i can guarantee one less sale next year
The truth is, NCAA is no longer about a core football experience, crap like season showdown and RTG take away from that

The drop in sales has nothing to do with the economy but rather the drop in quality the series has faced.

I don't understand why there is a celebratory tone to most of the replies in this topic.

I'm not a fan of what NCAA football has been on this generation of consoles, but I don't understand why everyone assumes that poor sales will cause EA to go the total-simulation route. I'm of the opinion that sales continuing to slip will only prompt EA to respond by amplifying their push to attract more "casual gamers" with unecessary bells & whistles (heck, they might even go the Wii-Sports route for all we know).

I'm also not sure how less than spectacular sales bodes well for developer-community interaction. EA allowed their developement team to interact with us and allowed the hardcore community to have an influence on certain design decisions...and all it got them was fair reviews and lower sales. Let's hope the suits at EA don't equate the lower-sales with some of the design decisions that were made due to the influence of the hardcore community.

It's not really a matter of "we want sim" so much as we want a game that is

A) fun

and

B) not completely broken in key areas when it comes out of the box

NCAA hasn't been able to fulfill either of those propositions for a long time.

You need look no further than The Show for a retort. People who want to play baseball want to play a great baseball game that is true to the sport.

However, this is EA we're talking about, you need look no further than Madden Nation, a 13 week showcase of how cheesy their football can be if put into the hands of cheeseballs. I don't think you'll have to stretch too far to get a cheesy experience from an EA football title. All we want is sliders that can remedy the wide open cheese. They did a decent job with the gameplay this year except for a few glaring issues.

AI Option Logic
O-Line/D-Line interaction

However, most teams feel the exact same. They really need to differentiate the teams.

Dude, nobody is celebrating. We're all effing depressed that NCAA 04 on PS2 has more features than what we have today.

Re: The Week 1 Sales Numbers Are In.....

NCAA series is dying in front of eyes. Remind me of EA's NHL series before the new team took the game over. The NCAA is just blah. The hardcore fans have been telling EA this for the past 5 years and the only thing we get is more blah. I had hope for the series when NCAA 09 had online dynasty and this year EA came back with......Showdown feature, huh?

Then the Madden team is bold enough to come out with a 5 minute demo that is creating a positive buzz and turning NCAA into a $40 trade in at Gamestop. Take advice from the Madden team...listen to your hardcore fans. Hardcore fans are the canary in the coal mine. Some of us knew the game was dying long before these sale numbers.

Peace

NCAA fan since NCAA 99
