Troy, AL - For the first time under Coach Powell, the Troy Trojans are 1-0 to start a season. Going away from the usual road game to start out the year, Troy hosted a mid-major to kick off the season as Marshall came to town.
The senior laden Troy offense drove down the field on their opening drive and capped it with an 8-yard touchdown toss to Jim Teknipp by Corey Robinson. After a Marshall punt, Troy took over looking to seize control of the game early. But the interception bug bit Corey Robinson yet again and the Herd kept Troy out of the end zone and kept the game in reach.
On the very next play, Nash Nance found Tommy Shuler behind the defense and 86 yards later Marshall was on the board. The teams would sawp touchdowns before Troy took advantage of a short field right before halftime. Brian Exley, in his first year as a starter, rumbled down inside the Marshall 10-yard line and eventually got into the end zone on 3rd and goal to give Troy a 28-14 halftime lead.
Marshall would get as close as 4 in the second half Justin Haig knocked home a 30-yard field goal with 4:00 left in the 3rd quarter. Troy responded immediately and without their starting running back as Exley had to leave the game early on in the quarter with back spasms. Freshman Willie Brooks seized his chance and scored twice on the day with his big run being an 80-yard touchdown as the clock hit triple zero's in the 3rd quarter giving Troy a 42-27 lead.
The Herd would score a late touchdown to make it a one possession ballgame with 1:14 left but failed to recover the onsides kick. With the loss, Marshall falls to 0-2 on the season.

Hmm, I'll look into it tonight. Probably do pictures but not videos. This thread already loads slow enough for me. Videos would make it lag so badly.
Tallahassee, FL - Every so often, a mid-major gets the biggest win in their program's history. Sometimes, it's merely a win at home over a ranked opponent. Once every few years, it's a mid-major going on the road and taking out a perennial power who may be having a down year. But once in a blue moon, it's a mid-major knocking off a national title contender.
Troy knew what had to happen to pull off the upset of the 2010's. Clint Trickett would have to throw several interceptions. Corey Robinson would have to play the game of his career. The Trojans would have to convert on key 3rd downs and the occasional 4th down.
On Florida State's opening possession, Trickett dropped back and threw his first interception as Chris Pickett won the jump ball battle at the Troy 35-yard line. After a 15-yard return, the Trojans began their first possession at the midfield stripe. Nine plays later, Marlon Bryant put Troy on the board and they held a 3-0 lead. As the ball sailed through the uprights, the confidence level on the Troy sideline crept up a little.
As the Trojans took a 3-0 lead into the 2nd quarter, Trickett finally got going and connected for a 42-yard touchdown pass. Suddenly, the Doak had life and FSU held a 7-3 lead. But that lead would last all of 4 minutes before Troy countered with a solid right hook. After converting two key third downs, Robinson found Felton Payton in the end zone to put Troy back on top 10-7. After neither team could get a first down, the game went to half 10-7.
The Trojans took the 2nd half kickoff and went to work. After one first down, Troy was facing 3rd and 12 from their own 37-yard line. The Doak grew louder and louder as the Nole fans tried to wake their team up from this nightmare. Robinson dropped back and streaking down the middle of the field uncovered was sophomore Chandler Worthy. Robinson threw a dart to the Georgia native and the Trojans took their biggest lead of the day, 17-7.
Florida State struck back quickly however as Devonta Freeman began to run all over the Trojans defense. After a Clint Trickett 13-yard touchdown pass, the Doak was alive again. But the 3-point deficit was as close as Florida State would get the rest of the game.
Troy responded yet again with a touchdown drive of their own that saw Willie Brooks dive over the pile on 4th and 1 from the Florida State 32-yard line for a first down. He eventually capped the drive with a 25-yard scamper to make it 24-14. Marlon Bryant would hit a career long 44-yard field goal to give Troy a 27-14 in the opening minute of the 4th quarter. Florida State's national title hopes were officially on life support.
The Noles responded like a champion as Devonta Freeman broke 3 tackles on his way to the garnet end zone making it 27-21 with 4:18 remaining. Florida State would need to force a punt if they wanted to stay in the national title discussion. The Trojans, on the other hand, were just 4:18 from their biggest win at the FBS level.
Willie Brooks and Brian Exley pounded the Noles in between the tackles and converted on two 3rd downs to drive into Noles territory. With Florida State having just one timeout left, Willie Brooks took a handoff and shot through the line of scrimmage and was inside the red zone before a Seminole could bring him down. Florida State called their final timeout but the damage was done and Troy was in field goal range. Facing 4th down at the FSU 15, Marlon Bryant lined up for a game clinching field goal. The snap and hold were true and the ball went right down the pipe, taking Florida State's national championship hopes with it.
The Trojans had done it. The upset of the decade was complete. The crowd headed for the exits with 24 seconds left in the game, with shock all over their faces. The small contingent of Troy fans who made the drive were jubilant and celebrating as the final seconds ticked off. As the triple zero's showed on the clock, the Trojans earned the respect of all of college football. Twenty years after their move up to the highest level of college football, the Trojans have arrived.

Next Up: vs La Tech
Troy, AL - It took nearly a full quarter, but Troy finally woke up on Saturday. After the monumental win over Florida State, it was expected the Trojans may come out of the gate sluggish against Louisiana Tech. Luckily, Troy woke up near the end of the first quarter and the foot never left the gas pedal.
All-American hopeful Nick Isham struggled mightily against Troy's zone looks and threw a career high 4 interceptions. The junior started the game off on fire building Louisiana Tech a 14-0 lead before the collapse began.
As Troy began to salt the game away, the Troy student section began chants of B-C-S yet again. Should the Trojans not stumble much this season, the BCS could very well be in the Trojans' future. As for now, they're 1-0 in conference play and get to enjoy a much needed bye week.
