NFL Kickoff 2013

The preseason is over. The final whistle blew in the preseason, signaling the fact that the regular season was just a week away. Before we get to game coverage, some news...

Eagles first round pick offensive lineman Lane Johnson falls to injury.

In the preseason finale, the Cardinals won on the back of Larry Fitzgerald, who recorded 193 receiving yards.

Colin Kapernick looks ready for the regular season after throwing 3 touchdowns in a win for the 49ers.

Bad news, Redskins fans: center Will Montgomery fell to injury and will miss the entire season.

The Redskins, Falcons, Jets and Bengals were victorious in the preseason finale.

In a surprising move, the 49ers released third year running back Kendall Hunter.

The Browns win in week four of the preseason, pleasing Brandon Weeden.

Jared Allen falls to injury, which hurts the Vikings' defense.

Derrick Johnson, Chiefs linebacker, falls to injury.

Bad news for the 49ers: linebacker Aldon Smith falls to injury.

Steelers banged up as usual; Lamarr Woodley falls to injury and Lawrence Timmons will miss the season with a foot stress fracture.

In a big loss, the Texans will be without star wideout Andre Johnson for the season, who suffered a broken femur.

Even worse, the Bengals will start the season without young star quarterback Andy Dalton, who suffered a dislocated elbow. John Skelton looks likely to fill in for Dalton.

The Dolphins were champions in free agency. However, one of their signings, linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, will miss the season with an Achilles tear.

2013 Week 1 Game of the Week: Falcons @ Saints

In a competitive divisional match up, the Falcons take on the Saints. Sean Payton returns in this game after being suspended all of last season for the Bounty Scandal. Matt Ryan and the Tony Gonzalez led offense hope to finally reach the Superbowl after falling to the 49ers in the NFC Championship.

The Saints are banged up to start the season, playing without:

FS Malcolm Jenkins (dislocated elbow, 2 weeks)

LE Akiem Hicks (dislocated ankle, 3 weeks)

LBs Curtis Lofton and Junior Galette (pulled groin)

C Brian De La Puente (dislocated ankle 2 weeks)

The Falcons are not much better, playing without:

RT Mike Johnson, who was battling for the starting tackle spot. (broken thumb, 3 weeks)

RT Lamar Holmes (Partial PCL tear, 5 weeks) Johnson's backup Holmes also fell to injury, which does not bode well for the Falcons offensive line.

LG Jacques McClendon (upper arm fracture, 6 weeks) The Falcons will have to reach deep into their offensive line depth, with 3 men injured.

The Saints defense, which had high hopes under new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, is banged up. The potent offense for the Falcons might be less high powered with a injury-riddled offensive line.

The two teams seem to be evenly match, and this game looks like a matchup of the two teams most likely to win the NFC South.
