Re: NHL 13 Ratings Revamped

The only thing I am worried about with the new "lowered" ratings is whether or not it will affect the sim stats.....let face it, last year the sim stats were very well done and I don't think too many people could complain. If you really start spreading the ratings out even more you might have a tough time replicating some good sim stats.

Since the ratings for each team were released several weeks ago I have been going through them and adjusting a little according to my opinion. I can send it to you if you want to use it. Keep in mind I may have to adjust more based on other factors that we do not know yet(free agent ratings....AHL ratings, CHL and Euro league ratings, etc...)

But, if you want my help to do more in depth ratings for a certain team I am willing to help if you want. Let me know.

Re: NHL 13 Ratings Revamped

Hey everyone! A quick update on where we are right now....

Puckhead73 and I, along with several others, have re-adjusted the overalls for every player in the league. This includes all NHL players, and all minor league players affilliated with NHL teams. We have a Google Docs spreadsheet with all of the players overalls. We also have a ton of information about each player on the document.

We used sources like The Hockey News, Hockey's Future, and Elite Prospects to get a better understanding of players' individual strengths and weaknesses, as well as their potential. We are using Capgeek for all of the players' contracts. Along with this, to get players' overalls, we used a combination of my ratings, Puckhead73's ratings, and all of the other individual's ratings.

Puckhead73 got the season ticket version of the game and he has been working on adjusting all of the players. I am getting the game tomorrow and I will help him adjust the players ratings. As soon as we are done, we will be releasing the product to the public. Be patient, as this process takes a decent amount of time because we have to create a lot of the prospects (especially those who are still in the NCAA). Also, we have to edit all of the free agents and CHL players as well.

Re: NHL 13 Ratings Revamped

Thanks a lot for doing this stuff guys! It makes the game so much better and also makes the players play out to their specific attributes. Just like you guys I absolutely hate the overall number. It's useless. Players are better at certain attributes than one another. No player is the same and that's what this game should feel like. I was so annoyed when the overalls of each player came out and people start freaking over this guys overall being higher than another and this and that. People just don't realize that an overall is just an overall and what matters is the specific attributes.

Totally wish they would move to a system like The Show. At first I was like why the hell is this guy rated so low, but then you look at the player and see that a guy like Adam Dunn has a huge power rating but his contact is low because he strikes out a lot. This is how he plays in real life and that's why The Show is so good. Each player plays how they would in real life. Getting that in an NHL game is huge because in the NHL player separation is so large when comparing a 1st liner to a 3rd or 4th liner.

But anyway thanks for doing this stuff. I remember I used these rosters for 360 back in NHL 11 and they were very good. Any rosters that can help make each player separate themselves from one another is great to me. Thanks!

Hey everyone!

Thanks for all of the offers to assist, at this point in time, not to toot our own horn and what not, but what Simple Math and I have accomplished in the last couple weeks is quite surprising to me. I figured i would take this opportunity to give a brief overview of our process and how we determine the ratings we give each player. To start, we have compiled a spreadsheet that contains not only the depth chart of every team in the league, but attached to each player our estimated placement of a player as far as their value in The league as a whole, represented by our OVR rating. This rating is not based on the players placement in the depth chart, but rather where that player's skill set fits in relation to the remainder of the league. This rating is not an arbitrary number we assigned though, as along with this rating we went through and compiled and attached a bio to each and every player, down to lowly CHL prospects. This Bio contains information off the players pages on Thehockeynews.com, eliteprospects.com, and hockeysfuture.com. We then review the bio, the players stats, and players of a similar caliber to determine their actual value. We then use the bios to make sure we reflect their actual skill set. Also, we have a subscription to The Hockey News, which provides us additional information when needed. On top of this, the spreadsheet contains every transaction that has taken place in the league since June 1st, 2012.

We are fully dedicated to bringing to you the best and most accurate roster that we can, in accordance with the philosophy that we have, which ultimately comes down to the fact that while better this year, there is still not enough separation in between players. We originally started out trying to have an editor for each team, some one who is familiar with the team, and would be able to remain unbiased, but as we have progressed through this process, it has dropped down to Simple and I. Most people have this thing called school or something.

Also, I will go ahead and give a small disclaimer here: THESE ROSTERS ARE NOT FOR THE HOMERS. If you are not able to look at your roster objectively and are unable to look past the overall, you might not necessarily agree with the ratings assigned. I would give an example, but I am not able to think of one off the top of my head.

Finally, we are also excited to announce that we will be doing a slider set tuned towards this specific roster once we finish in the coming weeks. I am pleased to let you all know that through the games I have tested so far, I have seen a large disparity between the different players, to point that you know when someone like David Backes, Ryan Getzlaf or Zdeno Chara is on the ice. And you also know when you are simply outclassed by the line you have out. Line changes mean something beyond simply giving your players a rest now, as you need to be smart about who is on the ice.

Anyways I am very excited about the project, and can't wait to share it with all of you!

Re: NHL 13 Ratings Revamped

This will actually be for PS3, I have been unable to find someone to compile it for 360.
