Re: Restoring Titletown: A Packers Franchise

Definitely better to start out 2-2 than 1-3. We are also 2-1 in the division which is very good.

Re: Restoring Titletown: A Packers Franchise

Packers Preview: Week Five
By Dan Witherspoon

-------------------------
After going 2-1 against the NFC North to start the season, the Green Bay Packers (2-2) will continue their campaign for the NFC North title this Sunday against the lowly Seattle Seahawks (1-2). Seattle is coming off of a bye week after picking up their first win two weeks ago against the St. Louis Rams. Quarterback John Friesz, after having terrible performances in the first two weeks, looked a lot better throwing for three touchdown passes despite completing under 50% of his passes.

Halfback Chris Warren is one of the few bright spots on the team,
averaging 96 yards a game and scoring 3 touchdowns.

Despite the Seahawks being bipolar, there is one constant that they can lean on. Halfback Chris Warren is having a great season so far, racking up 96 yards a game and three touchdowns. Green Bay has been up and down against the run thus far, so Warren should be able to do some damage as long as the offensive line can hold up.

MLB Fred Stickland-"We have got to do better than we did last week at stopping the run. They got a guy over there, Warren, who is really good. If we can hold them enough to get out to a big lead, they're done."

For Green Bay, halfback Edgar Bennett is out for at least another week. That leaves Dorsey Levens, once again, the starter heading into this week's game. Levens did have a successful first start, rushing for almost 100 yards and a touchdown but did fumble three times. Some of that can be blamed on the wet conditions in Chicago, but it is still concerning nonetheless. The good thing for the Packers is defensive tackle Joe Nash is out for the game. That leaves the Seahawks (right now) with just two defensive tackles on the roster. If the line tires out, Levens will face little resistance running the football.

Besides the presence of safety Eugene Robinson, Seattle's secondary is rather weak. With Green Bay having two Pro Bowl capable tight ends in Chmura and Jackson along with Brooks at receiver, it will cause a lot of matchup problems for the Seahawks. Green Bay should have no problem moving the ball, unless they turn it over like last week.

Favre guided the Packers past the Seahawks
with three first half touchdown passes.
Favre, Packers Cruise by 'Hawks

By Dan Witherspoon

-------------------------
If only every game could be this easy. The Packers played their first complete game of football this season, downing the Seahawks (1-3) at Lambeau Field 34-10. Quarterback Brett Favre threw for over 300 yards and three first half touchdown passes to three different receivers as the Seahawks had no answer for all of the weapons on the field.

Quarterback Brett Favre-"I'm proud of the guys. They were ready to play today. We went out there and, besides that one stupid interception I threw, we played perfect. If we can play this good every game, man...….can't nobody stop us."

With halfback Dorsey Levens getting consistent yardage on the ground (82), Favre was able to use the playaction pass and the Seahawks had no answer for it. Favre first hit tight end Mark Chmura on a beautiful goal line playaction fake for a two yard touchdown to start the offensive rout. Later in the first half, he would again playaction and find receiver Robert Brooks in the endzone for a 39 yard touchdown. And after finding tight end Keith Jackson for a touchdown pass right before halftime, the Seahawks had no chance of coming back. Altogether, he would connect with eight different receivers.

With the Seahawks having no answer for the Packers offense, they had to abandon the run quickly. That meant their most consistent player, halfback Chris Warren, was effectively taken out of the game before he could really get going. Warren would finish with only 62 yards on 16 carries. So the Hawks had to place their faith in the arm of quarterback John Friesz. And it wasn't pretty.

With no threat of a running game, the Packers defense was able to just pin their ears back and concentrate on the stopping the pass. It paid dividends as safety LeRoy Butler was able to snag a ricocheted ball and take it back to the house for an 81 yard touchdown that helped give the Packers a 28-3 lead going into halftime. The Seahawks would only muster up a garbage touchdown the rest of the way. Now at 3-2, the Packers will have a challenge next week when the Kansas City Chiefs (4-1) come to town.
