An Indomitable Will - The Life and Career of Anthony Swift

Chapter 1: Senior Year

I had never been a good athlete, heck I hardly considered myself one at all. But, as a young man in a small town where there are hardly 200 students, I guess I was above average. I grew up in the small town of Gunnison, Colorado; it was a town known for cattle and its love of football. This year I would be starting for my local Gunnison Cowboys as the quarterback and strong safety. We were like many schools in our district - short on people and short on players. I loved football, but I didn't know if this was what I really wanted... I guess I had no choice though.

*I want to thank djp73 for this inspiration. I run a couple of stories each that update every 3 days which leaves me with a day in between to mull around and do nothing so I decided to give this a try and run 3 stories. I hope readers enjoy it as I work on my story telling as well as graphic editing. I am hoping to become some-what decent at that for all of you. (As you can tell by first attempt, I am pretty awful at it!) Story is strongly based on Friday Night Lights Matt Saracen*

Gunnison is coming off a year where they were 0-9 in play, the school has nothing to show that would suggest a huge turn about; at least not when they plan to start a quarterback who has sat and played backup for the last 3 years.

Re: An Indomitable Will - The Life and Career of Anthony Swift

*It's the night of the first game... Everyone in this town expects so much of this team but the more I pay attention the more I realize that none of them have faith in me. I have heard rumors that some people want the coach to find another guy to fill the spot. I may not be the best player on the field but I have never given less than my all. It's time I stop living with the limitations people have made for me and start surpassing them.

Gunnison Cowboys visit the Delta Panthers this week!
Prediction: Delta 41, Gunnison 7

Re: An Indomitable Will - The Life and Career of Anthony Swift

Gunnison, Colorado--

In what was almost a complete reverse of today's game predictions the Gunnison Cowboys stunned the feeble looking Delta Panthers 31-7. Despite some mediocre play by quarterback Anthony Swift the Cowboys are 1-0 snapping a 2 year winless streak.

Anthony Swift throwing his first TD to WR George Sarria in the 2nd Quarter

2 Star Recruit at Quarterback
18/23, 269 Yards, 2 TD, 1 INT
16 Rushing Attempts, 109 Yards, 0 TD

1 Star Recruit at Strong Safety
3 Total Tackles

"Blue 80, Blue 80, hut, hut"

*As I fall into my drop back I hear someone approaching. Trying to tune it out I finish out my motion and turn to see my good friend Matt Underwood approaching.*

Matt: "Man, what are you still doing out here?"

Anthony: "What does it look like, I'm practicing."

Matt: "Practice is over man, it's been over!"

Anthony: "Not for me, I messed up today man, I threw one interception and made the wrong read several times."

Matt: "See, this is why we love you man. One mistake during a win and you take it this hard. We're lucky."

Anthony: "Lucky!? Matt, I can't tell who wants me off this team more the boys in the locker room or the boosters! No one has ever recognized me as a player for Varsity Football because I was always just a back up. This season is going to change that man, I'm going to change that."

"Red 35, Red 35, hut, hut...."

For Anthony he hasn't even considered he could play college ball. He still has trouble believing in himself. As for colleges, I think I will stay small time and go local, possibly Wyoming or CU/CSU.
