want them to concentrate on the gameplay, etc.

Finally we get perhaps the best gameplay football game of all time (relative to the current age it's in) and all people whine about is the fact that there isn't small features in there?

I don't get it. I've never had more fun with a football game and will be playing this one for a LONG time.

I don't think everyone always clamors about gameplay. Some people do it so often that you'd think they have it in their sig, but I imagine there are people to whom the features and modes matter a lot. Is it the same people who always harp on gameplay that are now complaining about the lack of features, or are these people who haven't previously done that?

While I think gameplay is the best in 2007 (360) that it's ever been in this series, I am also a little disappointed at some of the things I've seen taken out of Dynasty mode. I expected, based on all the pre-release info, that Dynasty mode was going to be identical to last year, minus the magazine covers. It's disappointing when you find something missing that you expected to be there, especially if it was a feature you liked before (like preseason All-American and All-Conference teams).

That said, I've noticed some subtle improvements as well in Dynasty mode, along with the big 'addition by subtraction' with the Discipline feature. I really like the idea of it, but as others have said, it was poorly implemented. My two biggest complaints was that individual player discipline rating didn't seem to make a difference as far as who got into trouble or not, and it was always my starters who got into trouble. I never saw one non-starter who got into trouble. Maybe they'll bring this back next year in a much improved state.

Everybody on this board keeps complaining about this and saying that features were "taken out" of the 360 version. This is not a port--it is 100% new from the ground up, on a new system with new architecture and new development tools. Nothing was taken out--you expected them to be able to recreate all of the features of current-gen, make the stadia 25 times more detailed, completely overhaul the graphics engine and control mechanics in one year. That's just ridiculous. Yes, there are features absent that you might be used to, but that's only because you're comparing apples to oranges--a brand new game that was written from the ground up to a series that has been refined with the same code base for four or five years. I think the game is fun, it plays great, and the Dynasty mode is deep enough (plus I like the stat tracking) to be a real winner. If you need chain gangs on the sidelines, either wait for 08 on 360 or stay with current gen. At least give them some more time to put in the mundane details...

Re: has ea knocked this one out of the park??

I think people just want the perfect game.

If a game has tons of features, but the gameplay sucks, people will say none of that matters without gameplay. If the gameplay is rock solid, then people say well if only dynasty mode was more in depth I would play for a long time. I'm not saying it is bad that people expect this, but it is just they way human nature is. Sometimes it can just as frustrating when something is really good, but not quite great as oppossed to just down right bad.

I don't know if that makes sense.

That makes perfect sense to me. If it was just downright bad, I'd trade it in and wouldn't worry about it anymore. You don't see me posting in forums for games I don't play or like (unlike some people). I, like most people here, just want this game to be all it can be.

How can you guys say this is the best gameplay ever when the feel of the running game absolutely blows?

That is bad news because according to Computer Gaming World Madden '07 stunk up the joint at E3.

I have been playing football games since the Atari 2600 days and nothing changes. Every year the vibe in the first week of a new release is upbeat as people procaim "This is the best thing since sliced bread." I wouldn't be surprised if EA hired some cheap overseas labor to scour the forums spreading false hopes in these forums to lure people into getting out of their chair and picking up the game. Those were my thoughts after NCAA 2006 came out and the posts sound the same as this year. I picked up the game and within hours I thought "This game blows big chunks, who are these people that say it's the best football game ever?"

I suppose it's human nature to see the good things first because you wait a year to get that new version in your hands and the excitement overwhelmes you. However, the reality is that we are at least 10 years away from having a game that plays like "real" football. Making 22 players on a field act like human is extremely difficult and the current technology only allows for limited AI programming. EA has to compensate for these limitations by installing cheats. This year they are getting cute and trying to mask the cheating by calling it a "momentum meter." I laugh at these posts that say "I was up 42-7 then the computer got momentum off a filed goal and came back and beat me."

Please folks, there is nothing here that makes me want to upgrade to the 360. I will buy the current gen version only because I want to support the companies that make football games. If people dont buy it then EA will stop making it. Every year slight progressions will be made until someday we will finally have the Holy Grail in our hands. I just hope I am still around when that day comes, but it sure as heck isn't NCAA 2007.
You "picked up the game" and thought it blew within hours, but, you are not going to "upgrade to the 360". Huh?????

Do you have it? Do you not have it? Rented it? Do you even have a 360??

Also if anyone was "hired cheap overseas labor" the hired person would probably have about about 20 posts or so....... oh wait, that s YOU!! How is the new job going???
