Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Here is the trade I am hoping to pull as we get halfway through the season.

(Earlier in the season the Twins made a trade to pull in SP, Carlos Martinez from the Cardinals... He has gone 0-9 this season with a 5.87 ERA and 78 Ks with 37 BBs)

    Indians Get -
SP, Carlos Martinez (High B) - with stats posted above -
Martinez has a ton of potential, but I highly doubt that he'd like to stick around Minnesota as he is in the final year of his contract. We have a solid rotation but really need to improve the back end of it with a potential game changer like Martinez rather than who we have currently.

    3B, Trevor Plouffe (High C) - .221 Avg, 5 HR, 23 RBI -
With Chisenhall out for the season we are not having luck with our backups filling the void. We need someone that is proven and can step in for the rest of the season and maybe longterm if Chisenhall can't stay healthy. At 27 and in the final year of his contract Plouffe fits nicely into that role for us.

CF, Eddie Gonzalez (66 OVR, B Potential) -
He is batting .210 in AAA and can play any OF position which is huge as we have already lost Michael Bourn to injury once this season.

    Twins Get -
SP, Zach McAllister (High C) - 3-2 with 38 Ks and 19 BBs. He had a rough start to the season and we moved him to AAA for a month before we needed him to come back in mid-June. He has won a couple games but isn't really what we see in the future of our rotation.

    1B, Nick Swisher (Mid-B/Low-B) -
.284 Avg with 9 HR and 33 RBI. Swisher hasn't been starting much this season and has been a nice pinch hitter, but with our 1B situation as deep as it is, he never really plays as much as he arguably should. He will be a great DH/1B as the Twins only really have Mauer to fill that role.

3B, Michael Culver - (65 OVR, A potential) - He was moved up from AAA to cover for Chisenhall and hasn't produced enough for us to keep him around. His.190 Avg. and 7 RBI in two months of playing are disappointing and we feel he might be better elsewhere.

Player (potential letter grade, age, overall, potential overall)
      David Wright (A, 31, 88, 90)

      Cubs offer ...
      2B Arismendy Alcantara (B, 22, 76, 81)
      RF Jorge Soler (B, 25, 68, 86)
      SP Pierce Johnson (B, 22, 66, 88)

      Dodgers offer ...
      LF Joc Pederson (B, 21, 72, 86)
      SP Julio Urias (A, 18, 69, 91)
      3B Corey Seager (B, 19, 65, 84)

Royals offer (I'd have to throw in OF Kevin Kiermaier to make this work) ...
      1B Eric Hosmer (A, 24, 81, 90)
      SP Kyle Zimmer (A, 22, 70, 93)
      SS Raul Mondesi (A, 18, 62, 91)

      Diamondbacks offer ...
      SP Archie Bradley (A, 21, 73, 96)
      SP Braden Shipley (A, 22, 68, 91)
      3B Brandon Drury (B, 21, 68, 85) or LF Mark Trumbo (B, 28, 81, 81) or RP David Hernandez (A 28, 79, 90)

      Orioles offer ...
      SP Dylan Bundy (A, 21, 71, 95)
      SP Hunter Harvey (A, 19, 62, 93)
      3B Matt Davidson (B, 22, 69, 87) or C Miguel Gonzalez (B, 23, 63, 86)
I would say just pick whatever you want because most people in this thread aren't going to like any of those deals due to them being very unrealistic and unfair.

I think you might have D. Wright valued a little high. Is this a '14 season and what is he hitting?

Take Gonzalez and Swisher out and sub in a development lefty from CLE. Nick being in the deal makes it a little...eh.

Joc Pederson and a low B prospect for Wright seems fair.

I was also thinking Trumbo + Delgado from ARZ.

However, the OP should get back at least the value that was given. Even a twice traded D. Wright has significant value. What did you give for him?

The Dodgers could use a really good 3B so I can see them giving up Pederson+ for Wright. He might want more for him though.

I like Pederson+ more as a package than Trumbo.

In my eyes, not much really. I gave up 1B James Loney, 3B Richie Shaffer and SS Tim Beckham. Again, he was on the trading block and his contract is massive. I assumed it was more of a salary dump by the Mets than anything since they are 41-48, 7GB in the NL East.

Wow, down on A.F. tonight. You know Franklin is a local kid, he's gonna sell 10 more tickets a game...himself, door to door. After they call him up from the minors...

I'm lusting over the Dodgers offer, but I know its so unrealistic.
Like the Diamondbacks but I think Trumbo might be a free agent at the end of the season.

The Dodgers won't give up Urias or Seager. That's the only unrealistic part. Oh, and that Wright is getting dealt also lol.
Pederson is a good young player, see if you can do that deal. Add another low B spect though

                              First, here is the setup....

I am using the Indians and I am leading the AL Central around 6.5 games up on the Royals. There are quite a few surprising teams struggling (the Tigers are 16 games below .500, for example).

Other teams are in fire sale mode (The Yankees have had Sabathia, A-Rod and others on the trading block).

                              The Question
Does it 'violate' the idea of realism if the track of the Franchise Mode dictates that some teams might be 'buyers' or 'sellers' when their real life counter-parts are not?
Not at all. In fact, if you made a struggling team like the Tigers go all in at the trade deadline for upgrades, that would be even less realistic. Certainly, it would be nice if all the standings were similar to IRL to make this easier, but ultimately your situation in the game will dictate who should do what. That is my take.

EDIT: As long as Ruben Amaro Jr is doing whatever is opposite to the sensible thing to do, it's realistic.
