Re: Please Eliminate the Double CB Blitz and Engage Eight from the Playbooks

I know that Gregg Williams has the Engage 8 in his arsenal. I seriously doubt he's ever called it more than once or twice a season, but I would rather have them in than not. Maybe I've been desensitized from playing the pre-patch Madden 10 where the CPU really did blitz every single down... and I do mean EVERY SINGLE DOWN, but the blitzing is not really a bother to me this year in NCAA.

There are certain teams that I would like to see play to their real life scheme like Pittsburgh where Wandstedt is known for his zone coverage and getting pressure with the front four, but this doesn't bother me nearly as much as seeing the CPU continue to play the 4-3 every single time I bring 3 and 4 receivers on the field on 1st and 2nd down. I want to see the CPU play more nickel on early downs.

Re: Please Eliminate the Double CB Blitz and Engage Eight from the Playbooks

The CPU sending too many men has borderline ruined this game for me. I have too many competitive games that are ruined when the CPU decides to all out blitz for nearly an entire drive. My friend and I went through and called the same play out of the shotgun 5-wide for an entire half(10 min quarters). Keep in mind that we played as Uconn against USC. We sent the tight end straight up the middle every play and I managed to score 28 points on default Heisman. The only major changes were QB accuracy at 10 and Catching at 40.

We have used many slider sets to contain this problem but it's impossible due to the crappy CPU playcalling.

No need to take them out of the game though. Just do a game-wide defensive aggressiveness adjustment prior to starting your dynasty, and it should take out a lot of the goofiness.
I will definitely be trying this. I tried the coach sliders in Madden last year and it made a difference. It didn't eliminate the problem but at least it contained it.

I agree with others that you're probably just not recognizing it. I'd say that they call it no less than 3-4 times per game in my experience. As a SG only offense, this means that if I called a normal pass play, it's a huge gain every time. The CPU calling so many engage 8s on defense is just as bad as how in previous games (I don't see the problem in '11) the CPU offense would call way too many screen passes. This sucked because on probably 80% of CPU screen passes (in '10 and '09) the QB is sacked so it made the game too easy. Engage 8 on D does the same thing, sadly.

I thought the crazy blitz packages were also a problem in both NCAA and Madden last year.

Re: Please Eliminate the Double CB Blitz and Engage Eight from the Playbooks

I've saved a ton of replays from both Madden and NCAA '10 and now NCAA '11, and as I look back at them, it's funny how so many of my big pass plays occur with the 2 CBs running blitzing right at me.

This should be an easy fix in Madden this year--I'm just gonna make CPU Defensive gameplans and pick realistic plays.

I put a chart together for the Madden forum based off Football Outsiders 2009 team tendencies. I know it's the NFL, but it's an example of how often teams blitz. Here's the defensive rush part:

For this stuff to apply, the 4 man rush needs to be more effective when a team has a dominant DLine.

As mentioned above, most teams rush 5 when they blitz.

The most aggressive teams: Saints, Eagles still only send a big blitz in real life less than the CPU does in NCAA and Madden.
