Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik has exasperated many trade partners with his negotiating style, executives tell Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Those execs say the M’s frequently inquire on a number of players, only to shift direction when a deal appears within reach. That’s not unusual for teams to do, but rival officials say Jack Z has become one of the most difficult GMs in the sport with whom to do business. In a lengthy email to FOX Sports, the Mariners GM responded by saying that the in-and-out nature of his trade conversations are typical of those that occur throughout the industry. Meanwhile, other teams are confused by the club’s recent acquisition of Kendrys Morales given the way Zduriencik has intimated that the club has limited financial breathing room
Had to post this for any of you want to work out deals with the M's.... The life of a M's fan. Getting to say what if, when a trade doesn't go down, and what the **** when something does like the haunted H. Slocumb deal of 1997.. Still regarded as one of the worst trades in baseball history

How could you not like Heathcliff Slocumb? Next you'll be saying you didn't appreciate Paul Assenmacher or Shawn Boskie. What up wit dat?

However, in the game, you can pretty much trade for Wil Myers with ANYONE I tested it with a 2B with a 48 potential in the Phillies organization and it would have been accepted. Just horrible. It definitely shows how flawed the trade logic is.
This is the only type of deal that could save Ruben... God I'm worried about this deadline because he should not be in charge of a rebuild. He will end up trading Hamels for a bag of balls and some diamond dry or something.

The guys are right you have to give up a TON for these kind of players and then it's up to you to decide if it's worth it or not. I think both deals you put are fair.

I would caution that in the first Phillies franchise I did on the show this year, I did a 2014 deadline overhaul which netted me Pederson, Urias, and Seager from the Dodgers.(This was before Seager was tearing it up in real life, they wouldn't give all 3 of these guys in a deal now) The next offseason I traded JP Crawford, Maikel Franko, Urias, Pederson, and Jesse Biddle (who is a B that went to an A in OSFM, I saw him pitch in Binghamton this year and he gave up 10 earned runs in 2 innings, so he isn't realistically this highly rated anymore) to get Stanton. That was 4 A players and a high B player. It decimated my farm.

Was it fun to have Stanton in the 3 hole in my lineup? Absolutely. But when Howard, Utley, Rollins and the rest badly regressed and I didn't have any pitching because I dealt Hamels to the Dodgers in that trade listed above I had nothing. So while I agree it would be awesome to have Tulo on the Mets, I'd think long and hard about if you really want to give up 4-5 top prospects for one player.

In all fairness to Biddle, he's going through some stuff. He's still got potential.

Yeah I'm aware, I wasn't writing him off just saying that his potential in game as an A probably doesn't synch up with real life at the moment.

Yeah that's what I'm worried about. Because that Tulo deal is almost half my farm. I'm not really worried about my team as a whole regressing. I'm more worried about Tulo regressing because superstars regress quickly and easily through out the show years.

I would just stick to the Cargo deal but I'm truly looking for a great hitting SS with power . If I can find that. I won't go after Tullo

If it helps I played 3 seasons with the Rockies in this years version of the show and he didn't regress. He was still far and away my best hitter and his stats held up pretty well. I know that's not the entire contract duration, but he didn't regress too quickly.

I agree those were not great deals either, but at least the Cubs have come out on top on a few of their deals.

How about Derek Lee for Hee-Seop Choi and K. Lofton and A. Ramirez for Bobby Hill and Jose Hernandez.

Those deals worked out pretty good for the Cubs.

Not saying the Cubs havn't made a bunch of bone head moves over the years.

Not resigning Maddux in 93. Ranks #1 in my opinion. Crazy to think that coming off a 20 win season he only got 28 million over 5 years, and even more so when you factor in that he played for 15 years after that 20 win season with the Cubs and followed it up with 20 wins the next year with the Braves and had 4 different years in which he won 19 with the Braves

Yeah that's a bit reassuring. I'm also nervous about my budget. In order to get him I would be taking on 154m and 20plus per year so that kinda hurts me for the current offseason and future ones. If there was a SS that could hit even close to Tulo in terms of power I would get that person but I think Tulo is in a class of his own when it comes to power from the SS position isn't he ?

Yeah.. That's #1 no doubt on our list of questionable moves.

                          Yes.

In 1993 the average MLB salary was$1,120,254.

The highest paid player in 93 was Bobby Bonilla, making $6,200,000. Everything I'm reading is saying that Maddux was the highest paid player actually playing in the MLB.

Considering that we were paying Ryne Sandberg a ton of money at the same time, I can understand if we didn't have the funds to do it. In hindsight, it doesn't look like a bad deal, but it was so much money then. Contracts are ridiculous now.

I would say yes. The only others I would say are close to his power in the MLB are Ian Desmond and JJ Hardy (in a usual year, not this year), and I guess Hanley and maybe Peralta. But Tulo is a much better hitter than all of them and has much more power upside in my opinion.

Hey AC, I'm going to check out Norris and Pompey tonight in Binghamton. Want me to relay any messages? haha
