Honestly unless he's doing some all-star type production you're going to be stuck with Howard with that horrendous contact he has. Also what's Fielders situation is he injured? Because if not the Rangers will surely not look to take on that kind of contract for a backup/spot DH'er. I think Byrd would be more intriguing to them than Howard IF you must include one with Burnett who I think they would be interested in.

Yeah Prince is healthy so they would probably rather take Byrd, who is cheaper and playing better actually, and put him in DH instead of Moreland. Who do you think I could snag from that? I was thinking maybe Luke Jackson/Alex Gonzalez...? Or am I over valuing there?

Also, I just thought of this... how about Lee to the Blue Jays for 1-2 of their amazing pitching prospects and maybe another two low/mid b's or something?(Lee has 2.50 ERA and has 86K's through 87 IP with about a 1 WHIP, pitching like a boss(please let me know if I'm over valuing as well, all ways unsure lol.

I think we all agree with your end point, but what we're saying is that in the moment the trade is made both teams believe they are winning, no matter which way it ends up (you win, you lose, or its neutral) when both sides pull the trigger they BELIEVE they are winning that is why they decide to do it.

Absolutely 100% that both teams BELIEVE they are winning, in any trade. So if both teams believe they are winning, why don't divisional trades happen as often as it should?


My answer: The point I mentioned earlier about not worrying about your player you send, etc. That's all I was really saying. That's the only thing I can think of that makes logical (at least to me) sense on why you shouldn't trade within the division.

Like I've said, I don't agree with being against trading within the division at all. and I've already stated my points on that. I'm a Cubs fan, and just let me say this; I wouldn't be against the Cubs making a trade to any team (even the Cardinals) if it meant bringing the most value back from a player or to get a player. Because at the end of the day, you want to win, not make your fans happy by not trading to a rival or a team you play often.

I'm not against it at all either. There are so many variables to take into account in any trade, decision that it is hard to say that X should never happen or Y is impossible. Was just trying to get a better understanding of why this philosophy is in place across all the major sports.

I just don't understand what the big stir is about all of the sudden.

OP asked what would be fair for Sale. Not realistic, because it's unrealistic that he gets traded in the first place with so many years remaining on his contract.

In my opinion, a large haul of prospects is what it would take to get Sale. At least 3 top 100 prospects, plus 2 of the teams top 10-20 guys. Really, that's the case with any big name player getting traded. We talk about hypothetical Stanton trades all of the time in here, and they all involve a team selling the farm for him. It's no different right now, other than the fact Stanton is an outfielder and Sale is a pitcher.

He brought up the Royals, so I told him what I thought it would take to get him. The Royals probably wouldn't have been my first choice in the trade, but he asked my opinion, and I gave it to him. In that hypothetical deal, it would definitely take Zimmer plus at least four other prospects. I don't think that's too much at all for Sale, even if it included Duffy and Ventura.

I think it's largely my fault. I shouldn't have dismissed the trade as quickly as I did.

After all, this is a video game message board and we're talking about fictional trades 100% of the time here. If I don't think trading for Sale is realistic for the Royals, that's how I want to roll with my franchise. However, if someone is controlling the CWS and wants to imagine a world where the Royals mortgage the farm to get Sale, that's fine and I should definitely help from the Royals point of view as to what they'd "realistically" give up to get Sale.

Yeah I'm mainly going for SP and an OFer to replace Byrd, and ofc 1B(thats for later tho, way more interested in SP)... sounds pretty nice. I'll have to get back to you on stats/injuries as I just got off and have a big fat headache(lol), so I'm gonna go off to sleep. Thanks for the help btw,

This whole conversation has me curious that if the Royals were in the position that was being discussed what move do you think would be a realistic/probable move for them to make?


Just a curious question of mine to see it from the Royals view. As I completely agree with you that any trade of the kind by them would have to leave out Ventura, they love the kid as do I for that matter (he's beautifully helping my fantasy team with those K's) lol.

He's pitching great and I'm sure Toronto would love him. Maybe something like Sanchez + Norris/Tirado + Smith/Nay? Not too sure AC is way better with Toronto than I would be just something I could think of to maybe start the talks?

Lol I know man it's cool. Since Im on here, I NEED a catcher who can hit. Im the Dodgers & I can't hit with AJ Ellis. All prospects are available except for Withrow (Im lights out with him), I just need a catcher that I can pursue later on. Any possibilities that are both realistic & fair?

I like Jason Castro, he has some upside. Kottaras has intriguing pop but idk if he makes enough contact for my liking Lol the rest I see more as backups. I'll probably look into Castro when I get near the deadline Thanks man
