The Wildcats travel to Pennsylvania to take on the Nittany Lions in their 2nd Big 10 conference game of the season. Northwestern is coming off a big win against Rutgers in which their defense finally showed that it is capable of stopping a nose bleed. Justin Jackson is going to try and take the load of the offense once again and lead the Wildcats to their 2nd win.
Exciting, explosive first quarters have been the staple in this young Northwestern season, however, that was not the case in this game. It may not have been exciting or explosive but it was definitely different. Penn State jumped out to an early lead via their running game. Allen had several decent runs that eventually led him into the end zone to put PSU up 7-0 after their first drive. After a resulting punt from Northwestern that pinned PSU inside their own 20, Hackenberg had several tense moments. He was sacked, then threw an incompletion, and capped the failed drive by committing a safety. This was a very sloppy game from the opening kickoff. The Wildcats found themselves struggling early as star running back Justin Jackson knocked out of the game with a mild concussion and would not return. Warren Long was tasked with trying to carry a struggling offense. Northwestern managed a pair of field goals in the 2nd quarter and kept PSU off the scoreboard. Going into the half the Wildcats lead the Nittany Lions 8-7.
Both teams were looking to try and open the game up in the 2nd half but Penn State was the only team that was successful as the Wildcat would be unable to score any points in the 2nd half. After Penn State put up a touchdown about half way through the 3rd Northwestern went into panic mode for some reason. They just about threw out the running game and that ended their chance of winning this one. Their passing attack was nonexistent as they would end up throwing 5 interceptions in the 4th quarter alone. Of those 5 interceptions, Penn State answered with points on 4 of their takeaways. Penn State ended up being handed this game by Northwestern. They win by a final score of 28-8.

-Northwestern travels to West Lafayette to take on the Purdue Boilermakers this week. The Wildcats are coming off a rather disappointing loss against Penn State last week, a game in which they threw 5 interceptions all in the 2nd half. They are going to look to minimize those turnovers this week in a game in which the Cats are favored. Justin Jackson will be back in the lineup this week after having to leave the previous game early. Northwestern is going to need him to have a big impact as their offense is still trying to find its identity.
-Purdue is coming into this week off back to back losses at the hands of Notre Dame and Minnesota. The Boilermakers were blown out in both affairs and are going to be looking to find the success that led them to back to back victories in weeks 1 and 2 against Cincinnati and Northern Illinois. Purdue relies heavily on their passing attack which is something the Wildcats have struggled to defend all season. The Northwestern running attack vs the Purdue passing attack is the matchup that is going to decide this game I feel.
Hopefully you guys can beat Purdue. They're my version of a measuring stick in the Big Ten, and if my team can't beat them, then we just became lowest on the totem pole. Good luck!
