Huskies 2012 Schedule Released

STORRS, ct -- The Connecticut Huskies 2012 football schedule has been released. The following are a few of the interesting games on the schedule:

WEEK 1: August 30th, HOME vs. UMass
--UConn will welcome UMass to FBS football, as the Minute Men will play the Huskies in the season opener. The game appears to be one of many to come in future years, as the border state universities will certainly become rivals.

WEEK 3: September 15th, AWAY at Maryland
--This will mark the first meeting between the Huskies and former coach Randy Edsall, who is currently at the helm of the University of Maryland. While Edsall was a popular coach among UConn fans, his departure has left the UConn faithful soured. Coming off a Fiesta Bowl loss in 2011, Edsall left immediately after the game to sign a new contract for his "dream job", Maryland.

WEEK 6: October 6th, AWAY at Rutgers
--The Huskies open the Big East conference schedule on the road in New Jersey to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The Huskies hope to capture their first solo Big East title - the school has won two co-championships, resulting in one BCS game berth.

WEEK 14: December 1st, HOME vs. Cincinnati
--UConn will take on the Cincinnati Bearcats for Senior Day. The game promises to be a good one, as the Huskies and Bearcats seem to always play at a high-scoring pace.

A Look at (RS) SR Johnny McEntee

Hopefully Johnny can bring the pinpoint accuracy to the field in his final season with the Huskies.

Welcome to the Big Time
Huskies wow Minute Men in UMass' first FBS game

EAST HARTFORD, ct -- College football season, oh how America has missed you! After a nine month hiatus, the Connecticut Huskies were back in action at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, CT to take on the University of Massachusetts Minute Men. The meeting marked the first-ever FBS game for UMass, who has joined the Mid-American Conference this season.

From the start it was evident who was the favorite - the team from the Nutmeg State. On just the second play from scrimmage, UConn strong safety Gilbert St. Louis took an interception back 29 yards to the house. The Huskies' defense completely dominated the Minute Men all game. The Huskies were able to put intense pressure on the UMass quarterback, coming up with seven sacks, four by standout senior left end Trevardo Williams. The pressure ultimately led to the Huskies' coming up with five interceptions on the game, three of which were taken back for touchdowns.

The player of the game for UConn certainly had to be redshirt senior cornerback/returner Blidi Wreh-Wilson. Wreh-Wilson not only had an interception for a touchdown, but also had a strong impact on special teams. With time winding down in the first quarter, Wreh-Wilson was able to return a punt 71 yards for a score. BWW also stared the second half with a 100 yard kickoff return for a touchdown, giving him a whopping three trips to the end zone in one game --as a defensive player!

UConn coach Paul Pasqualoni was asked what he would like to see changed from the way his team played. As usual, it centered around the play of redshirt senior quarterback Johnny McEntee. McEntee finished the game just 7 for 15 passing, but more importantly threw 3 interceptions. As Pasqualoni stated, "Sure the three picks won't hurt against UMass, but when we get in to Big East play, we'll get burned. We can't rely on our defense to carry us the entire season."

Trevardo Williams Named Big East Defensive POTW

Williams Named Big East Defensive POTW

STORRS, ct -- In his weekly press conference, UConn head coach Paul Pasqualoni announced that senior left end Trevardo Williams has been named the Big East Defensive Player of the Week for Week 1 of the 2012-2013 season. Williams led the Huskies' defense during their 52-14 victory over the UMass Minute Men. Williams compiled six solo tackles, including four sacks. He currently leads the country in that statistic.

Run, Huskies, Run
Connecticut picks up over 170 yards on the ground

EAST HARTFORD, ct -- After a Week 1 drubbing of the lowly UMass Minute Men, many among the media contingent were unsure of what to make of the Connecticut Huskies. Sure, the Huskies dominated on the defensive and special teams side of the ball, but could they come out and establish a solid offensive game?

Well, the Huskies may have answered this question. On a rainy night in East Hartford, CT, the Huskies literally ran away with a victory against ACC foe North Carolina State. Between redshirt sophomore Lyle McCombs and redshirt senior DJ Shoemate, the Huskies were able to pick up over 170 yards rushing the football. This made life a lot easier for both the Connecticut defense, as well as the passing attack.

At the offset, it looked like the rain was going to get the best of senior quarterback Johnny McEntee, who started off extremely slow, throwing 3 interceptions in the first half. McEntee was able to settle down though, and at one point connected on ten straight pass attempts -- in the rain! McEntee finished the game with over 170 yards on 20 attempts.

The Huskies will look to extend their record to three wins without a loss as they head on the road for the first time this season, to take on the Maryland Terrapins.

Injury Report

Pasqualoni: Abdominal Tear for HB McCombs

STORRS, ct -- Following the Huskies' dominant victory over North Carolina State, it has now just been learned that Connecticut standout RS So running back Lyle McCombs sustained a tear to his right abdominal muscle during the game. The diagnosis does not look to be too serious, as he is projected as probable for this week's game at Maryland.

McCombs has been a key force for the Huskies' offensive attack this season, tallying over 100 yards in each of his first two games. Pasqualoni stated that the coaching staff will keep watch on the injury and may limit McCombs's time on the field in the upcoming weeks.
