Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Meh, Quintana made fangraphs top 50 list for trade value. Profar did not. Profar hasn't performed. He is also showing to be injury prone. His value is at an all time low. No doubt in my mind that Quintana has more market value right now. My only issue is whether TEX would want to get what they can out of him now or gamble and ride it out hoping he builds up value again.

I'm not going to do it anyways. Can't find an acceptable trade with Alexei and 2B is looking fine. BOS needs SP really bad. They have Bucholz, Shields, and bleh. Trying to gauge WMB, Swihart, Craig, Cespedes and how that might fit Quintana if his spring don't go well because I prefer FB/SL/CH types rather than the Uncle Charlie.

Profar is 21, Quintana is 25. Youngest active player in the majors. I'm pretty sure the kid will build up his value again. It would pretty dumb of them to sell low on him, when they could trade his potential as part of a package for a higher-tier lefty than even Quintana (Hamels, anybody?).

Besides, re-injuring his shoulder this year is the only time I can find that he's been hurt. There's a reason they kept him over Kinsler, consider trading Andrus, start him over Odor/Sardinas/etc.

I think trading Quintana for Cespedes would be a real solid move for you. An OF of Garcia/Eaton/Cespedes is pretty solid. I think you could squeeze in Middlebrooks also if you're not sold on Gillaspie and Davidson. If not WMB, perhaps a prospect or a bullpen arm along with Yoenis.

How do you guys balance out the budget inequalities between the game and real life? I play with the Braves, and we would have no problem re-signing Hayward because it doesn't take in the bloated salaries of BJ and Uggla.

          Any ideas?

Really need LHH though. Didn't realize Profar's injury was to his shoulder. Not looking good for that kid then. That sucks. That ruined Kemp for a # of years. Profar is a switch hitter but maybe he can bat one-sided until he learns to use that shoulder again?

Ugglas is easy. Sign a bad FA to his contract to replicate. Upton, try releasing and resigning? Otherwise, do it in your head or on paper.

I've done that before, just wondering if others are doing the same, as anyone saved a roster/franchise file with some of these bad salaries saved in?

The other option, I think Knight came up with it, is to fire coaches and re-hire them to big contracts to eat up the difference.

Yeah so I traded both Uptons for Kyle Calhoun and Gordon Beckham, and a low end C prospect SP. Angels had the budget room, I needed a stopgap 2nd baseman and Calhoun has 3 years of team control.

Up to date rosters, curious if a Joey Gallo for Joc Pederson type deal could happen. Anything need to be added to either side or a fair swap for each?

I know how much you dislike Gallo, but Texas thinks very, very highly of him, and rightfully so. Straight up it's not a fair deal, as Gallo is more valuable than Pederson. More pieces will have to be added if you are looking for just fairness.

I disagree and this is a truly interesting thought.

Pedersen has a higher floor and TEX has a present need for OF while LAD certainly does not. Gallo has a higher ceiling - but also more risk and his value is all future value which must be discounted (He is still a couple years out, right? Not completely certain on his timeline). This all accounts for the differences in ceilings (and some might value the higher floor more anyways). This is a rare prospect for prospect swap I could see. I think LAD is more interested in moving Ethier/Crawford, though.

I just looked at MLB.com's list and Gallo's ETA is 2016.

I can't see it being a "realistic" trade because you never see 2 top 20 prospects being traded for each other. IDK if the OP is looking for realism or just fairness.

Was just an interesting thought that came to me, so with Andre, Crawford, and Kemp who should I trade? Kemp to Padres was seen as possible today but am having trouble on a reasonable package.

I can't think of any because I am factoring in realism and the Padres don't want a young prospect coming to mash them in the future. But I am hearing that the deal would be built around Grandal. This is obviously for Kemp. And to be honest he is the most likely to go because he has the most value besides Puig and Pederson.

                                Hmm okay.

So out of Andre, Crawford, Kemp, and hell lets throw in Joc as well who do you think would get traded? I can always use the spreadsheet for values and give or take on them, but just wanting some opinions on a team and for which player.
