Re: PS4 Discussion (MLB The Show 14)

Lots of gameplay things covered here so I won't suggest any,

I'd like to see correct rotating schedules for one. The regular scheduling was way off after season one playing the same inter conference teams year after year. Also the rivalry games were screwed up after year one. Using oakland this year instead of playing SF it put me against SD in year 2.

Another, after seeing the NBA2K trailer today I really hope the Show team get the uniform fabrics and colours correct, for example the satin scripts on the uniforms. 2K get those materials bang on and look so realistic ( even this gen).

Trivial I know but awesome if done.

Desperate for a screenshot at some point soon!

Edit: stadium fly bys would be amazing too

Im interested in the crowd AI which will probably be totally redone from the ground up. I don't expect it to feel and sound anything like the PS3 editions with regard to stadium noise, heckling, player cheering and just overall crowd interaction. That is one of the things that go a long way for a game, the atmosphere of the stadiums and crowds. With the new system, I expect to be introduced to something very new for the series so I'm interested in how they're going to put that together.

I agree. The crowd is very important. I like to play a lot in broadcast mode, and with the fans jumping around unrealistically in the first inning and later innings, it really takes away from the immersion factor.

How about the batters toss away the protective shin guards after a walk?

That animation would be wonderful to see in MLB The Show!

Here's another prime example of the CPU logic we were talking about earlier when it comes to relief pitching. Just happened in my season. The Yankees lost Mariano Rivera to injury and instead of putting Trevor Rosenthal or Eric O'Flaherty (their set up men, it's a fantasy draft season) into the closer's role they go with the minor league call-up Jose Mijares, in late August in the heat of a playoff race. But still some people will bend over backwards to defend everything about this game, even the serious flaws.

Re: PS4 Discussion (MLB The Show 14)

The following things have to change, as they suck a lot of the (fun) randomness out of the game:

                1) Runners judging line drives and bloopers with 1000000000% accuracy and getting back to base EVERY SINGLE TIME

                2) Catchers making the play behind the plate EVERY SINGLE TIME unless the ball goes out of play

                3) Outfielders NEVER stopping to avoid a potential collision (which I know won't happen but the fielders shouldn't know that) on a ball hit to the gap

If I'm not mistaken, as this is my only version of the Show on PS3, these things actually weren't in the games from '06 to '11, at least on the PS2. Again I'm not sure because I can't remember but I think things were that way in past editions.

Better fielding, better AI, and more stats overlay.
Also the ability to have a switch hitter hit from what side you want him to. I dont like how it forces you to pick the better match up based on what handness the picture is.

Re: PS4 Discussion (MLB The Show 14)

Player personalities would be great, especially now that we have a guy like Yasiel Puig who has a huge, easily definable personality that is like no one else's. Excitable, nonchalant, easy to anger, professional (Rivera,) friendly (Jim Thome, Sean Casey,) quirky (hunter pence,) fierce (guys like Chris Carpenter,) timid/nervous (these guys do more sweating and pulling off their caps) --- all could be personality traits or packages that players have. I think it'd be kinda cool, and a fun part of player creation.

You could assign complete packages for easy picking, or go deeper. Like reaction under pressure -- reactions to home runs can tell you a lot about a player. When a player hits a big home run, how emotional does he get? Does he just put his head down and circle the bases like a pro? Or does he jump around and holler? How about a home run when there's a massive lead? What about when he's been struck out a lot at the plate? Does he slam his bat? Does he hang his head and walk ashamed back to the dugout? Does he shout at himself? Comment to the catcher about the pitch? Lots of cool situational stuff you could do.

Besides that, one thing that's ALWAYS bugged me about The Show is the crowds moving in synchronization like some kind of dancing squad. Drives me insane. I hope they can fix that in the PS4 version.

Grub I think the player personalities have been mentioned but I think it's a great idea. Something real subtle so it's not overboard, but yea, add some life to some of these guys. I think a good start would be the walk up and between pitches, animations on called strikes that are out of the zone, the post strikeou walk back to the dugout, etc

Holding Runnners/Pickoff Move should absolutely be a rating for pitchers.

Well...it already is(hidden....it's only normal(everyone.....) and plus(Andy Pettite and the likes)...

but.....where and how would you base your rating off this?

I want to be able to cut the ball again mid flight.

Still don't understand why that hasn't made it's way back yet, it's an integral part of the game.

You shouldn't have to decide if you are throwing to the cut off man right away in a bang bang situation. That's not how baseball works.

                              Was this ever in?

I believe that had it in(not in a release version) at least one year and Chris didn't like the way at times when players weren't in the "correct" positions the ball would divert at really odd angles.
I too wish you would see it as sometimes you see the OF'er throw the ball to the base and just know the cut-off man should be taking that throw.

But hand in hand...they'd also have to have batter(using the single with a man on as the situation) take the extra base more. There isn't enough of that now IMO.

I believe it was in one of the early versions and then taken out.

I tend to get my games mixed up over the years but it may have been either HH or MVP (if not the Show) that I remember seeing it last.

What bothers me the most about not having it isn't so much it's basic function of being able to cut it off mid flight but the problem that if I commit to going home from RF from the onset, the AI knows and will advance runners since the cut AI isn't in.
