NFL Draft Preview Quarter Check In

#1 Cornerback Kyle Fuller- Virginia Tech

The best DB to come out of the college ranks this year. Was a key cog on a disruptive Hokies Defense that managed to win the ACC this year. Came into the season a highly touted prospected and didn’t disappoint. Showed a willingness to tackle as he led all Corners in tackles with 64. Had 3 interceptions in his final two collegiate games against #17 Florida St in ACC Championship and Orange Bowl Victory over Fresno. Very intelligent player and is agile enough to turn his hips and run with receivers on the next level. Best All around cover man in the NCAA whether it’s man or zone.

Projected Round- 1st

#5 Quarterback AJ McCarron- Alabama

One of the most reliable quarterback in all of college football and Consesus First Team All-American. Excellent leadership qualities evident by his 3 National Championships. Doesn’t possess a cannon arm but has nice touch on the football. Was Top 3 in the NCAA in QB Rate, Completion %, Passing Yds and Passing TDs. Holds numerous Crimson Tide Passing Record and leaves as one of the most decorated Quarterback to ever play in the NCAA. Led the Tide to an unbeaten record his final year while his team averaged a whopping 42 PPG!! Roll Tide

Projected Round- 1st

#12 Outside Linebacker Anthony Barr- UCLA

The most NFL ready prospect on a solid Bruins defense. One of the smartest linebackers in college football. Led the NCAA in tackles……a freak of nature coming off the edge and causes problems for offensive lineman with his mix of strength and finesse…..Not the best coverage guy but really knows how to get to the ball carrier…..at worst will be a third down specialist on passing rushing situations

Projected Round- 7th

Re: Clemson Tiger/ Green Bay Packer

Green Bay Packers vs. Baltimore Ravens

In Week 6 the undefeated Green Bay Packers would face their biggest challenge of the year against the defending Superbowl champion Ravens. Baltimore had stumbled to a 2-3 start to the season and was looking to build some momentum. Ray Rice started off running the ball well in the first and Green Bay struggled containing the run. But by the second quarter the Packers had found a way to contain the speedy back but that’s when the play action game came into play. Flacco and Pitta connected on a 76yd bomb to the end zone to put the Ravens up 10-7. Lacy managed to run in a TD before half and reclaim the lead 14-10 going into halftime

Not sure what the Raven talked about at halftime but once the 2nd half began it became a lot more difficult for the Packers to move the ball. It didn’t help that RB Eddie Lacy would go down with broken ribs and wouldn’t return. Despite that the Packers managed to snatch a lead late in the fourth when Jones caught a fade in the back of the end zone to take a 22-19 lead. The Raven’s Jacoby Jones however would strike back a couple plays later on a 73yd TD that would put the game away. Baltimore handed Green Bay their first loss of the season in a heartbreaking game 26-22. The lack of pressure put on Flacco in the pocket allowed some pretty big plays down the field that ultimately cost the Packers the game. Green Bay couldn’t force a single turnover on the night and Nick Perry who had 6 Sacks in his last two games had little impact on the game. Starting RB Eddie Lacy will miss next game against the visiting Browns.

Re: Clemson Tiger/ Green Bay Packer

Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings

In a rematch of last year’s wildcard playoff game Green Bay hosted Minnesota in a matchup of divisional rivals. Vikings came into the game as the 2nd best Defense in the league but Green Bay was returning playmakers Jermichael Finley and Eddie Lacy from injury. It was clear from the start the Packers weren’t messing around as they quickly jumped out to a 7-0 lead as Coleman connected with Nelson on a 5yd TD. It didn’t take long for the Packers to get back in red zone but this time Coleman had the ball picked off. Luckily Green Bay’s Defense forced the Vikings into yet another punting situation. The Vikings were held scoreless in the first half and by halftime the Packers led 21-0.

The Viking weren’t going to lie down however and came out the half swinging. Peterson started picking up steam in the 3rd. All it took was a simple screen pass which turned into an Adrian Peterson 69yd gallop into the end zone. Desmond Bishop and the Vikes forced their first punt of the afternoon and Minnesota pulled to within 7 after Ponder and Patterson hit a pretty looking fade route. It had took a while but Minnesota had clawed themselves right back into the game heading into the fourth.

The Packers struck back hard and really really fast. Randall Cobb’s kick return to midfield and Eddie Lacy’s 40yd TD run down the sideline put a touchdown on the scoreboard in less than 30 seconds. Packers CB Casey Heyward would pick off his 2nd ball of the night and hopes of a Vikings comeback went down the drain. Jordy Nelson tacked on a couple more TDs and the Packer blow out Minnesota to the score 42-14. Big news next week will be the return of QB Aaron Rodgers and whether or not he will start over BJ Coleman who has played terrific in his absence.

Re: Clemson Tiger/ Green Bay Packer

NFL Draft Preview Quarter Check In

#20 Runningback- Carlos Hyde- Ohio State

A real workhorse kind of guy that can get the tough yards. Managed to finish 3rd in Heisman race behind only Johnny Manziel and fellow Buckeye Braxton Miller. Not exactly a world class sprinter but has decent wheels on him. Seems to enjoy contact and makes a habit of breaking would-be tackles……his 17 rushing Tds was tied for 2nd most in the nation and was a Consensus First Team All- American. Was upset over the Buckeyes snub in the polls late in the season and took it out on the Beavers in the Rose Bowl.

Projected Round- 7th

#6 Free Safety- Ahmad Dixon- Baylor

Dixon has quietly made himself into a legit NFL prospect. Is like a coach on the field and commands the respect of his defense. One of the best if not the best at deciphering the opposing play call. Late in the season however was bothered with an foot fracture and his play suffered……isn’t very good at helping to stop the run and lacks the complete package of a prototypical safety. His final collegiate game was a disastrous 38-6 trouncing by the Spartans where Dixon had little impact. Interesting to see if NFL scouts will ignore his late season play and take him for the talent that he is.

Projected Round- 6th

#10 Wide Receiver- Jared Abbrederis- Wisconsin

One of the most consistent wideouts the last 2 season has been Wisconsin native Abbrederis. Arguably the best hands in the country along with the ability to create separation despite not possessing top notch 4.4 speed. Legit athlete who can make plays in space and creates after the catch…….was injured in the Badgers opening day win over Umass and wouldn’t return till week 10. Wisconsin who was 5-3 when Jared returned would win their next 5 games to gain a Sugar Bowl berth.

Projected Round- 4th

Re: Clemson Tiger/ Green Bay Packer

Green Bay Packers vs. Philadelphia Eagles

A big game on the NFL schedule this week was the showdown between the 7-2 Eagles and the 7-1 Packers. Two of the most explosive quarterbacks in the league in Mike Vick and Aaron Rodgers were the keys to the matchups. The former was complimented by the 2nd leading rusher in the league (McCoy) and the latter was facing his first real test since returning from injury. Rodgers didn’t play like a man returning from injury as he hit Lacy on a screen pass for the TD. Phillies first chance with the ball ended rather quickly with a fumble and Rodgers capitalized with another score for the 14-0 lead.

Midway through the 2nd quarter with a 21-0 lead Cobb made a move and returned the ball all the way to GB’s 30yd line. Rodgers threw a deep ball the very next play but the ball found itself in CB Cary William’s arms. Vick and the Eagles took advantage of the momentum swing and put 7 on the board. Both Rodgers and Vick managed to put together TD drives in the final seconds of the 2nd quarter and the Packers went into the half with a 28-14 lead. A big reason Green Bay jumped to a big lead was how well the offensive line protected by not giving up a single sack. The trend would continue all night.

Both defense came out playing well specifically LB AJ Hawk who seemed to make all the plays in the third. After a Green Bay special teams miscue led to a safety backup QB Nick Foles threw a TD to Desean Jackson to pull the Eagles 22-28. Philly had finally gotten back to a one score game but they wouldn’t get any closer. The Green Bay offense started to heat up as always. Cobb, Nelson and Jones would all catch TD catches in the fourth and Philly just couldn’t keep up with Rodgers after Vick went down. 49-25 was the final score which looked pretty ugly compared to how completive the game was. Rodgers and Lacy played great and completely outplayed the tandem of Vick and McCoy. The Packers improve to 8-1 and tie for the best record in the NFL along with New Orleans. Green Bay will keep the Saints in mind as they visit Eli Manning and the Giants next week on Sunday Night Football.
