San Fran doesn't have pieces that interest me so I'm sending him off to Cleveland along with some other pieces that'll add them 4-5 wins.
To be honest if Dickey was a free agent I probably wouldn't even sign him haha. I would rather give my younger players experience.

Well if Johnson stays in the minors then that makes sense but if he ends up pitching then I would like to include him.

Yes but most likely he stays down in Single-A

Also, do you guys think Holland, Alfaro, Gallo and Hanson is okay for Bautista? Mid A, Low A, High B is the value, and I don't think I'm getting more than two high B's, a mid B and a mid C with this.
I'm no Padres expert (and don't even play one on TV :wink but I do think Wisler can be had. However, I don't think any R.A. Dickey package is going to get it done. Think highly-touted spect for spect trade like Rizzo-Cashner and you're more on the right path. SD has no reason to burn spects for guys closer to AARP than to MiLB days (AARP = American Association for Retired Persons for all you Canadians out there, lol). And if Wisler is half as good as he might be (which, tbh, is why you want to deal for him anyway amirite?), he'd be glorious at Petco.

As for your Rangers trade, I do think it's fair. My only minor hangup is a very nuanced realism issue, and that's Jon Daniels possibly being a little gun shy about doing those big multi-prospect deals for aging vets (ala Garza). He might worry about what trading a guy like Gallo and his 40 HRs last year would look like to your average Joe Ranger Fan. BUT, if the Rangers are in contention, dealing some good prospects for 2 years and $28MM worth of Joey Bats is something he'd seriously have to consider. (By the way, how about Bautista's start to 2014? Dude is MASHING! 8 HRs, 20 Ks, and 29 BBs with a .470 OBP...dat OPS+ too...)

The Padres traded Rizzo because 1.) He was a leftie hitting in Petco and 2.) They had Yonder Alonso trying to get in also.

Also the Red Sox GM drafted Rizzo, he then became the GM of SD and traded for Rizzo, then he moved to be to GM for the Cubs and took Rizzo again. So it's not like they just blatantly traded him.

In real life the Padres wouldn't trade Wisler unless someone over payed A LOT. They have no reason to trade their major league ready top pitching prospect.

Perfect response, always nice to get a neutral party, even if you ARE a Cubs fan.

I think I'll stay away from Wisler in that case. I'm just targeting Headley at this point, for Osuna and Davis, but contingent on a 4 year, $60m extension or something along the lines.

Re: Bautista. Ew, OPS+. wRC+ is what the cool kids use. But the Rangers offered Ian Kinsler and Derek Holland for Bautista, which is apparently Fielder + Cash + Holland, and I think that's a FAR superior package to what I'm getting. Daniels may seem gun shy but he's made formal offers on Bautista and Edwin many times post Garza. He loves them. He ain't getting Edwin but this is pretty solid realism wise imo. I doubt Daniels would ever turn this down. Also, I'm giving them Lind to shift Moreland to the bench, so I doubt they'd turn that down.

Thinking of trading Buehrle to the Mariners for two back end of the top 10 prospects; One of Hultzen/Diaz/Sanchez and then one of Taylor/Guerrero (probably Taylor). I like the idea tbh.

they may do it for the combination of hultzen and taylor, but buehrle age is a big concern. hultzen is close to being considered a bust for a first rounder, and taylor is a victim of depth at position. if they are in competition for the division it would be more possible.

Beuhrle does carry value though in that he is an innings eater, and is extremely durable. That goes a long way in trade value.

true, but he is also at the back end if not the very end of his career. they have innings guys in hernandez and when iwakuma comes back which shouldnt be too much longer. for Seattle they would only be looking for a buerhle is for a playoff race. in my opinion

plus i am not saying they wouldnt want him, just not at a high price.

Quick thought about how y'all can help us keep the spreadsheet updated. When a guy is added to the 40-man roster and he's not in the spreadsheet, please make a post that player X needs to be added.

For example, today the Dodgers are adding SP Red Patterson to their 40 man roster and he wasn't in the sheet but now I've added him. Same thing with Scott Carroll of the White Sox a couple of days ago. Wasn't in the spreadsheet but now he is.

Adding guys along the way during the season will save time over the winter.

When I wrote that post I must have misinterpreted what you said.

Even with the extension, that's an overpay. You can get him for less or get more out of it.

I'm okay with this though. I'm trying to clear out prospects. Although I might keep Osuna, as I like him, and downgrade the pitching prospect a bit.
