Artist: Boot Camp Clik
Album: Casualties of War
Producers: Coptic; Chris the Four; Dan the Man; Dub Z; Fred Bear; Marco Polo; Marvel; Moods & Vibrations; Soul G; 9th Wonder
Release Date: August 14, 2007

None of the production is groundbreaking but it gets the job done consistently and you can't really ask for more. Even some of the songs that aren't very good like "Bubblin' Up" have potential to be great by production standards but strike a stroke below par lyrically. A lot of the tracks lack emotion which is not a trait of Boot Camp Clik and without it, they fail at being their best.

Still, the album doesn't disappoint and a few of the tracks are catchy and again, the beats are solid, from Dan the Man's sample of EPMD, 9th Wonder's "I Need More" and "Yesterday" produced by Dub Z who did the song "I Love You" off Sean Price's Monkey Barz in 2005 (a great song within itself). The album is like a poor man's "The Last Stand" but you can't complain with that kind of work. However, you still know the BCC can do Album of the Year worthy type stuff considering "The Last Stand" was 2006's runner up for Album of the Year.
  • Grade:
    • 89% (B+)
  • Song to Download:
    • "Yesterday"
    • Produced by:
      • Dub Z

Nominations After Release:
Group of the Year: Boot Camp Clik

Wow, I forgot I asked about that too, good looking out. I actually found the album (assuming you're talking about "The Scope Of Things To Come") a little while back. Good stuff.

Well...in that case I agree with you. EAC and group rips are pretty much the same exact quality. Also, the difference between 192 and group rips isn't all that big either. I hate anything lower then 192 though....sounds like crap in my car.

Artist: Big Shug
Album: Street Champ
Producers: DJ Premier; Kid Carnage; MoSS
Release Date: July 13, 2007

Never seen anything like it, and I'm pretty sure it's the first of its kind, but Big Shug's "Street Champ" starts out with a bland intro and two ugly tracks ("Hood With That" is unbearable), and finishes off with 14 out of 15 ear-pleasers. After track three I was convinced that this album wasn't going to offer me too much and most of it would be deleted by the end of the night. Low and behold, I continued listening and found one of my favorite LP's ever made.

Big Shug's rap voice (even r&b voice) is nice to listen to and it goes tight with Gangstarr Foundation beats, meaning Primo and MoSS. His lyrics aren't overly impressive but a lackluster message can be repaired by vocal flair and syllable sweeping, just ask Skyzoo. You'll find a couple tracks that will compete for heavy rotation in your playlist when you are in "relaxed" or "stfu world!" mode. "Lost" and "Legbreakers" ft. Big Twins & Sean Price are good for those scenarios respectively.

MoSS is a rising star producer, and I'm sure you will remember his banger from Ghostface's "Fishscale" called "Kilo". Don't forget Primo contributes to three tracks. I'm telling you all... get this album, now!
