Re: Never Give Up:The Story of James Parker

James Parker is an interesting prospect. He doesn't have that prototypical size, he is 6'3 and only 212 pounds. He has a great arm and he is a threat in the running game. No one is doubting this kid's skills, they are just doubting his character. He got kicked out of LSU for off the field issues and a lot of people are questioning his mentality and his ability to handle the pressure of being an NFL quarterback. He did a phenomenal job in the Wonderlic, scoring a class high 30. Don't let his GPA from LSU fool you, he is smart but is he responsible?

When it comes to measurable and pure raw talent, there is not a single quarter back better than James Parker. He posted an 4.37 in his 40 yard dash, some backs aren't that fast. He has an amazing arm strength, and has a good deep ball accuracy. He gets most of his yards on play action and bootlegs, where he can choose whether to scramble, throw the check down or go for the deep bomb. His awareness is a weakness. He didn't face much challenge with LTU and will have to take on a lot more different defensive looks and schemes. He is coming from a spread oriented offense and needs to work on his footwork and drop back. He should be taken somewhere in the third round as a project QB.

The road to Indianapolis was nerve racking. I decided to go alone. Leticia and my dad wanted to come but I said it would be best if I went alone. I had let them down too many times and letting them down with a poor combine would be too much for them. Being from Louisiana Tech didn't help either. Many scouts say that I have talent but not the brains. I want to prove them wrong. I had a great combine, so they say. I felt really confident but I always wonder what would of happened if I didn't screw up and stay at LSU..

Announcer: With the 100th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders draft quarterback James Parker from Louisiana Tech.

September 8, 2010

I was drafted to compete with Jason Campbell for the starting job. I loved Oakland, mainly because it gave me the chance to spend more time with Leticia and Jane. They came to all of my pre-season games, but I sucked. I threw for 402 yards but 2 picks. Me and Al Davis didn't get off to a good start. He didn't like me, mainly because well, I reminded him of J-Russ. Coach Cable says that I am his Day 1 starter but that if I slack even a bit, I am out of here. Life became harder as I tried to handle the amount of money that was being handed to me. I was still fighting over my drug addiction.
