Re: Proud and Immortal - Oklahoma State Dynasty [NCAA 14]

Not Even Close, Cowboys Dominate Mississippi State

Despite being tackled by three defenders, Charlie Moore pushes in for the touchdown.
HOUSTON, Texas - Though Mike Gundy may prefer a home game than one at a neutral site, his Cowboys played just like they were in Stillwater. For one quarter, Mississippi State kept it close. Both defenses not allowing each other to do much of anything. In the second quarter, behind J.W. Walsh's arm, the Cowboys came alive. Everything was thrown at Oklahoma State's offense, but no plan seemed to work. On almost every drive, the Cowboys were soaring down the field. Not letting anyone stop them. There were some questions of a serious drop off in offensive talent with Walsh standing behind center. Any doubters were silenced with this magnificent performance, though he did manage to throw two interceptions to almost give the Bulldogs new life.

"We just came out in the second quarter with an entirely new mentality. Instead of playing a defensive game, our offense came alive," Coach Mike Gundy commented after the game. "Once everything starts clicking on side, it'll eventually spread throughout the entire team." Most of the first quarter was committed to slowing down Perkins and not letting him run all over them. The most notable example was constantly tackling him at the one yard line. Preventing him from scoring a touchdown to keep Mississippi State even with the Cowboys. Try as he might, the defense did not budge. Stopping him on fourth down. Yet, due to some poor tackling, did put up a good fight. Unfortunately, Head Coach Dan Mullen decided to move to a more passing game. Completely disregarding Oklahoma State's failure to stop the run.

For the first half of the game, running seemed to be a problem for the Cowboys. Despite knowing this weakness, the Bulldogs seemed to constantly blitz Walsh. Leaving targets open down the field. It did not help that the quarterback was much faster than everyone on their line and could easily run away from danger. The blocking also proved to be great, as they managed to hold their blocks and give Walsh enough time. On the other side, the Bulldog's right guard seemed to be unable to stop Trace Clark who sacked Russell four times in school record breaking fashion. Don't expect this type of performance every week from Clark, as he's not likely to be getting any favorable matches anytime soon.

After the win in Houston, Oklahoma State travels to San Antonio to take on the Roadrunners. After a dominating performance against a SEC school, it's expected that the Cowboys will once again dominate a lesser opponent.

Jeremy Smith breaks a tackle in route to his third touchdown in the fourth.

Kevin Peterson's interception for a touchdown in the third quarter stopped Mississippi State gaining anymore momentum.

Game Notes
There isn't much to say about this game. With Oklahoma State's high powered offense and UTSA's weak defense, it isn't likely this will be a close game at all. UTSA may have held New Mexico's offense to minimal yardage through the air, but the Cowboys are an offense rooted in fast-paced, high scoring offense. After allowing 44 points, UTSA is not looking the greatest at defense. With J.W. Walsh coming into his own late in the game, as is the same with Jeremy Smith, UTSA is not looking like they'll be able to put up much a fight against OK State's offense. If UTSA can get started early on offense, though, the game may be much closer than many experts think. This will be the first match in history between these two teams.

Series Record: TIED at 0-0
Prediction: Oklahoma State 45 - UTSA 20

Re: Proud and Immortal - Oklahoma State Dynasty [NCAA 14]

Oklahoma State Dominates UTSA, Offense Gains Over 700 Total Yards

Desmond Roland lays out a UTSA defender in route to a controversial last second touchdown.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - As soon as junior running back Desmond Roland stepped into the endzone, boo's rang down onto the field. Roland merely looked at the hostile crowd, shrugged, and placed the ball on the ground. All experts agree, Oklahoma State should have kneeled the ball to secure the win. Instead, they ran with it. Trying to fully demoralize the other opponent and make a statement to any other team. This decision has made Oklahoma State look like the bad guy. Picking on an inferior team. Everyone knew that UTSA would be blown out in the game, but they did not expect it to be carried out in such a way.

In a press conference after the game, Coach Mike Gundy had some words to say regarding the decision. "The offense isn't just going to stop playing despite leading. I don't care if there's seven minutes left on the clock or seven seconds. I want them preforming to the best of their abilities." Gundy obviously wasn't pleased with the question. At the end of the game, every bench player was put into the game. There was no need to risk injuries, yet UTSA still looked weak against the second team. Even Desmond Roland had a few words to say to the reporters. "Look, they had a chance to stop me. I destroyed whoever it was trying to tackle me. I scored. That's all that needs to be said."

Heading into the game, UTSA seemingly had a top passing offense. When it came down to game time, though, UTSA quarterback Eric Soza just never wanted to throw the ball deep down the field. Most of his passes were dumped off to receivers running along the line of scrimmage. They were forced to make the yardage themselves. With Oklahoma State's fast defense, that plan of attack was never going to work. One of the worst passing defenses in the game managed to stop one of the "better" ones in the NCAA. When Soza did go deep, he was ultimately picked off. Not exactly the best of ways to calm a person's nerves.

J.W. Walsh continued to play stellar. Coupled with the great rushing tandem of Smith and Ronald, the Cowboys's offense was nigh unstoppable. Most of Walsh's passing stats coming from the first half. Right before halftime, Walsh was taken off the field complaining of back problems. It turned out that the injury was not serious, but Walsh did not play any of the third quarter. Instead, Clint Chelf filled in to relieve Walsh. While he did play admirably, Mike Gundy has assured everyone that Walsh will continue to be the starter. No controversy is brewing. As long as the redshirt sophomore quarterback continues to play well, he will keep taking the snaps from the center.

After the domination of UTSA, Oklahoma State moves on to take play Lamar in what will likely be another blowout win. On the other hand, UTSA, who has now fallen to 0-2, will travel to Tucson to take on the Arizona Wildcats. It is looking to likely be the team's third loss.

David Glidden could not be stopped, as Chelf chucks the ball to him in the endzone.

Eric Soza finds himself on the receiving end of a crushing tackle.
