Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
I don't value Kelly all that much. I mean, you could get Kelly back if you wanted to, but the Cards are already dealing a starter, doubt they'd deal another. You could get maybe a prospect back, or you could go for Carlos Martinez rather than Shelby Miller."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Okay now that's way, way unfair.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
Starting up a mets Franchise after the game releases on PS4, so I'm wondering what realistic trades I could do to get rid of some of the pitchers, which there is a surplus of and bring in someone who could add offensively. I was thinking maybe a shortstop like Starlin Castro or someone or maybe an outfielder with speed but who can also hit fairly well. Any ideas and what do you think it would take to get castro.Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
Can't remember the specific players involved (sorry) but in my O's franchise I traded Tommy Hunter (CP rated 79) to the Angels for a backup catcher rated 72, RP Joe Smith, and a utility infielder rated in the low seventies.
Moving ahead I originally planned on trading either Nick Markakis or Michael Cuddyer (picked up via FA) near the trade deadline for a A prospect but now I am having second thoughts. Nick is batting around .300 and still giving me solid defense while Cuddyer has been my MVP at the plate (and versatile). They both only have a year remaining on their contract so I am a bit unsure as to what to do.
I will wait until at least the all star break to make my final decision but it weighs heavily on my mind every time they are at bat.
**To anyone wondering why I would sign Cuddyer when I had Markakis only to turn around and consider trading him, it was something of an accident. I submitted a qualifying offer to Markakis assuming he would find another home. I then signed Cuddyer and 3 days later Nick accepted my offer. oops**Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
A's trade question:
I have an overabundance of arms, both in the rotation and in the pen, and I could easily part with some good ones in exchange for an everyday starter who could upgrade my lineup.
From the rotation I could move Milone, Griffin, or Parker.
From the pen, I could move Johnson or Gregorson.
In the lineup, I have Daric Barton and Eric Sogard playing everyday and could use someone in the IF who can hit. I have tremendous positional versatility, so I could pursue a 3B, moving Donaldson to 1B, a SS, moving Lowrie to 2B, a 2B, moving Sogard to the bench, or a 1B, placing Moss permanently at the DH spot. I could also pursue a full-time DH type, moving Moss to 1 B permanently.
One other option would be finding a way to make Reddick a roll player. I like his fielding capacity, but he is just above average against RHP and is a liability vs. LHP. I would want someone capable with the glove, but perhaps better balanced vs. LHP.
I just feel like winning consistently is too hard with the lineup I currently field, and I really could do without one or more of those arms. I could move Chavez into the rotation, could put Blanton in LR, and could move players like Fernandez, Otero, Pomeranz and even Abad into the pen.
BTW, I'm using SCEA rosters, so suggestions should either be for MLB players, for SCEA minor leaguers, or for minor league "types" whom I could search out using the player search feature with potential ratings judged appropriate by the community.
Thanks!Comment

Tommy Milone to Milwaukee for Aramis Ramirez.
Luke Gregerson and Tommy Milone to the Cubs for Darwin Barney and Nate Schierholtz. Or go big by aiming for Starlin Castro by offering Jarrod Parker, AJ Griffin and Luke Gregerson for Castro/Schierholtz
AJ Griffin to NYM for Ike Davis (or Daniel Murphy). Maybe Parker for both of them. Just throwing out scenarios here.Former modder of "Ultimate Rosters" for MVP Baseball 2005.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
None of these are really fair whatsoever. Milone is a 6th SP, Gregerson is a reliever and Parker is a league average SP. Castro is a shortstop entering his peak with a league average bat and Schierholtz is sneaky valuable. Barney probably has some value. And the Cubs have exactly 0 need for a reliever as a rebuilding team."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

You guys over here are so knowledgeable and helpful--thanks! I like the idea of picking up either Barney or Castro; I had thought about both as potential targets to myself, but I wasn't sure if that would be believable.
While the real A's wouldn't do this just yet, I just can't stomach the lineup I'm fielding for an entire season.
I hadn't thought about the guys on the Mets, but they would be very well served by a third young arm to build around.
In my experience, I can win with both Griffin and Parker, but Griffin labors too much and walks a lot of guys. And Parker, well he's just fine, but I hate his delivery. Totally idiosyncratic, but it feels like he takes forever to deliver the ball and I loathe the days I have to pitch with him.
I'll look into each of these possibilities.Comment

If you want Barney, A.J. Griffin is a solid starting point, and if you want Castro, the starting point is Sonny Gray, no question. Sonny Gray + Josh Reddick/Craig Gentry might be able to get a deal done."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

I'm not sure about stats, but at an 81 OVR w/ B potential, Parker seems like a pretty strong middle-of-the-rotation guy who could even be the #2 on a handful of teams. He always has great stats for me when I use him.
The other two are plus players, with Milone as a nice option as a long-man in the game and Gregorson being a plus addition to most pens, at least as they're rated by OVR in the game.
But you know the real-life scenarios much better than I do.
Are there potential packages or targets out there that would land me an IF who is better than Either Barton or Sogard in your mind?
Thanks in advance!Comment

Of course, you could also pick up Stephen Drew from the FA list."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment
