You have to shut down the player making the run, focus on passing lanes, blocking crosses, and stopping long range shots. The only time I never cover the defender with the ball is if I'm covering the player making the run...maybe that's why the game plays brilliantly for me.

But knowing that ZM... shouldn't you be taking better care of your defenders?

Have you guys used the quick settings, ultra-d, def., balanced, off., ultra-off?

I stay on ultra-D, but it doesn't help. Its just crappy AI, I don't have any other way of explaining it. Between that and strikers being super human tacklers, it makes it just makes it tough on the defenses. Especially when you hit the clear out button repeatedly and nothing happens.

The funny thing is, thats not even my biggest gripe with the game. That being the still super effectiveness of the double team and the run through the player tackle. That has actually been made more effective by the less accurate passing. The kind of tackles that are made in this game would be fouls in real life. Plain and simple.

They do call fouls more this year.

I've noticed that some of my defenders come up when I don't want them to, so I've had to keep an eye for it or else I give up a one on goalie run up the middle.

ALL i want to know why the user AI escorts the attackers to the goal, why they leave acres open and retreat from someone running dead at them ????????

and jrod the fact that if you never switched to a defender he never makes a play does not bother you, then whats the use of having a good defender..

why have ferdinand, i could put crouch at CB becuase like ferdinand he wont do jack unless i DO IT

I dont want the cpu to play for me, but why do i have custom tactics especially when mine is set to double and i must mash the B button to get my team to respond( not think just respond)

the fact that not all the custom tactics work for the user's defence does not bother you........

in any other game you set a defender to play tight defence on his man AND THE DAMN GAME RECOGNISES IT, why should you have to continually press a button for that setting to trigger HOW ARE YOU MISSING THIS...

you are one of those people that feel that if i can win by doing everything myself i am an ELITIST well some of us want to play football not a seond defender cheese fest, a game where my guys play and react based on them being talented and having ratings representative of their skills......


i dare anyone to make a video of any back 4 closely marking a foward, with out him sprinting dead at him to do a magical tackle with out human assistance.....

i could have a back four of joe cole, crouch, rooney and dafoe and play the 2nd defender cheese fest and win on legendary easily thats not football.....

just like madden the higher you, the more brainless they become, i play, well used to on world class, cant play any lower too easy

Is it possible for goalkeepers to get cards? I was brought down by the CPU GK on a breakaway one time and he was clearly the last man. The foul was called, penalty awarded, but the GK did not receive a card, NOT even a yellow!

Also i hate that its possible to miss penalty kicks even if your bar is still green. My Carling Cup match went to PKs, two of my players had their shots miss the goal, even though the power bar was still green (one went well over, the other hit the crossbar). I also hit the crossbar in a league game when i had a PK, again the power bar was still green. I can understand player chances of hitting the target being affected if its in the yellow (where the player's PK rating determines the chances), but surely all shots in the green should be on target from 12 yards!?
