I finished with the Phillies last night 79-83 . I was three games out of the last wildcard spot but the Nats ran away with it and Braves ended up beating the A's in the Series. I am looking to get some young up and coming players and move on from the old, large contracts if I can help it...

Interested to see if anyone has any suggestions!

        Spoiler

Catcher Brian McCan earns HR Derby entry.

McCan went on to beat Yonder Alonso.

Tanaka wins the start for the AS team, beating out Verlander who is also in the CY Young race.

        B. Gardner gets an AS honor, goes 0-1 with 2 SB, 2 runs.

        McCan goes deep.

        D. Robertson enters the game, giving up 1 BB. Runners on 2nd and 3rd, 3-5 AL.

(Ellsbury also got a bench spot but some glitch made him have crazy face)
Damn! Our All-Star selections were nearly identical! LOL!

Idk why but Gardner is fire for me every franchise I play in the MLB series. After the ASB, he went deep 3 games in a row vs the Reds. I believe he only had 2 up until that point. He's hitting .305 I think (highest on the team. After him it's like .275). Might have taken a dip during the Rangers series though.

It might be "cheese", but whenever I don't see that 3B playing the bunt I'm putting one down. Idk why either because he makes solid contact, but I just figure the high contact players can bring someone home, or that a safety is better than a ground ball that could potentially keep my guy on third.

I've been playing some small ball. :/

I've been know to try the bunt hit too.

Gardner's killing it with me too. He's second on the team at .285. Ellsbury leads us at .292.

Third place? I think McCann is like .258 or something? LOL!

Ha! Ellsbury was crushing for me up until end of June going into July. He had an AS start locked up but dropped his BA to >.270. Trout had like a .250 BA all season and he must have hit a stride in June-July because he's at .277, 15 HR, 47 RBI. He's .447 in his last 10.

              K. Johnson was > .200 but end of June into July he heated up, he's only at .224 but .343 in his last 10 with 2 HR, 6 RBI. B. Roberts just came back from a broken leg so hopefully Johnson can be more useful coming off the bench.

Roberts is hitting an inflated .291, 86 AB, went 0-3 his first game back, and in his second appearance was a double away from the cycle.

He came back just in time. I don't think his hitting will last once he's playing everyday. I'm contemplating just playing KJ and limiting Roberts play to avoid injury incase we do make a playoff trip which is looking likely with weak play in the division.

I reworked the rotation after the ASB based off performance. I'm running:
              1. CC
              2. Tanaka
              3. Pineda
              4. nova
              5. Kuroda

Vidal Nuno, and Thornton have been beast for me in the BP but that's about it, outside of Robertson.

I'm trying to avoid trades because this FA should be promising.

I didn't draft by need but more so best talent on board. I hit gold with my first selection in a 3B. He's 6'3, 199 LB. Sky is the limit with 20 HR power, solid contact and a great arm. He could be MLB ready next season. Solarte is playing 'decent' and he's inexpensive. I don't plan on spending Yankee money, but rather keeping a 'cap' and starting to grow talent. I won't let a gem pass me though, but hoping to not send the bank to 33+ year old players.

Villain, you can add me on PSN if you want. eF-5ive. Goodluck in your 'chise! Post some updates!

I just got internet at the house (first time ever) but still don't have a wi-fi router yet. I'll be sure to add you when I get up and running (if I don't it means I forgot so remind me).

Robertson has been terrible with me. ERA just shy of 7.00 if I recall. He was nearly sent back to AAA until I decided to trade for Marmol to be my set up man. Aceves is now my closer and Robertson and Thornton platoon the 7th.

Roberts missed almost a month with me too! Leg problems!

I'll have to get a recap for everyone. At least some basic stats and standings. Although my team ERA is near 3.81, my starters are all probably over performing thanks to having spent half of my season on the slightly-too-easy Default All-Star (Classic/Timing/QC's only).

Made some adjustments not long ago so things are starting to balance out. However, when I was on Default, my starters seemed a little too strong while my bullpen seemed a little too weak. Now it's more leveled out though.

                I'll update you guys soon.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

I'm playing as the Mariners, obviously.

I'm at the ASB, and surprisingly, I've played every game this far. I've never done this far, or at least stuck with it this long before. We are 53-42

Cano and Seager have been key to our success thus far. Cano is the leading AL MVP cantidate, he's hitting somewhere around .350+ and has a leads the league in RBIs. Seager is hitting .290-ish with about 15 HRs and 65 RBIs

Felix and Fernando Rodney have been dominant, and Felix was the AL starter for the ASG.

                  Our All-Stars:
                  Felix, Cano, Seager, & Rodney

My starting line up/rotation/bullpen (when everyone is healthy):

                  CF James Jones
                  RF Willie Bloomquist/Endy Chavez
                  2B Cano
                  DH Corey Hart
                  3B Seager
                  1B LoMo/Smoak
                  C Zunino
                  LF Ackley/Saunders
                  SS Brad Miller

                  Bench:
                  C Sucre

                  Rotation:
                  Felix
                  Iwakuma
                  Erasmo Ramirez
                  Roenis Elias
                  Chris Young

                  Bullpen:
                  LR Lucas Luetge
                  MR Yoervis Medina
                  MR Farquhar
                  MR Wilhelmsen
                  MR Furbush
SU Joe Beimel (been really successful)
                  CL Rodney

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

I gave up on my Astros franchise. It felt artificial with all the minor league players I had and there were some SCEA guys on my team. I think I signed them as FA's after the draft period. I also called up guys I drafted way too early and unrealistically.

I found a team that I am absolutely in love with: the Pittsburgh Pirates. I'm six games into the first season and having a blast. Their roster composition is ideal for what I like to do. They have a solid outfield and some other serviceable veterans. I made the move for Ike Davis and Ernesto Frieri to mirror real life. I started Polanco in the bigs and he'll have a rivalry with Oscar Tavares of STL for years and years.

On the hill they have Cole and some decent other guys. Bullpen is solid but nothing stands out as amazing.

I'm 4-2 so far winning 2/3 against CHC & STL. The stadium is beautiful, the jerseys are crisp, and the minor league system is stocked.

Getting to battle with the Cards for the NL Central is going to be a blast.

All Star game done with. AL win 5-4. Up 5-0 until the 7th when CarGo hit a grand slam, had the bases loaded in the 8th as well but Holland got a K on Dom Brown.

I agree with all of this. The Pirates are a great choice if you don't have a favorite team, or just want to try something new and different.

I've thrown them around as a possible team to play with on the side, but haven't gotten started on anything yet. I like their young outfield a ton. Alvarez and Walker are solid, Davis is a favorite of mine from his Mets days. Gerrit Cole is filthy with that easy motion. 98 mph effortlessly. Plus slider, curve as well.

Enjoy your franchise! I'll be interested to see how it goes for you.

I´m still looking for a right team to start after my Nationals Save went boring. Thought about the Pirates, too but also about the Reds. What do you think? Looking for a team that doesn´t have to win in first year, but has a good chance for a playoff spot.

Are there other options then these 2?

                                Brewers. Angels. Rangers. Rays.
