Re: Northwestern Wildcats (NCAA 13)

#10 Northwestern @ Michigan State
Spartan Stadium
East Lansing, MI
November 17, 2012

A Date with Destiny
NU survives MSU, will return home with a shot to clinch

EAST LANSING, MI - On 4th and 10, Michigan State hit a 41 yard pass down the sideline. On the next play, they hit a 33 yard touchdown to take the lead with less than a minute and a half to go.

And there was nothing but calm on the Northwestern sideline, because they've been through this before.

Trevor Siemian calmly and coolly led the Wildcats down the field, just as he did last week at Michigan, and just as he did three weeks ago against Iowa. There was never any panic, and hardly a shred of doubt, and only supreme confidence when Jeff Budzien trotted out to kick the game-winning field goal with no time left, giving Northwestern a 21-19 win over the Spartans, completing a perfect regular season away from Ryan Field.

At 10-1, the Wildcats will host in-state archrival Illinois in Evanston next week. A victory will send them to Indianapolis as Legends Division champions.

"We all had confidence in our players," NU coach Pat Fitzgerald said after the game. "We've been in this position before, multiple times. The moment is never too big for our guys anymore. We've reached a level of maturity and confidence and focus as a team where we welcome these moments late in close games; we relish them. We believe in each other, and because of that belief, we're able to succeed with the game on the line."

Aside from the division championship being on the line next week, in-state bragging rights in the Land of Lincoln are up for grabs. There is no love lost between the Wildcats and the Illini, and although he's new to the rivalry, Northwestern defensive coordinator Brian Kudron held nothing back in describing his feelings.

"I hate them," he said, referencing the Illini. "I can't stand them, and our play next week will show just how much disdain there is on our side for them. Senior Day against Illinois, with a spot in the Big Ten title game on the line for us? Next week will be the most physical game we play. It won't be enough to beat Illinois next week. Our job as a defense will be to punish them for showing up on the field. We want to deprive them of their will to continue. We want to make them quit."

Re: Northwestern Wildcats (NCAA 13)

Four more for Northwestern
New additions include elite tight end Lee Downing

November 20, 2012

Headed into the final recruiting weekend of the regular season, Northwestern's roll continued, as the Wildcats scored commitments from four more prospects, bringing their 2013 class to 14 members.

The headliner of the new additions is four-star tight end Lee Downing from MacArthur High School in Decatur, Illinois. At 6'4, 245 pounds, the nation's #7 tight end is more of a receiving threat than a blocker, but he is elite when it comes to catching the football. Considering both Wisconsin and Notre Dame - two schools that use the tight end extensively in their passing game - pursued him heavily, this is a major coup for Northwestern, who used their academics and location to fend them off.

Joining Downing as recent commitments are three-star Chicagoland safety AJ Young of Fenton High School in Bensenville, massive 6'8, 320-pound three-star offensive tackle JT Reynolds of Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Michigan, and Martin Brown, a lanky 6'6, 213 pound three-star linebacker out of the Cleveland suburb of Strongsville in Ohio.

With their class now over half full, Northwestern's coaches can pour all their recruiting resources into this weekend's massive showdown against rival Illinois. Recruiting boss Brian Kudron has successfully hyped up the game around the state, as many prospects, both senior and underclass, from across the state of Illinois will be in attendance as guests of Northwestern.

Game Notes
Offensively, the Illini and the Wildcats look very similar, both on paper and in style of offense, although Illinois is more pass-oriented than Northwestern. Nathan Scheelhaase has had an erratic season throwing the ball, hovering around 50% in completion percentage and throwing 14 interceptions to 18 touchdowns, but he's still a dangerous playmaker, both with his arm and with his legs; he's run for 473 yards and six touchdowns. When the Illini run the ball, Scheelhaase will often run option with 215-pound sophomore Donovonn Young, who leads the team with 732 yards (5.1 YPC) and eight scores. When they pass, it will almost always focus on two targets: wideout Spencer Harris and tight end Jon Davis. Harris has 59 receptions for 728 yards and four touchdowns, while Davis has 50 catches for 759 yards and eight scores. After those two the next leading receiver is Darius Millines, with 20 catches, 308 yards, and two TDs.

Defensively, there is a wide gap between the two teams; Illinois's defense has been porous all season. They're 11th in the Big Ten in total defense, 11th in pass defense, 9th in run defense, and 10th in scoring defense. They don't get to the quarterback (tied with Purdue at the bottom of the conference in sacks), but do take the ball away, tied with Wisconsin for the league lead in interceptions with 16. Middle linebacker Jonathan Brown leads the Illini with five sacks; starting defensive ends Tim Kynard and Michael Buchanan have combined for only 4.5. Justin Green and Terry Hawthorne are playmakers at corner, with four and three interceptions, respectively.

Bound for Indy!
Northwestern routs Illinois, wins the Legends Division

EVANSTON, IL - Northwestern's Cinderella season is now one more victory away from Pasadena.

Venric Mark got the Wildcats off to an explosive start on Saturday against rival Illinois, returning a punt 84 yards for a touchdown in the opening minutes. Northwestern never let up from there, running a blistering 99 plays from scrimmage, at times growing impatient with the officials' spotting of the ball, en route to a 45-16 drubbing of their in-state rivals. The victory clinches the Legends Division for the Cats, who will play Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game in Indianapolis.

As the clock ticked down to zero in the fourth quarter, the Wildcats had Gatorade showers ready for both head coach Pat Fitzgerald and defensive coordinator Brian Kudron.

"I can't even express how proud I am of these kids," Fitzgerald said. "This is a program that nobody ever expects anything from. Except us. We have high expectations of ourselves, and we knew what we were capable of as a team this year. We knew that our goals were obtainable if we believed in each other, and if we stuck together and kept our focus and kept our eyes on the prize. We did all that, and we see the rewards right now. This team never doubted itself. We've got tremendous character, and tremendous leadership on this team."

"I'd be lying if I told you I expected this much success this soon," Kudron said. "I knew there was talent to work with on this defense when I took this job, but never in my wildest dreams did I envision this right away. I thought it would take some time for our kids to adopt the scheme, and I expected some growing pains along the way. For this defense to come together like this and prove to be one of the toughest in the Big Ten right off the bat like this, that's a testament to the players. I don't deserve any of the credit. It's on kids like Quentin Williams, and David Nwabuisi, and Jared Carpenter, and Ibraheim Campbell. Those guys seized control of this defense and kept everyone in line, and led by example. And for this team to have a chance to win the Big Ten, it says so much about the dedication of these players."

Re: Northwestern Wildcats (NCAA 13)

Still hoping you'll post a very detailed description of your sliders and game settings as far as quarters, speed, threshhold, everything..

I gave up on NCAA 2013 because I could find a good slider set, yet your games seem to have VERY realistic scores and stats... Do you simulate anything? Offense? Defense? The entire game?

Please, please respond! You might save the game for me! :P

Re: Northwestern Wildcats (NCAA 13)

Looking really good! I'm a huge fan of close games, keep it up! Hope to see you make it to Pasadena. I'm a bit confused why Georgia was bumped out of the top spot after a very convincing win against GT though. I'm following though!
