Big commitment for you, especially due to who you were up against. What I like about your signings compared to my Michigan dynasty is that the players who will commit to you have a chance to start Day 1, while I have to redshirt mine.
Good luck against FIU and U-M, I'm sure you're up for the challenge
Thank you for the feedback man! Definitely a big signing for us and a position that has really been a gaping hole for us on defense. Haha yeah that is one of the things being a bottom dwelling program at the moment, we need all the help we can get. Maybe at some point in the future, we will have a solid enough roster (like Michigan) where we can allow players to develop.
We should be pretty competitive against FIU and if we can even play Michigan anywhere near close, I will count it as a success. Thanks again for checking in!
Great start to the season Cheese...I bet your heart was pounding in the fourth quarter. Thomas did a hell of a job on the ground, wish I could get my own ground game going like that.

Thank you Deggezy! I really appreciate you checking in. It was a very tough and close game with Army. The ground game is deadly and still a big weakness for us. We get another potent running game this week in FIU with Dean Haynes. We have to tighten up on the defensive side of the ball.
Thomas continues to be our workhorse and the face of the team. We are definitely a ground and pound team first before all else.

Thanks matt! Definitely the kind of start we needed. Army was a very tough opponent and I think FIU will play us close as well before we head on the road for our two tough road matchups against Michigan and Oregon State.
I am very excited to pick up Graham who is a huge signing for us and should fill an immediate hole on defense. Cotton has not been getting it done at the position for a while now.

I'm concerned about your CBs as well. Maxey and Coleman may be tough to stop.
Haynes definitely has me concerned. Our defense has been the problem child during these early seasons. The main struggle I am facing right now as a program is that the recruiting (prior to my arrival) was so poor that we have zero depth and so I don't have the players to replace graduating seniors. The backups on the original roster were typically rated in the mid 50's and now those guys are getting thrust into starting roles. As I get a few more seasons and more of my guys into the system, we should start to do better but right now we are certainly feeling the strain.
So the big hit I took last season was the departure of both senior cornerbacks and my strong safety. I was able to bring in some three star corners but even those guys are rated in the low 60's. They have good athleticism but are still very raw talent wise. So guys like my freshman corner Wes Dunlap are getting thrust into starting roles right away.
The offense is coming together faster than the defense but we will get there. You certainly know how it goes. It is a process. Gosh do I love it though. I have been focusing on the trenches mainly, trying to get bigger on both sides of the ball. Have to start somewhere.
EMU freshman WR/KR Reggie Johnson returns the games opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown / quarterback Mark Iannotti throws a third quarter touchdown pass to wide receiver Nick Vaughn.
Offensive Explosion: Eagles Run Wild in 62-30 Dismantling of FIU
Eagles put up 62 points in lopsided affair; highest scoring output under Clayton; second highest in school history | Star halfback Robert Thomas goes down with torn tricep, expected to miss at least next four weeks | Redshirt freshman halfback Joel Humphrey takes home POTG honors for 169 yd, 3 TD showing.
AP Ypsilanti – Not many would have predicted the offensive explosion out of Eastern Michigan, as the Eagles dismantled FIU 62-30 in a late night matchup. The point total is the highest ever during head coach Dan Clayton's tenure and tied for the second highest in school history (62 points vs. Akron in 2001, 65 points against Eastern Illinois in 1956). Tragedy struck Eastern Michigan in the first half as they lost star HB Robert Thomas to a torn tricep. The injury is expected to keep the sophomore tailback sidelined for at least the next four weeks. The Eagles certainly didn't feel the loss in their running game however as redshirt freshman HB Joel Humphrey entered the game and put up 169 yards and three scores. The Villa Rica, Georgia native averaged over 8 yards per carry as he gashed the FIU defense. Humphrey, who runs a 4.4 40-yd dash, is the fastest tailback on the Eagles roster.
The Eagles will have to do without Robert Thomas who suffered a torn tricep tendon on this play. An MRI after the game confirmed the tear and Thomas is expected to have surgery later this week. Thomas will miss at minimum the next four weeks with the injury and could miss more time.
The Eagles got off to a hot start as true freshman WR/KR Reggie Johnson showed off his blazing speed returning the opening kickoff 87 yards for a score. Johnson would take a second kick return back in the second quarter. The two touchdowns were the first of Johnson's career. While overshined by the play of Humphrey, Eastern Michigan QB Mark Iannotti had an efficient day under center throwing for three scores.
FIU hung with the Eagles early on as they put up seventeen points in the first half, led by QB Jake Medlock. Medlock threw for two scores and added another on the ground. However, his performance would be marred by two second half turnovers that would help Eastern Michigan outscore the Golden Panthers 35-13 in the final two frames.
"What a game from Joel (Humphrey). He is young man we have always thought very highly of and to see him answer the way he did tonight after being thrust into the starting role was very special. I know the team and all of us at Eastern Michigan are hoping for a safe surgery and recovery for Robert (Thomas)." -- Eagles Head Coach Dan Clayton
Eastern Michigan (2-0) will be on the road next week as they head just a few hours down to the road to Ann Arbor to meet the #22 Michigan Wolverines (0-1). The Wolverines are coming off a tough opening season loss to #12 Central Florida 24-12. The two in-state foes met last year in Ypsilanti in a game where the Wolverines led by then junior halfback Stephen Hopkins ran for 235 yards and four scores. Michigan would win the game 49-28. Kickoff is scheduled, subject to rain delay, for 3:30 PM est.
