Re: TNK - NHL15 SLIDERS (15 minute / All Star)

TNK - BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #6 of The Season - Boston Bruins (4-1-0) @ Montreal Canadiens (2-2-0)

The Bruins travel north of the border for a big early season rivalry game with the Canadiens in Montreal. The Canadiens made the decision to go with Dustin Tokarski in goal against Boston and give Carey price the night off. The Bruins wasted no time in taking advantage of that decision as Loui Eriksson beat Tokarski just 2:41 in to the game to give Boston a 1-0 lead. The score would remain 1-0 through the end of two periods as both Tokarski and Rask were solid in their nets. The Bruins would go on the powerplay early in the 3rd period but it would be the Canadiens who score as the Bruins got caught in a bad line change and Tomas Plekanec fed a beautiful pass to Manny Malhotra snuck the puck past Rask to tie the game at 1-1 with 17:11 left to play. Reilly Smith would be called for a slash less than a minute later to put the Canadiens on the powerplay with a chance to take the lead. The Bruins would kill off the man advantage and the score would remain 1-1 as the game moved under 10:00 to play. Zdeno Chara was called for elbowing with 6:52 remaining to put Montreal on the powerplay again with a chance to break the tie but Boston would kill it off before Patrice Bergeron was called for interference with 4:17 remaining to put the Canadiens right back on the powerplay. The Bruins were reeling and Claude Julien was forced to call his timeout to rest his penalty killers and try to get the Bruins to focus with the game hanging in the balance. The Boston penalty kill stepped up again and killed off another Montreal powerplay as we approached 2:00 to play. Tokarski made a huge stop on Lucic with 0:20 remaining and froze the puck resulting in a faceoff in the Montreal zone but nothing would come of it and the game would head to overtime tied 1-1. Both teams had a couple chances in OT but Rask and Tokarski made the saves and this game would be settled in a shootout. PA Parenteau scored the only goal of the shootout in the bottom half of the 3rd round to give the Canadiens the thrilling victory.

* Tuukka Rask stopped 31 of 32 shots in a tremendous effort by the Boston net minder as he made many point blank stops in the game

* Dustin Tokarski gave up a goal on Boston's 2nd shot of the game but bounced back to stop the next 35 shots he faced in a great performance in place of Carey Price.

* The Bruins will travel to Buffalo to wrap up this 3 game road trip and will get a boost from the return of Brad Marchand who was injured on opening night. Marchand will take his place on the 2nd line with Bergeron & Smith while Ryan Spooner will return to Providence of the AHL

Game #7 of The Season - Boston Bruins (4-1-1) @ Bufalo Sabres (1-3-1)

* The Bruins controlled play pretty much the entire game despite a sloppy 2nd period and get an empty netter late to seal a 5-3 victory.

* The Bruins go 2-0-1 on their 3 game road trip to improve to 5-1-1 on the season and will return home for their next game for an early season showdown with the undefeated San Jose Sharks who are 6-0-0 on the season.

Re: TNK - NHL15 SLIDERS (15 minute / All Star)

TNK - BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #8 of The Season - San Jose Sharks (6-0-0) @ Boston Bruins (5-1-1)

The Bruins welcome the undefeated Sharks to town for an early season showdown as both the Bruins and Sharks currently have the best record in their respective conferences. The Bruins carried the play throughout the 1st period but there was no scoring until late in the period when Patrice Bergeron took a pass from Marchand, got to the outside of the defender and sniped top corner over the blocker of Alex Stalock to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. The 1st period would come to an end with Boston leading 1-0 and out shooting San Jose by a 12-6 margin. San Jose came out with much better energy to begin the 2nd period and began to take the play to the Bruins but Tuukka Rask was sharp in the Boston net keeping the score 1-0. The Sharks would tie the game with 7:58 left in the 2nd period when Matt Irwin ripped a slap shot from the point that was tipped by Raffi Torres past Rask for the deflection goal to knot things up at 1-1. Gregory Campbell was called for slashing in the final minute of the 2nd period and the period would come to an end with the score tied 1-1 setting the stage for what should be a great 3rd period. The Sharks would begin the 3rd period on the man advantage and Tuukka Rask would put the puck over the glass on a clearing attempt to give San Jose a 5 on 3 powerplay for 1:12 with a huge opportunity to take the lead. The Bruins killed off the 5 on 3 but with the Sharks still on a 5 on 4 powerplay Patrick Marleau fed Joe Pavelski whose shot was stopped by Rask with a nice pad save but the rebound would bounce off the leg of Zdeno Chara and in to the net to give San Jose a 2-1 lead with 17:54 remaining as Pavelski was credited with the PP goal. The Sharks made it 3 unanswered goals on a great individual effort by Tomas Hertl off the cycle down low as he fought through a check behind the net and tucked home a wrap around attempt by Rask to give the Sharks a 3-1 lead with 8:49 to play. Patrick Marleau made it 4-1 with an insurance goal with 2:36 remaining but Boston would answer a minute later as Patrice Bergeron beat Stalock with a wrist shot for his 2nd tally of the game to make it 4-2 with 1:37 left to play. The Sharks would score one more time on a Tommy Wingels goal as the Sharks completely dominated the 3rd period scoring 4 goals on their way to a convincing 5-2 victory in Boston.

* The Sharks and Bruins were locked in a 1-1 tie entering the 3rd period before San Jose completely took the game over scoring 4 3rd period goals to beat the Bruins 5-2 and improve their record to a league best 7-0-0 on the season.

* The Bruins absolutely collapsed in the 3rd period to drop their record to 5-2-1 on the season. Claude Julien was not pleased with his teams performance in the 3rd period as they hung Tuukka Rask out to dry and wasted a solid effort from the first two periods.

* Kevan Miller has been the healthy scratch on defense for the past five games and will return to the lineup for the Bruins next game and take the place of Matt Bartkowski on the blue line as Bartkowski will be the healthy scratch.

* Patrice Bergeron had a strong game for Boston as he notched a pair of goals to give him 4 goals on the season

* Alex Stalock was the star of the game as he got the start in net for San Jose in place of Antti Niemi and stopped 32 of 34 shots

* The Bruins will host the New York Islanders (2-2-2) in their next game as Boston looks to bounce back with a strong effort after this disappointing loss. The Islanders signed free agent Daniel Alfredsson today and Alfredsson is expected to make his Islanders debut against the Bruins.

Re: TNK - NHL15 SLIDERS (15 minute / All Star)

TNK - BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #9 of The Season - New York Islanders (2-2-2) @ Boston Bruins (5-2-1)

The Bruins had a commanding 3-0 lead early in the 2nd period before the Islanders chipped away to cut the lead to 3-2 entering the 3rd period. New York came out buzzing with two goals in the opening 5 minutes of the 3rd period to make it 4 unanswered goals giving the Islanders a 4-3 lead. Boston would answer back as Dennis Seidenberg beat Johnson with slap shot to tie the game at 4-4 with 10:18 remaining. The Bruins had the momentum and made it 3 unanswered goals as Seth Griffith and Carl Soderberg each scored just over a minute apart to suddenly give Boston a 6-4 lead with 7:25 left to play and that would be the final score as the Bruins win a wild back and forth game.

* This game featured a battle of the backup goalies as the Islanders went with Chad Johnson who was the backup to Rask last season in Boston and the Bruins gave Rask a night off with Niklas Svedberg getting the start in goal. Both Johnson and Svedberg showed why they are backups right now as neither of them played particularly well.

* Seth Griffith, Carl Soderberg and Milan Lucic all had a goal and an assist to lead the Boston attack.

* Brad Marchand was laid out by Travis Hamonic in the final minutes and left the game with an injury. Marchand has had some bad luck so far this season as he has only skated in 4 of Bostons 9 games on the season. Marchands injury is pending evaluation and he will be out for the next game.

* Matt Fraser will return to the lineup after being the healthy scratch since returning from his injury on opening night. Simon Gagne will bump up to the 2nd line in place of Marchand while Fraser will skate on the 4th line.

* The Bruins improve to 6-2-1 on the season and will travel to Toronto for their next game for a big divisional rivalry match up with the Maple Leafs who are off to a good start to the season with a record of 5-3-0.

Re: TNK - NHL15 SLIDERS (15 minute / All Star)

TNK - BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #10 of The Season - Boston Bruins (6-2-1) @ Toronto Maple Leafs (5-3-0)

The Bruins and Leafs are both enjoying good starts to the season and square off in Toronto for an early season match up between two of the top teams in the Atlantic Division. Toronto got on the board first just 3:27 in to the game on a goal from Daniel Winnik to give the Leafs a quick 1-0 lead. Boston got the goal right back a few minutes later though as they were on the powerplay with Clarkson in the box for slashing and after some great movement on the man advantage, David Krejci redirected a shot from Hamilton past Bernier for the goal the was initially waved off by the referee. The play was reviewed for a potential high stick but the video showed that Krejci had his stick below the cross bar and the goal would be allowed as the Bruins tied the game up at 1-1. The Leafs came right back and this time Winnik setup David Booth on a 2-on-1 for the easy goal as the Bruins defensive play has been awful early on with Tuukka Rask being hung out to dry and the Maple Leafs had a 2-1 lead with 11:48 left in the 1st period. Both teams seemed to settle down a bit after the frantic start to the game and start playing with some structure to their games as the first period would come to an end with Toronto leading 2-1. The 2nd period was a very physical and entertaining period of hockey that saw Brad Marchand for Boston and James Van Reimsdyk for Toronto leave the game with injuries. The score remained 2-1 until the Maple Leafs went on the powerplay with about 1:30 remaining in the 2nd period. Toronto had a chance to extend their lead and the Leafs cashed in when Phaneuf sent the puck down low to Kessel who slid a cross crease pas to David Clarkson at the far post for the easy tap in powerplay goal at the 19:10 mark to give Toronto a 3-1 lead after two periods. The Bruins would need to come up with a big 3rd period if they want to come away with at least a point as they were out-shooting Toronto 29-23 but trailed 3-1 to start the 3rd period. The Bruins came out with good energy in the 3rd as they were peppering Bernier early a flurry of shots and had several quality chances but couldn't get one past him and the score remained 3-1. Tuukka Rask stopped a pair of breakaways midway through the period as the Bruins were pressing so hard in the offensive end that they were abandoning their defensive structure. The score remained 3-1 until Boston had the puck down low on the cycle and Patrice Bergeron was able to get the puck to Simon Gagne in the slot and Gagne fired a wrist shot top corner for a beautiful goal to pull the Bruins within a goal at 3-2 with 9:08 to play setting the stage for an entertaining finish to the game. The Bruins would go on the powerplay with 8:14 remaining when Robidas was called for interference giving the Bruins a chance to tie the game. The Bruins did a good job of moving the puck and creating chances on the powerplay but Bernier was up to the task and Toronto was able to kill off the penalty and protect their 3-2 lead as we approached 6:00 to play. The Bruins pulled Rask in the final minute for the extra attacker and had a chance with an offensive zone draw to the left of Bernier with 0:23 left to play but they couldn't win the draw and Toronto iced the game on an empty net goal from Winnik to give the Maple Leafs a hard fought 4-2 win.

* The Bruins lose 4-2 to the Maple Leafs in a tough Atlantic Division battle. Boston actually controlled the play pretty well and fired 49 shots on the Toronto net but they couldn't finish their chances and only managed 2 goals.

* Tuukka Rask played very well but was hung out to dry by his defense in this game as defensive breakdowns led to many point blank chances for Toronto and Rask was the only reason Boston was in the game and not getting blown out.

* Jonathan Bernier was the star of the game as he stopped 47 of 49 Boston shots in a tremendous effort in the Toronto net.

* Daniel Winnik had 2 goals & 1 assist while Mike Santorelli recorded 3 assists to lead the Maple Leafs attack

* Boston was bitten by the injury bug in this game as they lost both Reilly Smith and Kevan Miller to injuries in the game. Afterwards it was revealed that Tory Krug and Chris Kelly were also banged up in the loss and all four players were pending evaluation. Right now the Bruins injury report looks like this:
BOSTON BRUINS
PosPlayerInjury Note
DKevan MillerReturning November 7th (Concussion)
CChris KellyReturning October 31st (Injured Hand)
LWBrad MarchandReturning November 7th (Wrist Sprain)
DTorey KrugReturning November 1st (Injured Groin)
RWReilly SmithReturning November 2nd (Pulled Groin)

* Boston will be calling up forwards Ryan Spooner & Justin Florek along with defenseman Zach Trotman from Providence of the AHL as the Bruins organizational depth will be tested and they will try to get by without some key members of their team for a couple weeks.

* James Van Reimsdyk was injured for Toronto and left the game in the 1st period and will miss a week or two

* The Bruins will face the 4-3-0 Minnesota Wild in Boston for their next game. The Bruins roster has been decimated by a rash of recent injuries and they will go with this lineup against the Wild
