Stadium Opener Ends In Draw
Week 4, 2007

Oklahoma City, OK - Fans flocking into the newly opened Sonic Stadium left somewhat disappointed after their hometown Lancers tied the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The game went into overtime and neither team could get the ball past midfield, a theme that had taken over the game after a quiet 4th quarter. Jay Cutler threw nearly 500 yards, taking full advantage of the extra quarter of play. Fans will have to wait at least one more game before seeing the Lancers christen the field with its first win in its new stadium, but at least they can say the team didn't technically lose in its stadium-opening game.

QB Jay Culter - 31/47 473 YDS 1 TD 1 INT ; 11 ATT 55 YDS

Martz Steps Down
Week 14, 2007

Oklahoma City, OK - Mike Martz announced, following the Lancers 40-22 loss to the Chiefs, that he would be relinquishing his head coaching duties and take a "much needed break." Martz has been at odds ends with the front office since the team chose to trade away Kurt Warner early in the offseason. He apparently wasn't informed of the teams intention to move Warner. Recently, during the team's Week 5 bye, several more key members of the roster were moved for draft capital and once again Martz was not privy to any of the trade talks or even informed that the team was shopping them. Since the bye, the team has 7 of 9 games and has now been eliminated from playoff contention. OC Bobby Jackson, at the age of 67, gets his first crack at running a team after becoming interim head coach. QBs coach Kliff Kingsbury has been promoted to OC.

Lancers Finish Strong
Week 17, 2007

Oklahoma City, OK - The Lancers' streak of consecutive AFC West titles may have ended, but the team can walk away from the 2007 season with its heads held high after racking up 3-straight wins following the departure of its head coach Mike Martz in Week 14. Attention now comes to the vacancy at head coach. Interim head coach Bobby Jackson is likely to not retain the position and a search for a new coach starts this week.

OKC 23 - 16 MIA
WR Vincent Jackson - 5 REC 115 YDS 1 TD

Perfection, Patriots Make History
February 3, 2008

Oklahoma City, OK - Phoenix, AZ - The New England Patriots went a perfect 19-0 to claim its third Super Bowl win this decade, becoming the first team in the 16-game era to finish a season undefeated and win a Super Bowl. The Brady to Moss connection revitalized the Patriots offense in 2007, setting multiple records along the way. Although Chicago's Aaron Brooks took home league MVP honors for his guidance of the surprise Bears to the top of the NFC, Brady takes home Super Bowl MVP honors for the first time in his career after a 315 yard 3 touchdown performance. New England instantly becomes favorites to repeat in 2008 and perhaps try for a second undefeated season.

Youth Waive Hits NFL Coaching Ranks
2008

Six vacancies have been filled at the head coach position and three of them are aged 32 or under, with Kliff Kingsbury representing the youngest head coaching hire in NFL history at the age of 29. The AFC West is about to experience an influx inexperienced but eager coaches. The division also sees every team replacing its head coach after Chiefs head coach Mike Ditka called it quits following his teams elimination from the Wildcard Round. To make up for the youngster in the division, the Chiefs made former Lancers head coach Mike Martz its next head coach. It would seem Martz' interest in football has returned after stepping down midseason for Oklahoma City.

Hiring Recap
Kliff Kingsbury (29) -> Lancers 7-8-1
Josh McDaniels (31) -> Broncos 6-10
Lane Kiffin (32) -> Raiders 5-11
John Harbaugh (45) -> Argonauts 3-13
Jim Zorn (54) -> Panthers 7-9
Mike Martz (56) -> Chiefs 8-8
