Oh yeah? I don't guess he played for him in '04 or '05 did he? It was a circus at Springdale those two years. Then "the book" came out the next year chronicling their 2005 season, while Mustain, Gus, Damien Williams, Ben Cleveland, and the other receiver (name slips my mind right now) were playing for the U of A, and all hell broke lose. From about the spring of 2006 through late winter 2007 the Arkansas football program was one huge soap opera.

Re: The Coaching Legacy of Gus Malzahn: Vandy's Rise to Greatness

Vanderbilt Defense Dominant in 38-10 Win

Nashville, TN -- This rivalry game went up several notches as soon as Gus Malzahn was hired as Vanderbilt's head coach. In 2006 Malzahn was hired as Arkansas' offensive coordinator under head coach Houston Nutt. Since then, Nutt has been fired from Arkansas, immediately hired as Ole Miss' head coach, and Malzahn made stops at Tulsa and Auburn as an offensive coordinator. It looked like the relationship between Nutt and Malzahn was going to be a good one after Arkansas went 10-2 in their first year together. However, a massive fallout ending in a messy divorce developed a split in the Arkansas fanbase, and inadvertently created a rival between the two that was begun this Saturday in Nashville.

Trey Wilson intercepts an Ole Miss pass in the first quarter

In the first meeting between teacher and student, the student got the better of his teacher in an impressive manner. For the second straight week, Vanderbilt's defense was the story, as they held Ole Miss to just 10 points and 242 yards of offense, 77 of which came on a 77 yard touchdown run by Rodney Scott in the fourth quarter in garbage time.

Warren Norman runs through a huge hold for a touchdown

Gus Malzahn
"Look, I know people want to believe there's this deep seeded hate between Coach Nutt and I, but that's simply not true. We didn't see eye to eye when we were both at Arkansas, but since then we've mended our relationship and get along fine. This was just another win for us."

He graduated the year before Mustain and Williams. Cody Varner, played DB. Got some scholly offers but didn't have the grades to play.

Commodores Win a Nailbiter Over Bulldogs

Jonathan Krause making one of his two touchdown catches

Nasvhille, TN -- It appears one of Vanderbilt's most talented teams in a long time is turning a corner under first year head coach Gus Malzahn. Despite trailing most of the game Saturday, the Commodores found a way to get it done in the end, and escaped with a narrow 30-27 victory. The win pushes Vanderbilt's win streak to three in a row, all three coming against quality opponents: Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, and Georgia. All three coming at home.
