Louisville loses 3 to transfer portal, 25 graduate
Courier-Journal

No matter how much you prepare, it's going to be tough to fill the hole created when you graduate 25 players from your team, with 18 of those players being starters.

Ontop of the 25 graduates, three freshmen will be transferring to other schools this off-season. OLB Kameron Wilson will be transferring to South Alabama, T Tim Lawson will be transferring to Marshall, and DT Henry Bryant to South Florida. All three transfers were redshirted for the 2021 season.

Cardinal fans will have to ponder on what could have been after shoulder issues plagued QB Malik Cunningham's senior season. One of Cunningham's top targets, WR Justin Marshall is another key name from the offense that will be graduating.

On the defensive side of the ball, the situation is much more dire. The Cardinals are losing key defensive names DE Yaya Diaby, OLB Jack Fagot, DT Malik Clark, CB Chandler Jones, amongst many others. Less than a quarter of the defensive starters remain.

Of the departures, only one was selected in the NFL draft, QB Malik Cunningham, in the 7th round.

Cardinals Get Six Commitments on National Signing Day, Sign 15
Courier-Journal

The Cardinals started Signing Day off with a bang, getting a signed letter-of-intent from the highest rated player in this incoming class, WR Ryan Miller. Miller chose Louisville over Texas A&M and Clemson.

Leading into signing day, Satterfield had only received commitments from players who would be graduating from high schools in Kentucky or Indiana, dipping into the local talent pool more than recent coaches at Louisville. However, none of the six players Louisville gained commitments from today were from either state.

WR Ryan Miller and HB Brent Dunlap are likely the two players best equipped to be instant difference makers for the Cardinals next season.

With the departures of so many key upperclassmen on the defensive side of the ball, MLB Dustin Young, CB Lonnie Miranda, and OLB Barrett Odom could all see action early on in their time at Louisville.

Louisville Cardinals 2022 Football Preview
Courier-Journal

Louisville, KY – The University of Louisville's Head Coach Scott Satterfield addressed the media ahead of the 2022 season.

Defensive Coordinator Bryan Brown was retained by Satterfield. Brown has served as the Defensive Coordinator for the Louisville Cardinals since 2018. Brown's defense was one of the lowest nationally in terms of points per games, but the defensive side of the ball forced several turnovers last season and had six defensive touchdowns. While most of the starters from last year are gone, almost all of the players stepping into starting roles have had time to practice and learn Brown's schemes.

Offensive Coordinator Gunter Brewer was also retained by Scott Satterfield. A questionable decision by Satterfield according to the masses, after throwing 25+ interceptions and fumbling the ball seven times last season, there was a complete lack of discipline on the offensive side of the ball last year. This season we will learn if we can chalk it up to an inexperienced offensive team or poor coaching.

Cardinals Have High Hopes for 2022 Recruiting Campaign
Courier-Journal

Louisville, KY -- After spending most of their recruiting efforts last season adding future depth to the offensive skill positions, Scott Satterfield's recruiting staff have their sights spread across some of the Louisville-area's best defensive players and lineman.

Kentucky's highest rated recruit, 4-star CB Greg Clark is a top target for Satterfield's coaching staff. Louisville would like to get commitments from the top players in Kentucky regardless of their position, but Greg Clark would be the perfect replacement for current Cardinal CBs Kei'trel Clark and Greedy Vance.

DT James Bell who plays less than 20 minutes away from Louisville's Cardinal Stadium for the Clarksville Generals, is another recruit Scott Satterfield specifically has his sights on.

According to Satterfield, adding lineman on both sides of the ball is an absolute must.
