Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Had my PS3 in for a diagnostic after a save got corrupted yet again. Turned out my hard drive was to blame, so I had to replace that. I managed to hold onto an autosave from after the last game of the 2013-14 season and bring it over to my new HDD, so I can pick up and do the transfer window again. First things first, I sold a load of deadwood and surplus for a collective €10 million or so.

Transfers IN

Rui Patricio - goalkeeper - Sporting CP - €6.5 million
Tomas Kalas - defender - Chelsea - season loan
Inigo Martinez - defender - Real Sociedad - €16 million
Gary Medel - midfielder - Cardiff City - €5.5 million
Mubarak Wakaso - wide midfielder - Rubin Kazan - €6 million
Loic Remy - forward - QPR - €13 million
Anthony Martial - forward - AS Monaco - season loan
Villarreal CF, 2014-15

GK Patricio
RB Kalas
RCB Gabriel
LCB Martinez
LB Wakaso
CDM Bruno
RCM Medel
LCM de Guzman
CF Grosicki
RW dos Santos
LW Remy

Subs: Aitor, Caio, Jokic, Yacob, Aquino, Romero (academy, 17 YO/71 OVR), Martial

Reserves: Juan Carlos, Lejeune, Dorado, Barrios (academy, 16/68), Broerse (academy, 17/71), Moi Gomez, Cani

I'm eight games into the league season with six wins (Malaga, Bilbao, Deportivo, Valencia, Vigo, Sevilla) and two draws (Betis, Levante). I've scored 18 and conceded six. It's not a bad start, but I've got to work on defending once I get the lead.

1. Atletico Madrid, 24 points from 8 games
2. Villarreal, 20 points from 8 games
3. Osasuna, 18 points from 8 games
4. Barcelona, 17 points from 8 games
5. Real Madrid, 15 points from 8 games
6. Real Sociedad, 15 points from 8 games

*****

Thoughts so far on players and tactics:

- Having Patricio in goal has shown me what I was missing last season. He's arguably the difference between barely scraping a draw and thumping my way to a comprehensive 3-1.

- Kalas might be on loan, but he's going to have the RB spot locked down all season barring injury or loss of form. I really want to get him on a permanent basis in the summer. Already has two assists to his name.

- Martinez is one of the best defenders in the game, and makes up for what he lacks in height with an insane vertical leap. He's also a rock, making him the perfect foil to Gabriel, who naturally tends to go forward. Both are massive threats on corners.

- With a lack of affordable full backs, buying a wide midfielder with the right attributes and playing him on the flanks is quite smart. Wakaso has the right combination of pace, stamina, defending and crossing to play successfully at LB.

- Bruno might be on the other side of 30, but the only attributes of his on the decline are curve and agility. I can't see him going anywhere until this summer, if at all. Blasted in the only goal of the game against Malaga after two sublime touches in the box.

- Medel is a defensive midfielder with a ferocious shot, ridiculous stamina, great dribbling and ball control, and a four-star weak foot. Toss him in with custom H/M work rates and he owns the pitch. Scored a ridiculous dipping screamer against Betis to salvage a draw.

- De Guzman was being wasted at Swansea. The kid has scored four and set four up in eight games, which comes out to a goal per game through him. He's also been my best player in terms of dribbling and passing.

- Grosicki was originally on the bench, with Remy at CF and Aquino at LW. Since the change, he has been sterling. With his forward runs, he creates space for de Guzman to drift into and hit long shots from. Bagged a hat-trick in the 3-1 win at Sevilla. Should grab 20+ if he finds his stride.

- Since moving to the wing, Remy has loads more space in which to use his speed. His ball control sometimes lets him down, but his three goals and three assists mean he's settling in well. I expect him to score 12-15 in the league.

- I was thinking of selling/upgrading dos Santos, but I'm glad I stuck with him. As his four goals in eight games show, this 4-3-3 suits him very well. Like Remy, he should bag 12-15 goals this campaign.

Overall, I'm quite happy with the squad. I've got plenty of defenders to rotate in case of injury or fatigue, and my midfielders are versatile enough to slot into several positions. My bench has a couple of impact subs like Aquino and Martial, so I can rely on someone to make a difference when things are stagnant or against us. The only signing I'd like to make in January is a winger or forward on loan, perhaps Serge Gnabry from Arsenal once again. And last but not least are the academy graduates. I want Barrios to make at least ten appearances (start or sub), and 15 for Romero and Broerse.

I've played almost 7 years as GK and gone through countless slider changes and minute changes and truly the best representation you can IMO get is legacy default on 15 minutes. You can get more shots if you turn the marking down but it's not the type of shots that are really saveable. There's counters to every change you make but you'll end up tinkering forever if you start messing with it.

I won't lie , I haven't followed every vid since I view on my phone, so I've missed some episodes but I like the commentary. Id like to see you put in some more great defensive stops, or even 1v1 moves even if it doesn't pan out to a goal.

Either way, good job.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Definitely will incorporate some of your suggestions eF 5ive, and ADHAMM3R Martial is definitely a big target of mine because of his potential. I'm thinking for this window not sure about bringing him in, but the strikers I bring in will basically have those months to impress me and if not then Martial will be one of my top targets in the summer.

Will have the next episode out soon.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Started a manager career with Sunderland. Did some major changes to the team as one of my policies is: if a team pays for one of my players more than he values, I have to sell him (even if it's the team's star or an important player or a good prospect, doesn't matter). With this, I had to sell some key players, but I made sure to make good use of the money.
Out: Ignacio Scocco – 4,2 Mi to Catania
Carlos Cuellar – 850.000 to Aston Villa
Adam Johnson – 6 MI to Fulham
Phil Bardsley + 12.5 MI for Gaston Ramirez to Southampton
Steven Fletcher – 7,5 MI to Aston Villa
Wes Brown – 975.000 to West Brom

In: Gastσn Ramirez – 12.5 MI + Phil Bardsley from Southampton
Andros Townsend – 3.1 MI from Tottenham
David N’Gog – 1.9 MI from Swansea
Luke Shaw – 8.5 MI from Southampton
Nicklas Bendtner – 4.5 MI from Arsenal

Ramirez and Townsend were in my plans since the beginning. N'Gog was bought to be my backup striker and give Altidore/Fletcher some rest, but after I sold Fletcher I had to buy another starter and saw the perfect oportunity in Bendtner, who I'm gladly discovering as a beast in this game.
At last but not least, Shaw is a good and young left back as I needed to change my formation to 4-4-2 when Wes Brown was sold (I begun with 3-5-2)

The first season transfer window just closed and now my team is looking like this:
Ustari
Gardner-O'Shea-Roberge-Shaw
Cattermole
Townsend-Giaccherini
Ramirez
Bendtner-Altidore

and I really think I can exceed the board expectatives of just avoiding relegation

I like to play in MLS but I feel like there is so much more in other countries. I did a CM with AC Milan and had fun for a little but its not really challenging, any help? But since I live in the U.S., I prefer to play in the MLS.

So my final question for CM freaks like me, is there a MLS team that meets my requirements, if not, can you list other clubs that do meet requirements of mine?

Also, I play professional-6 minutes and it seems fine to play with for me on Xbox 360.

I will continue to update the forum once i've selected a team with some help from my fellow CM-ers!
I play MLS, but i move them into Chile and drop Chivas.... I then put best Chile teams in Columbia, only about 5 chile teams, rest of the 18 go n mls with columbian teams who were replaced...

this allows MLS to play in South American champions league.

to answer your question tho, I would say Houston based on where your from, they have decent budget, need work, could sell bruin and davis.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

My career has been going fine. I finished in 6th with Liverpool my first time around. I am in 2nd right now. Doing well in the Euro League too. Into the semi-finals. I wasted my financial takeover on a different campaign. It will be a while before I get to level 39 for the next one. I am at level 33.

Is anyone willing to gift me a financial takeover? I am a PS4 user. LiverpoolDCVCU is my user name. I will make it worth your while by gifting you anything I have access to. Thanks.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

So after narrowing down about 10 teams I decided to go with Real Sociedad

Playing world class, 6min halves, no first transfer window

I don't really follow the bbva so I came into the squad expecting to do a complete overhaul but was surprised to find the perfect balance of old and young players I was looking for.
I went through each player to see the depth I have in each role to find I have cover for every position. I then set up a youth academy in Portugal

I won all 3 of my friendlies the most notable was 4-0 thrashing of west ham and went into my my first game against grafe which I won 2-0 but at the cost of my CM picking up a broken foot and is out for 4 months and my CB out for 2 weeks

Will post with an update tomorrow
