Also, a .651 OPS in Marlins park = 80 wRC+. That with plus defense is a very good player.

Assuming he could put up a .651 OPS going forward. Last season, it was .550. Is he a .650+ OPS hitter?

Even if he really is good and the Marlins for whatever reason don't know how to position him (how can you take a player and position him so badly that he's worth negative defensive runs when he's a good defensive player?) - what would account for his -28 wRAA in 2013? Even this year it's -6.8. -28 is probably some "Bad luck" but is -6.8 is actual ability?

I don't know if he's "SS of the future". Maybe not terrible, but not exactly irreplaceable.

Isn't 2 WAR about average - and that's if they figure out how to position him right?

ZiPS has him at 74 true talent RoS.

Was I arguing that his bat was good? In all likelihood he's a 70-80 wRC+ bat.

I wasn't the one that called him that.

I'm more than willing to take a cost controlled league average shortstop. That's a young, cheap Jose Reyes.

Could I realistically get him from the Marlins? What would it take if so?

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Hey guys. I have been looking around my Sox 'chise and making some minor/realistic trades, and came upon the O's. I saw Gausman wasn't in the rotation. I saw Steve Johnson was.. Johnson has a 1.90 ERA and 123 strikeouts in 94 innings.... I'm wondering about your guys opinions... realistically there is no shot this keeps up... The O's currently have a four game lead and I wanted to get Gausman in the rotation(he has to get in their eventually, so someone needs to be traded eventually). I'm thinking of trading Johnson to a team who could use a starter(this guy is the best in the league right now!) and was thinking I could go out and maybe get the O's a pure hitter or 2B to help a playoff push... I'm curious if you guys think the O's would trade Johnson with those stats for high value(knowing it won't keep up) or keep him and the current crew and leave Gausman in the bullpen. If you think they would what do you think are some teams that could use him? If needed I can post some of the standings and more stats... thanks!

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Getting ready to start Year 2 of my M's Franchise. I struck out in Free Agency and wasn't able to land N. Cruz or Billy Butler and I let Corey Hart walk despite his 48 HR's and 142 RBI's because I felt like I couldn't commit the kind of money he deserved after putting up those #'s so he went back to Milwauee to play 1B.

I ended up making the real life trades for Austin Jackson and also signed Denorfia for this season.

I also needed a backup C, which was a struggle last year, so I signed G. Soto but he hit .189 this spring leaving me to wonder if he will be the answer.

The Padres signed both R. Hanigan (78/C) and E. Kratz (75/C) and currently have them as backups to Grandal (81/B) with A. Hedges (69/A) in AAA.

Grandal hit .273 last year with 16 HR and 63 RBI.

Might thoughts are add Grandal to the M's and have him and "Z" rotate between C and DH.

The Padres rotation is the same as last year (Kennedy, Luebke, Cashner and J. Johnson as their 1-4, with T. Ross 10-11 4.46 ERA as their #5).

My thoughts are trade E. Ramirez (82/B) and M. Saunders (76/C) plus throw in J. Sucre (65/D) as Soto will likely end up in AAA as my starting Catcher and the Padres could use Sucre in AAA to replace Hedges when he gets promoted.

Ramirez should be able to challenge Ross for the #5 and Saunders would be a upgrade for the Padres #4 OF spot over S. Smith (70/C) and could take over RF for W. Venable now that Denorfia is on the M's.

            I am looking for fairness.

Not enough for Grandal. Those are kinda meh pieces.

I could add D. Farquhar (79/C) who had 4 saves and a 2.74 ERA for me last year as my setup role for Rodney. He had 16 saves in real life for the M's in 2013 so he could be used a a CP option for the Padres. Rating wise he would be the Padres 3rd best RP behind A. Torres (81/B) and H. Street (84/B) who resigned with the Padres in the off-season

or I could swap out Ramirez for a younger SP with more upside like E. Diaz (70/B) who is only 20, so he could stay in AAA for a couple years until 1 of the Padres current 5 man rotation either moves on or gets old.

Well, you already have my opinion fwiw. With nothing at SS to back Hech up with, I don't see any realism here. But, if you want him that badly, just go for it. Spreadsheet something out for starters.

Reyes went down for 2 months in my franchise. Kawa has been hitting .194 in the first week he has been filling in so went out to get some short term relief.

Cubs had Barney otb he was hitting .241 with little to no RBI/HR so I sent them Jonathan Diaz and a low C SS from single A. Fair?

He's played 2B most of this year. He's had 10 errors in 44 games so I don't know if I want him playing SS lol.
