Good start with the new club. A draw to get settled followed by two straight wins including a complete thrashing of Morecambe. I agree with you that Plymouth is better suited for what you are wanting to accomplish with this career mode.
Does anyone know exactly what day it makes you have to decide when to buy a loaned player that has an option to buy? Will it be after the end of season funds are in, or is there a chance it forces you to decide before that?

I think it might be when it says the loan is about to expire. Same time when loaned in players with no option to buy. It'll come up anyway. You'll get the league funds.

Thanks! I'm trying to plan out my transfer window coming up.

I think it's like the last day before the season finishes...meaning before you advance to the next season. So you would get all of your funds before you have to buy him.
And on my window. That was the most surprising thing I strengthened my team 10 fold in the back and still made a hell of a profit.

I think you have to make the decision around the 30th of May but if you choose to buy player, you can still send the contract offer later.
The home team started attacking right from the kick-off and took the lead when Barton's cross was tapped in by Cox. But 4 minutes later, the away team equalised after a great counter attack that was finished by Burns from a great through pass from Richards. The away team managed to hold as the home team couldn't break down Cheltenham's defence.
A man of the match performance by Deane Smalley saw him grab an assist for Reid's header and add a goal after an amazing run. Reuben Reid was also in great form as his brace guided the away team to a comprehensive win over a disappointing Morecambe side.
A very intense game with only a few chances created combined. And Deane Smalley continued his great form as he grabbed the winner with a very scrappy goal.
Monthly report
My first month was a good one and my very young backline, most likely the youngest in the league, managed to keep a cleansheet against the league leaders. After a change in formation, Deane Smalley was given a chance at the right wing in a 4-2-4 formation. And he did very well as he bagged 2 goals and an assist in 3 games.
League Table

1. Portsmouth 15 32
2. Southend 15 32
3. Shrewsbury 15 31
4. Plymouth 15 26

That's a good beginning with a new team. I'm looking forward to seeing how you do with them.

Talking Points
Successful season — We've had a lovely campaign this year! A points total of 71 is a considerable improvement from last year, while we have a strong showing offensively with 19 wins out of 38. We compete next season in the Europa League, which was the goal I set to the board when trying to get more funds in the summer. We also have a cup final to prepare for, which is going to be a high point for many of the players in our team. On we go!
Goals scored & conceded — We scored just 52 goals, the lowest of any of the top six teams and the only one below the 60 mark. Juventus of course topped the scoring charts with 67 goals. However, we conceded just 31 in 38 games! Milan match that record, and only Juventus let in fewer (28).
Five losses — After last season where we threw away 2-0 and 3-0 leads for fun, it was great to see us be defensively robust. That helped us record a great tally of just five losses in 38 games. That those losses came against teams like Roma, Palermo (2), Fiorentina and Udinese who all fought for the win is a small solace. We will improve, especially against Roma and Palermo.
Goals & assists — Seydou Doumbia topped the goal chart with Mauro Icardi, both strikers scoring 18 times in the league. Carlos Tévez recorded a grand 13 assists for Juventus as Paul Pogba top-scored for them with 16. Matteo Mancosu was our top scorer with 10 league goals, signifying a less prolific season for the team as well as less reliance on one superstar, both good.
Clean sheets — Fehmi Mert Günok wins the Golden Glove award for keeping 13 clean sheets in 38 appearances, a better than 1-in-3 record. No doubt we will be receiving a lot of bids for him this summer, though with his total lack of growth it may be something to consider if the money is very good.
Stories of the Season
Udinese — After spending most of the season in the relegation spots, they rallied to win 7 of their last 10 games and pick up a lower mid-table finish. I never understood their poor form, though it could be down to having many older players whose time had come seasons ago. They ought to do better.
Roma — How can someone go the bulk of the season fighting for the title yet fail at the last moment? Roma are the South Africa of Serie A, choking at the death when it really matters. I can't see them winning a title until a number of issues are sorted, chief among them this odd refusal to invest in top full backs. Gervinho also seems past it, so Roma have some work to do.
Emergence of youth — Our own team was a different story. Young players came through from the reserves to the first team with aplomb. Francesco Ferri scored 4 goals and made 2 assists since joining from Milan in January, and Leonardo Suárez showed us that he can operate in a variety of roles with ease. But perhaps the biggest success was Maxence Chapuis making a lengthy series of starts for the first team. With us moving back to four at the back, Chapuis is going to be fighting with Rugani and Melo for a spot at centre back while providing cover for Ikoko at right back and in midfield.
Aberdeen — A lot of the teams that won their leagues this season were the usual names. Chelsea dominated the Premier League, Real Madrid edged La Liga, and Juventus and Bayern regained Serie A and the Bundesliga after stumbling last season. But it was Scotland where the biggest surprise lay, as Abderdeen ended a 32-year duopoly on the title between Rangers and Celtic. Ironically, it was Aberdeen who last won in the 1984-85 season.
Final Table
That was an amazing season! Finishing fourth in your third top-flight season is simply amazing and you've done some great things with the team! It's good to see that Bernardeschi has grown to 80 overall and I'm also glad that you got a good transfer budget. Congratulations on the cup win, as well! I'm very much looking forward to your success in the following seasons.

Portsmouth FC 0 - 0 West Ham United MOTM: Spiegel
West Ham's best chances came just 2 minutes in when Carroll's header soared over the bar, and then they barely threatened the rest of the match. Portsmouth controlled the game from that point forward, but in the end neither side was able to separate themselves on the scoreboard.
Aston Villa FC 1 - 1 Portsmouth FC ASV - Kozak 17'
POR - Çiftçi 48'
MOTM: Pack
Lowton sent a cross in from the right wing and picked out Kozak in the middle who was able to get his head on the ball and flick it on to the far post where it hit off the crossbar and deflected down and in. Çiftçi used his speed to beat the defense down the right wing and cut towards the goal to fire a shot across the goal into the top left corner.
Portsmouth FC 2 - 1 Watford FC POR - Hahn 45', Pack 67' (PEN)
WAT - Teixeira
MOTM: Bentley
Murray sent a corner into the box and Fabrini was able to head it down where Teixeira was waiting to hit it on the half volley into the left side of the goal. McLaughlin played the ball to Hahn on the right wing and he cut it inside to the middle and fired from in front of goal into the bottom left corner. Murray slid through Heymans legs inside of the box and Pack powered the penalty into the top right corner just past the keeper's reach for the deciding goal of the match.
Crystal Palace 0 - 0 Portsmouth FC MOTM: Hennessey
Each team traded chances on goal, but the keepers were up to the challenge. Hennessey was the key factor for Palace recording 7 saves while keeping Portsmouth off of the score sheet to earn a point.
League Play - The month was unbeaten, but too many draws left a lot of points on the board. Chelsea has separated from us now, and the rest are catching up. Still, 2nd place is far more than anyone expected from us going into this season. We are on a great run, the true test is where we finish the season though.
Upcoming Fixtures - Next month will be a big test of where we stand in this league. We will host Chelsea, then visit the Emirates to face Arsenal, and we will also host City and visit Tottenham at the end of the month. It's unlucky to have all of these come up in the same month, and as a newly promoted team they will surely be smelling blood. Our confidence is high right now though so we will be looking to take some points out of this month.
Capital One Cup - No cup games were played this month, but next month will be the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup. We have drawn the most favorable match up remaining and will take on Huddersfield Town. I am debating on whether to stick with the reserve sides or not since the competition is reaching such a defining stage and going out now would be a huge disappointment. Still, this falls in the middle of a tough fixture schedule for us so the reserves may end up being deployed out of necessity.
What a start to the season! It's incredible that you're in a Champions League spot, let alone in second. I think that you'll easily finish in the top four this season. It will be also interesting to see how you do in that cup tie Huddersfield. Also, every time I see Ciftci on the scoresheet I feel happy

What a transfer window! Selling Benzia and Rodriguez will surely prove to be big decision for you. I'm interested in seeing how your starting eleven looks right now because it doesn't look like you signed any major replacements for the two. Mustafi and Saul look like quality Bosmans, though! Also, shame about losing to Lille again but at least you progressed to the knockout stages.

12' Zapata
Morrissey was allowed too easily past our defence before he laid it off to Zapata for the opener. Woods got us back level 6 minutes later. His shot from the edge of the box deflected off, his namesake, Woods and over Barber. There were debuts for Akpom and Boateng off the bench. We really should have won the game.
Shrewsbury 0-0 Colchester
The only notable thing that happened was Akpom getting injured on his first start. Jamie Reid also made his debut. The B Team's 4-3-3 couldn't break down Colchester at all.
Chuba Akpom will miss 5 days with a bruised shoulder.
Shrewsbury 2-1 Crewe Alexandra 21' Gornell 50' Clarke-Harris
74' Atkinson
Gornell netted 20 minutes in off a Compton cross. His first header was straight at Garratt but he was able to head in the rebound. The two men up front combined to unlock the defence for Clarke-Harris' goal 5 minutes into the second half. Atkinson pulled one back, preventing a clean sheet, with some neat play.
Bradford City 0-1 Shrewsbury 59' Grabban
The two youth grads combined for the only goal of the game just before the hour mark. Grabban made a great run around the back of the fullback and Samuel found him with a killer pass. Chuba Akpom played well up front and made chances for himself but he wasn't able to take them today. We also managed a clean sheet which is pleasing.
Elliot Grabban sprained his ankle late on against Bradford so he will be missing for 3 weeks.
Shrewsbury 2-1 Swindon Town 7' (Pen) Gornell 90' Akpom
64' Smith
An early penalty was awarded when Smith tried to control the ball from a corner but Clark nipped in ahead of him and won the spot kick. Gornell stuck it away into the top left. We continued to dominate but couldn't score another and that came back to hurt us when Smith equalized for Swindon. In a big moment however, Akpom came off the bench to score his first Shrewsbury goal. He picked the ball up on the left, near the Swindon area, from a throw in and cut inside using his fresh legs. Byrne got a touch with a sliding challenge but it still remained in Akpom's path and the former Arsenal man shot through a defender's legs, leaving the keeper unsighted and late to react. The roar of the crowd was one of pure emotion and relief. Jordan Clark got his first start of the season on the right and he did extremely well. He earned MOTM, completing 22/31 passes, 25/30 dribbles, 1/2 crosses and all 3 of his tackles. That earned him an 8.5 rating and staked him a claim on a wing slot.
Notts County 0-3 Shrewsbury 28' 51' (Pen) Akpom 45' Samuel
Fresh off his game winning goal in the last outing, Akpom added a brace against Notts County today. For the first he was put through by McAllister and his shot hit the top of a diving Carroll, looped up into the air and bounced over the line. Samuel added a second right before the break, dispossessing the last defender and finishing in off the post. Ginnelly then won a penalty off Hollis and Akpom scored his second.
Anthony Griffith tore his Lateral Collateral Ligament in training and the midfielder is expected to be out of action for 3 months.
Player of the Month
Chuba Akpom
Chuba scored 3 goals this month winning us 6 points including 3 in dramatic fashion against Swindon. He is a threat up front and can play both ways, as a target man or making runs in behind, which worries defenders. He is starting to grow in confidence too which is only a good thing.

I'm not sure if I've replied to this post already but screw it. Overall a good month but those draws at the beginning proved to be costly for your position in the league. At least you're in the top three and I'm sure that you'll get automatic promotion. Good to see that Akpom is doing well and man, what's up with all of those injuries!
In a surprise performance, Portsmouth controlled the entirety of the match and just laid siege to Chelsea's goal. Cortouis wasn't going to let anything past him this day though, and the newly promoted side settled for a point at home against the perennial powerhouse.

Aguirre threaded the ball through to Telfer, and the ball was knocked away but he was able to recover it and then fire it past the keeper into the top left corner. Bunn played the ball to Scannell running across the box unmarked and he turned to shoot right away to beat the keeper on the near post and force extra time. Fatau tackled the ball away from Wells in the box, but he was able to get back to it first and power the ball into the top right corner. Telfer played the ball to Tisserand on the right side of the box and he pushed it towards the goal before using a hesitation to split two defenders and then fire a shot that took a deflection off of Billing's foot and into the goal to force a penalty shootout. In the penalty shootout each of the first 4 shooters for each team put theirs into the back of the net, until Billing stepped to the spot for Huddersfield and made his tough night even worse when he hit his shot off of the crossbar. Tomasevic used a hesitation in his run up to beat the keeper and secure a semi-final berth for Portsmouth.
Arsenal FC 3 - 1 Portsmouth FC ARS - Welbeck 3', Sanchez 70', Walcott 79'
POR - Çiftçi 18'
MOTM: Welbeck
Ramsey played the ball to Welbeck as he ran past Maguire in the middle of the box and he first timed his shot past the keeper inside the right post. Pereira sent Çiftçi through on the right side of the goal and he waited for the keeper to come put before slotting the ball around him on the near post. Walcott sent the corner into the box and Sanchez was able to get his head on to it on the near post and flick it across into the top left corner. Sanchez beat his man down the left wing and sent in a cross picking out Walcott in the middle to repay the favor for a header into the top right corner.
Queens Park Rangers 2 - 2 Portsmouth FC QPR - Austin 43', Caulker 89'
POR - Traore 23' (OG), Çiftçi 48'
MOTM: Austin
Çiftçi cut the ball in from the right wing and fired a shot as Traore jumped into the path of the ball and it deflected back into his own goal. Austin beat 3 defenders to get free in the middle of the box and he slotted the ball into the bottom right corner. Çiftçi attacked to the right side of the box and then cut it back inside to shake the defense and then fire a quick shot inside the near post. Baldock played a ball over the top of the defense from midfield and Caulker got his head on it to loop it over the keeper for the late equalizer.
Portsmouth FC 4 - 2 Sunderland FC POR - Mason 10', Russell 35', 47', 58'
SUN - Soldado 45', Denswil 85'
MOTM: Russell
Mason took the ball away from the defender inside of their own box and pushed the ball left before hitting it back across into the bottom right corner. Heymans sent a cross in from the left wing and picked out Russell running into the center of the box for the header back into the top left corner. Larsson sent a corner into the box and the defense failed to clear it as it fell to Soldado who tucked it away right away to pull one back. Hahn sent a cross in from the left and picked out Russell once again for a looping header into the top left corner. Williams crossed the ball and it went over everyone in the middle and fell to Russell running in on the back power for the powerful strike into the back of the net. Soldado found Denswil running at the left side of the goal and he slotted it past the keeper on the near post.
Portsmouth FC 2 - 0 Manchester City POR - Jamieson IV 69', Russell 90'
MOTM: Williams
Jamieson turned around the defense on the right side and attacked the box to fire a shot across the keeper and into the top left corner. Pereira got the ball running down the right side of the field and threaded the ball around the defense to Russell to go through on the keeper and he slotted it between his legs to double the lead and put the game away.
Tottenham Hotspur 2 - 1 Portsmouth FC TOT - Movsisyan 18', 62'
POR - Russell 60'
MOTM: Movsisyan
Capoue played the ball up the middle for Movsisyan running unmarked into the box and he slotted the ball into the bottom right corner for the opening goal. Pereira sent a cross in off of a free kick and the ball was headed down by the defense where Russell was the first to get to it and knock it into the net for an equalizer. Tottenham answered almost instantly when Smith deflected the ball into Movsisyan's path and he turned around Maguire to fire a shot past the keeper for the deciding goal.
League Play - We came out of a tough month with some our position in the table still looking good. We took advantage of our home field and forced a draw against Chelsea and took all 3 points against City. Arsenal and Tottenham both in London proved to be too much for us though.
Capital One Cup - We sent out the reserves once again since we found the game against Huddersfield fell between the Chelsea and the Arsenal game in league play. Huddersfield took advantage of that and nearly sent us home until Tisserand forced that own goal in the very last minute to send it to penalties. Both teams seemed like they weren't going to miss until the very same player who knocked in the equalizing own goal stepped up and clanked his shot off the crossbar. Tomasevic put his in the back of the net and we barely escaped to the semi-finals to face Aston Villa.
Injuries - Injuries have hit hard this month. All four strikers have gone out, leaving us playing Johnny Russell as an emergency striker, a role that he filled admirably. Luckily, we are getting Çiftçi and Jamieson back in the next couple of weeks and we shouldn't be forced to play many games next month without a true striker. Jonas Heymans also will miss about two months after going down against City. Blair Adams should be ready to step up though, and Tomasevic will likely be called upon to fill in on the left side when Adams needs to rest.
