Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

The injury bug has struck the Cardinals early in the 2015 campaign.

Seth Maness was placed on the 15-Day DL with arm issues, and now Jaime Garcia was placed on the 15-Day DL with back issues.

Cardinals brought up Tyler Lyons from Memphis who made the start in place of Garcia vs the Brew Crew. He worked 6 innings, giving up 9 hits and 3 runs, but didn't factor into the decision as the Cards made a late rally behind the bat of Allen Craig to come back and win 4-3.

We are now 5-4 on the year as we head to Pittsburgh for a 3 game set.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

      Mets 2014 season:

Breezed through Spring Training and the offense was great. Finished up with a sub 500 record though for spring training.

Opening Day: Big win for the Mets. Matt Harvey tossed 6 innings, Gee came on in relief for one and a third and Parnell closed it out for a 1-0 shutout win over the Nats. d'Arnaud picked up the only RBI on a single in the second against Strasburg.

Game two is still in progress. Had to save it but as of now were in the 4th and Eric Young Jr. just homered to left to tie the score at 1 against DC. Colon is actually pitching pretty well. Only mistake was a changeup left hanging against Ryan Zimmerman in the third that he crushed for a solo shot

After rage quitting in a game i was for sure gonna lose. I took 24 hours off and now have a lead in the 8th. Doesnt seem fair that im going to advance to the ALCS though. Should i just blow it and be fair to Boston?

Maybe reload the in-game save (I assume that's what you did) and sim until you lose it?

Or if you're replaying from scratch, sim until you lose that game?

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

            Mets 2014 Franchise:

Game 2: (Cont.) Finished up the second game of the set against the Nationals. Ended in a 5-2 loss. Travis Teagarden gave the Mets the lead briefly in the bottom of the 5th smacking a solo shot over the left field fence but then Dice-K gave the lead back up with a 2 run sixth. Nats tacked on two more in the eighth for the final score. (Played the full game through controlling everything)

Game 3: (Player Locked as David Wright). Blowout loss to the Nationals 6-0. Zack Wheeler was never comfortable and was out after just 5 innings of work. My player lock David Wright finished up 2-4 with 2 singles and was caught stealing in the eight trying to push it since we were down by the 6-0 score at that point.

Game 4: (Player locked as SP Jon Niese) First game of a three game set in Flushing against the Reds. My player lock Jon Niese pitched 6 solid innings but gave up two home runs, one in the third and the other in the fifth, to spell doom for his starting line. Ike Davis picked up his first home run of the year, a solo shot. Mets drop the first game of the set to the Reds 3-1.

Game 5: (Player Locked as Wright with Quick Counts enabled). Great game for the Mets. Horrible game for my player lock. David Wright goes 0-5 with 5, yep count them 5, strikeouts! Quick Counts was insane and I never felt comfortable nor faced enough pitches to feel good. Plus I always kept getting 1-2 counts for some reason. Hefner goes through 8 innings though and Parnell got his second save and the Mets win! The Mets win! 4-2 final score.

Game 6: (Player Lock as SP Matt Harvey) Harvey gets the ball for his second outing of 2014 against the Reds this time. Amazing outing like his Opening Day start. He threw 7 innings giving up only 3 hits, 1 of them a solo home run in the 5th, and struck out 5. Picks up a ND though since the Mets could get nothing going until the bottom of the eight (thanks guys) when Travis d'Arnaud smashes a three run homer. Mets tack on another after that and the final score is 4-1.

Mets have an off day and will travel into Atlanta and then to the west coast to fact the Angels over the next 6 games. Big series against Atlanta next since the NL East looks like this:

            Washington Nationals: 4-2 -
            Miami Marlins: 4-3 0.5
            Atlanta Braves: 3-3 1.0
            New York Mets: 3-3 1.0
            Philadelphia Phillies: 1-5 3.0

I have had the same feeling as you. Just lose so you won't feel guilty, that's what I did in the past.

I am in the playoffs against the Giants. I am the nationals. Beat the Braves in the NLDS 3-1, and tied currently with the Giants 1-1. I came from behind against the Giants in game one. Then I started Jordan Zimmermann I believe and a grand slam by Sandoval with two outs, hurt bad (considering I only lost by one run....). I should have avoided the grand slam, since I struck out Morse but the wild pitch went all the way to the back stop to load the bases. I was pissed...

Oh no. Done that way to much in the past. I went through 3 or 4 controllers with madden 10. I did break a tv once with The Show though. Had a no hitter in the 9th and gave up a HR. Threw a can of coke at my screen and it got inside on the motherboard.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

The Marlins continue to get in their own way with their consistent inconsistency.

After closing to within 4 games of an NL Wild Card spot, thanks to a timely slump by the Mets, the Marlins proceed to lose 5 of their last 6 and drop under .500 once again and are as far back as ever so far, 15 games out. They are back to six games out of the NL playoff picture as well.

Their record stands at 59-61, not bad, per se, but it's clear that the team is really a .500 squad that has to hope to get hot at great times if they want to get back in the thick of the race.

The injuries to Heaney and DeSclafani have really hurt the rotation. The offense bailed the team out against the struggling Pirates, but once the scene shifted to Cincy, the Marlins lost a 1-0 game with Jose Fernandez on the hill - pushing the ace down to 13-3 - and then Alvarez and Eovaldi just continue to disappear. Rookie Adam Conley picked up a 3-hit shutout to snap the four-game losing streak only to have Angel Sanchez have another disappointing outing, clearly not yet ready for the majors.

Jose Fernandez is back up as the Marlins try to win the series against the Cardinals. And then it's back into the labyrinth that is the two through five slots in the rotation.

This home stand will likely be particularly challenging for the Marlins. After the rubber game with the Cardinals, the Marlins have four with the 70-42 Arizona Diamondbacks. Ouch.

The end of August and start of September begins a critical trip through the division that will determine if the Marlins have a dark horse chance in September or will be relegated to "don't take them too lightly" spoilers.

                        Notes:

-Angel Sanchez was sent back to AAA New Orleans. He will be replaced by Brian Flynn getting yet another chance. Jacob Turner will remain in the bullpen, much to his displeasure, due to his less-than-encouraging progress.

-Justin Nicolino is running into some problems in New Orleans. He still has a fine season in the making, but his recent performance has been a bit worrying.

-Knuckleballer Steven Wright has made unexpected progress and is showing some signs of life. He's looking like he wants a September call-up - and perhaps an earlier one than that.

-One of the few good performers in the hitting department in the minors, Kyle Skipworth, tore his calf and will be out up to 2 months.

-Colin Moran continues to heat it up in AAA. He's now up over .800 in OPS to go with a .324 batting average.

-Giancarlo Stanton is at 34 HR. He trails only the O's Chris Davis in that department in all of baseball. Davis has 38 HR. The two players have very similar stats across the board as well.

                            Mets 2014 Franchise Season:

Game 7: (Player lock as OF Chris Young) The New York Mets packed their bags for Atlanta hoping to capitalize on their series win over the Reds and 2 game winning streak. Bartolo Colon had a perfect game through the 4th until he gave up 3 runs in the inning. He would only last 5 innings and take the loss to go 0-1 on the year. His battery mate Teagarden did catch Simmons stealing in the third and my player lock Chris Young went 1-3 with a single, flyout and strikeout and was also caught stealing in the third. Mike Minor threw a complete game one hitter (yep, I was the only hit) for the win. 3-0 Braves win.

Game 8: (Played the game whole way through controlling everything) Zach Wheeler took to the mound looking to bounce back against his trouncing against the Nationals at Citi. Wheeler threw 6 innings striking out 9 and allowing only one run. He also picked up a single in the 2nd and an RBI (love when pitchers hit). At one point he had fanned 6 of 8 batters. Kyle Farnsworth should receive NL player of the week for his performance though. 2 innings out of the pen with the tying run on third base and no one out (inherited from Wheeler to start the top 7th). Farnsworth got a pop out on the first pitch, strikeout on the second batter, and then a harmless grounder to Wright to end the inning. Also struck out 2 of 3 in the 8th. Parnell comes on and blows the save giving up a solo shot to Andrelton Simmons with one out. 2-2 tie score. Ruben Tejada (slumping so far) doubled to start the top 10th, wright singled, and Tejada would later come back around to score on an infield hit. Dillion Gee comes in and strikes out the 3 batters he faces for the save. Parnell gets the win and the Mets do too, 3-2 win in 10.

Game 9: (Player lock as SP Jon Niese) Absolute blowout for the Mets. Daniel Murphy hits a grand slam in the first, Ike Davis had a two home run game (a 2-run shot in the second and a solo shot in the 6th). My player lock Niese threw 8 innings giving up three runs and only three hits (all three being home runs) and struck out 6. Jon Niese picked up the win improving to 1-1, Julio Teheran takes the loss to drop to 0-2 and the Mets win the game 12-3. The Mets also win the series 2/3 from Atlanta which was exactly what we were looking for.

Game 10: (Player lock as 1B Lucas Duda) The Mets immediately headed out to California to face the Angels to being a three game set. Hefner had tightness in his arm and didn't make the start so Dice-K made the emergency start out of the pen giving up three runs over 5 to take the loss. My player lock Lucas Duda went 1-3 with a single, which started a rally putting Chris Young at third and Duda at first with nobody out in the 7th, and flew out and struck out. My player lock hit was only one of three that the Mets managed to get against the Angels as they took the win 3-1. Tyler Skaggs got the W improving to 2-0 and Pujols picked up his second home run of the year, a 2 run shot in the first.

Next game the Mets will play a 6:05 game against the Angels with our ace Matt Harvey on the mound facing off against Jered Weaver. Tight NL East so far as the standings look like this going into April 12th:

                            Washington Nationals: 7-3 -
                            Miami Marlins: 6-5 1.5
                            New York Mets: 5-5 2.0
                            Atlanta Braves: 4-6 3.0
                            Philadelphia Phillies: 4-6 3.0

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

                                Mets 2014 Franchise Year:

Game 11: (Played whole game controlling everything) After dropping game one of the three game set to the Angels, the Mets sent ace starter Matt Harvey to the mound to get the W. And that he did. Another stellar performance by the No.1 starter in the rotation as he goes 8 innings giving up only 2 hits (one being a homer to Howie Kendrick) and picks up the W to improve to 2-0 on the year. Chris Young came off the bench as a PH in the Top 8th to smash the second pitch he saw for a two run home run to give the Mets their only runs of the game. 2-1 win for the Mets and Bobby Parnell got his 3rd save.

Game 12: (player Lock as DH Juan Lagares) Hoping to capitalize on their win the Mets sent Bartolo Colon to the hill to face C.J. Wilson. Once again Colon did not fail to disappoint picking up his third loss of the year and again only going 5 innings. My player lock Lagares went 0-3 with a sacrifice fly in the second, a hard line out in the 6th and a strikeout in the 8th. Angels pick up the win, and the series win 2/3, by a score of 3-1.

Game 13: (Player Lock as SP Zach Wheeler) The first game of the last three game set of this brutally long nine game road trip began at Chase Field against the Diamondbacks. My player lock Zach Wheeler was lights out through 6.1 striking out 5 and allowing no runs. Not sure why virtual Terry Collins yanked me in the 7th after only throwing 69 pitches but it is what it is. Wheeler picks up the win to improve to 1-1 and the Mets start off the Arizona set right by picking up a 4-0 win over the D-Backs.

So far the Mets are 4-3 on their first road trip of the year which is a little disappointing so far (personal goal was to be 5-2 at this point) but not bad. A major part of the failure rests squarely on Colon. In fact both of his road starts were losses and he is the only weak link in the starting rotation that is overall ranked 1st in hits and 2nd in ERA in the majors (Harvey leads the whole league with an 0.86). In light of that I put Colon on the trading block and am seriously considering trading him or releasing him if his performance doesn't improve.

The next few games will be crucial as the standings in the NL East looks like this:

                                Philadelphia Phillies 7-6 -
                                Washington Nationals 7-6 -
                                New York Mets 7-6 -
                                Miami Marlins 7-7 0.5
                                Atlanta Braves 6-7 1.0

The Phillies recovered fast from their dismal 1-5 start and the Nats seemed to have fallen hard from their fast start. Around the NL the Cubs hold a crazy 3.5 lead over the Reds with a 10-2 record in the Central and the Dodgers hold a 2.0 game lead over the Giants in the West with a record of 9-4. The NL wildcard is also tied up with the Phillies, Reds, Nationals, Giants, and Mets all tied for the top spot in the Wild Card so far
