Just started 2015 and the reds in their infinite wisdom signed Billy Butler in the off season to play first base. They still have Votto. Is it fair of me to trade one of these guys off their team? Which one should I send packing? I assume Butler.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
Playing my cubs franchise....Would it be realistic or fair to send Samardzija to Baltimore in a trade centered around Dylan Bundy. Playing out the Bundy TJ comeback like real life as he didn't make his first starts until early July in my game. Its late July in my first year and Baltimore is 1.5 games behind Boston with no one else within 6 games. Any ideas on how to pull this off or should I just look elsewhere?
No Bundy is 100 percent untouchable unless you are offering an elite player along the lines of Price, Lee, etc. Shark is good but not elite and Bundy's value has slightly diminished but Bundy was the best pitching prospect in baseball before his injury and I know the Orioles are eager to get him backComment

I'd look at Texas, if you're playing out injuries like in real life, because Matt Harrison is looking at having another back surgery and Martin Perez is out with an elbow injury of his own. Other places to look would be Toronto, New York, Boston (if they have an injury, or need SP help), and this may sound crazy, but if the Rockies are in contention they may be suitors too.
I read a piece a few days ago about the Rockies making a push and going after Samardzija. Obviously, the Cubs would want back Jon Gray and Eddie Butler, and I doubt they would be super anxious to ship their top two prospects away. But, it's a need, and if they're in contention, it could work. We've definitely seen crazier things happen.Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
Welcome Chef! Great to have you
In regards to the player values, check out the 2nd tab/sheet of the file. There's a breakdown on how to read the values.
First name that came to mind for your OF/IF bat search was Chris Heisey. Strictly an OF'er but he's got 20-25 HR pop with a full time gig. Utility guys that can play both OF/IF are Steve Lombardozzi (BAL) and Leury Garcia (CWS)
Edit: Charlie Culberson of the Rockies should be able to play your required positions as well. Don't know if he has them all listed in the game though
Thanks for that clarification. I was under the impression it was ratings based and didn't even consider that it was more about a players potential. So let's say you want to trade, for example, SP Ryu in LA for Zobrist in TB, what type of guideline would you use to dictate the authenticy of that trade outside of team position in the standings, current contract situation, stats etc? I guess I'm curious if this table can be used in a way to also trade veterans for veterans instead of just including prospects in the deal one way or the other. I could be completely midunderstanding how this works and if that's the case feel free to set me straight.Comment

Here's an example of a realistic trade for anyone who cares.
Kyle Blanks of the Padres traded to Athletics.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
Billy would be furious if he was on the bench that much, thus he'd never sign with a team like the Reds unless he was promised a starting job and with Votto, there's no way that would happen."Baseball is the coolest sport because, at any moment, the catcher can stop the game and go tell the pitcher a secret" - Rob FeeComment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
Ahh got it, didn't think to look at page 2 for some unknown reason. Just so I'm accurate, the values then are more based on potential and this is more for trading prospects for established players or vise versa and not really intended on breaking down trades that are established player for established player basically?

I agree that Zobrist seems a bit high with a value of a Low A and a low B. Could be that we've rated him that way to make him somewhat untouchable given how much Tampa and Maddon values him. Should probably be more lkíke a High B and a Low B (like Ryu)Former modder of "Ultimate Rosters" for MVP Baseball 2005.

You can use the spreadsheet either way you like. Veteran <> Veteran. Prospect <> Prospect. Veteran <> Prospect.

I'd like to consider him a High C now if he's producing in the game like he is IRL. If not, he's a Mid C.Former modder of "Ultimate Rosters" for MVP Baseball 2005.

Yes! Thank you for bringing this up again. Forgot to reply to you - my apologies! I've updated McGehee so that he'll be on the Marlins in the next release of the spreadsheet.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
What do you guys think of Rockies prospect Trevor Story?
In my franchise, the Rockies are in need of a relief pitcher, after injuries to LaTroy Hawkins (out half the season) and Matt Belisle.
I'm the Philies, and I have a a few relievers who have mid/low C trade value. Story's in the mid to low C range in the game, so I was thinking about getting him in return.
Is that fair? I ask because Story (correct me if I'm wrong) used to be one of the Rockies top prospects. Did he fall off that much, or is a little bit of potential still there? He's still young, and I could move him to 2B since I already have J.P. Crawford.Comment

Look elsewhere, the Orioles aren't going to part with Bundy or Gausman anytime soon.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
Realistically, I agree with you that it shouldn't happen. The Cubs' asking price for Samardzija is crazy high, but in the end (at the deadline) I believe someone will overpay for him, although it may not be that much.Comment
