Re: NHL 12 "Be A GM" Mode Discussion Thread

Couple other things I've noticed:

1. When you go to the contracts screen and go to your "in the system" list they have little icons so you can see if the player is in the AHL, CHL or....I'm not sure what the 3rd icon is suppose to be...looks like a backwards 3 with a red x on it....guess it means that player is not in a league? Playing in Europe? Whatever it means, it's for unsigned players.

One glitch I notices with this is I went and signed about 5 of my "in the system" players and they put them on my roster so I was over the 23 player limit for about a week...it wasn't until I had an injury and had to call up a d-man that the CPU recognized I was over the roster limit.

2. First game against Calgary and who is on their PK unit? That's right folks....IVANIS!!!! Why can't they fix it so goons aren't on the PK??!!

Problem is there is nothing we can do about except hope for a patch...the injury slider is just for in-game injuries. Maybe I'll change my opinion after I've completed a couple of seasons...normally only a handful of players will play all 82 games for a team. I guess I like it better than having 16 players playing all 82 games per team.
I would agree that they needed to ramp this up from previous years, but I have to say they way over did it. It's not realistic for the amount of injuries when simming. I mean, I understand having a few injuries every 15-25 games, that's realistic. No NHL team sustains an injury every 4 games, and if they do, they are at lost majority of the time Day-to-Day's, not injuries lasting a quarter or half of the season.

This is disappointing to hear. I talked Gurn about this at NHL11 community day in hopes they could fix it for '12. I think it looks at primarily checking & aggressiveness when choosing PKers. I suggested using a weighted scale for:

1. Defensive awareness (the most heavily weighted factor for FWD & DEF)
2. Speed (FWD) and Body/Stick Checking (DEF)
3. Body/Stick Checking (FWD) and Shot Blocking (FWD & DEF)

I guess it didn't happen.

Hopefully this is something they can adjust without a patch via the new game mode tuning feature. I assume stuff like this is the reason they added it.

Re: NHL 12 "Be A GM" Mode Discussion Thread

For injuries, the solution I went with was when I'm simming large parts of seasons, I turn injuries on for 1 week, and off for 3 week of each month. That gives pretty realistic injuries..

My theory of what's 'broken' about it is that there are no season ending injuries, nothing more than 12 weeks.. so while in real hockey, a guy might miss a whole year, accounting for 70+ games missed, in the game, it needs to injure 5 guys for 15 games to equal a realistic games missed number.

So 2 out for season type injuries actually equal 10 guys missing 15 games... which isn't realistic at all.

Also, you'll notice that almost all the injuries during sim appear to be shot blocking related, most are broken bones in the lower body. There could be an issue with the sim engine.

these are great suggestions and real coaches i believe uses these qualities for PK'rs. HOPEFULLY EA WILL PUT YOUR SUGGESTION into action. I guess, when you talked to EA it was already late to have these in their system. only hope is that they can add this to their patch or tuner.

Re: NHL 12 "Be A GM" Mode Discussion Thread

I haven't played NHL in a few years but am strongly considering buying this game. I have two questions about GM mode:

1) Is there any expansion draft option? Either
a) A total redraft of rosters OR
b) the ability to start an expansion franchise and draft unprotected players from existing rosters

AND
2) Can I relocate a team(s) (i.e. move the Phoenix franchise to Hartford for example)?

Thanks!

1.
a) You can do a fantasy draft
b) No.

2. No. But you can create a team, give them an existing teams roster, and import that team at the start of your BeaGM. Though I'm not sure how this effect players rights in CHL/Europe.

I did a fantasy draft anyway. Always fun to see what I can end up with. Plus you don't have to worry about "realistic rosters" and all that.
