Well K_Mac beat me to it, yes back then it was alot, as he said B. Bonilla was the highest paid player at 6.3 but in 95, Cecil Fielder was making 9.2 and in 97 A. Belle became the first 10 million dollar man.

Kevin Brown became the first SP to get major money when he got almost 16 million in 2000 from the Dodgers the first sign of true inflation.

But what really started inflated salaries as A-Roid's deal in 2001 when he left Seattle for Texas becoming the first 20 million dollar man.

Yeah.. That's #1 no doubt on our list of questionable moves.
The Brock deal was horrible, but that was a little before my time. I was a Junior in High school in 93 when the Cubs let Maddux go to Atlanta, so that one stung...

Yes we were paying Ryno alot of money at the time (he signed his deal in 92, to become the highest paid player) but even back then the Cubs had money. They could've signed Maddux, but Larry Himes (GM at the time) said Scott Boras was failing to negotiate on good faith (that must've been when it all started for Boras) and instead the Cubs signed Jose Guzman, Dan Plesac and I want some Candy Maldonado..

Wow those 3 turned out great for us...

        I was negative, lol.

I would be negative in the last year the Jays were good. Sigh.

          Mariners franchise.
I need a catcher. Mike Zunino is hitting .117 and Jesus Sucre is hitting .062 through the first month of the season. I offered Zunino for Derek Norris of the A's. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but Oakland agreed to the deal. Should I get more for Zunino than just Norris? Norris is hitting .277 BTW.

Also offered Zunino to the Reds for Meseraco they also agreed to that.

Blue Jays were pretty dominating back in my High School years, but growing up in Idaho, it was pretty hard to get excited about a team playing in Canada.

I grew up watching the Cubs on WGN and of course with Seattle being the closest MLB franchise, they were the first team I ever saw live until we took a family vacation to visit my cousins who lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin and went to a Twins game and a Brewers game.

I still have never been to Wrigley but I have gone down to Arizona several times to watch the Cubs and D-Backs, but someday I would love to make a trip to Chicago..

2 years ago I was at a Mariners game and met a husband and wife who were both teachers from the Boston area, and they were taking their summer off to go and visit every MLB park. That would be a pretty sweet summer vacation.

Don't give up on Zunino especially in April..

I understand your pain, "Z" hasn't been great for me so far in my Franchise (I just finished the regular season and he hit .215 with 6 HR and 30 RBI), but he is only 22 year old a very good defensive catcher who has power..

You need to deal for a veteran guy who can take the pressure off him to hit right away. That's why the M's signed John Buck.

Personally if it was me I would look at G. Laird (it's who I picked up) or R. Doumit from Atlanta, or G. Kottaras (lefty) or maybe bring back K. Suzuki from the Twins.

Question. Why would the other team do this? They'd be swapping catchers. Lateral move or worse.

Send down Zunino and trade for a guy like..

Hey AC, I'm going to check out Norris and Pompey tonight in Binghamton. Want me to relay any messages? haha

Yeah the only SS I was going to say that is even close to Tulo's abilities is Hanley. After that there isn't much, SS isn't really a power position.

There really aren't any SSs that I'd put anywhere near Tulo.

A healthy Tulo is certainly in a class of his own.

I'll try and grab some video of Norris pitching AC, just depends on where I'll be sitting. I'm gonna try to get behind home plate and if that happens I'll get a few videos.

I went ahead and did the following:
                        Sent Zunino to AAA
                        DFA Sucre
Purchased Humberto Quintero's contract and called him up.
Signed George Kottaras to play vs righties and Quintero vs lefties.

                        We'll see if this works.

Yup that's what I figured. Gotta wait for the next generation that could produce power hitting SS

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Tampa Bay (29-36 6.5 GB) offers 2B Ben Zobrist to Texas Rangers (31-32, 7.0 GB) for SS Luis Sardinas & 2B Rougned Odor. Pretty typical prospects-for-one-year-of-near-superstar package.

The Rangers currently have Jurickson Profar (79 OVR, A POT) and Utilityman Josh Wilson (60 OVR, D POT) on the DL but both are set to come off within a week or two. Josh Wilson was batting .187 in 112 ABs. Donnie Murphy (75 OVR, C POT) has played the majority of the Rangers' games at 2B, hitting .230/.295/.383 with a .959 Fielding%.

Luis Sardinas is labeled a Top-50 Prospect at SS with an "A" Potential and a .292/.345/.416 line in AA, 7 SBs, .975 Fielding%. Rougned Odor is a "B" Potential 2B with a .313/.389/.417 line in AAA with 4 SB, 2 HR, and a .981 Field%.

Ben Zobrist is Ben Zobrist. He's got one year left on his contract, making $11.1 M.

The Rangers' 2014 Team Budget is set at $139 M, with $10.3 M available right now. The Rays' 2014 Team Budget is set at $116 M, with $10.1 M available right now.

I'm inclined to let the computer decide if it wants to make this trade rather than reject it outright, as I have the majority of the (admittedly small number of) trades it has proposed this year.

What say the sages of the Trade Discussion Thread?

At the All star break and looking to get rid of a floundering Billy Butler (under 10 HR's & under .220). So far I've found a trade which I'm not sure if its fair to both sides or not:

                                Royals get:

                                Jean Segura
                                Tyler Thornburg
                                Brandon Kintzler

                                Brewers get:

                                Alcidis Escobar
                                Billy Butler
