Re: MLB 15 : Road to the Show Thread

Freddie Tolbert, star SS for the Pittsburgh Pirates, is a legend.

Okay, maybe not yet, but c'mon, hitting 4 homeruns in a World Series game means something, right?

    Right?

My first series we went to, we lost a couple of heartbreakers. We freakin lost when I hit 4 HRs, and then we lost again to lose the series (4-2 total series record) to the Yankees. I resigned in Pittsburgh the next year (free agency) and I'm hoping to head to the series again.

Alright my First full length season has come to an end and me and the dodgers are playoff bound versus the Diamondbacks. My player Andrew Benintendi had a pretty solid year batting .316 with 21 homers and 87 RBIs on 177 hits in 560 ABs
.He is very much in the Rookie of the year debate playing most of his time at RF and 3B some

Re: MLB 15 : Road to the Show Thread

I truly wish there was logic to managerial decisions. And I'm not even talking about pinch hitting me in the 9th of a ballgame when I'm on a 34 game hitting streak (maybe Bob Melvin hates streak breakers or just really, really likes Joltin' Joe and wants him to hold the record) -- although that bugged me some.

Why the heck won't my team get an actual closer? Tyler Clippard is fumbling along to the tune of a 5.09 ERA with 4 blown saves. Meanwhile, there's a hot prospect down on the farm pitching lights out that could probably stand a promotion - if not to take Clippard's place, than definitely to take Drew Pomeranz's place.

My RTTS staff looks something like this:

Sonny Gray (87 ovr): 2.71 ERA
AJ Griffin (83 ovr): 3.55 ERA
Gio Gonzalez (82 ovr (welcome back to Oakland, dood)): 3.28 ERA
Scott Kazmir (84 ovr): 2.53 ERA
Jesse Hahn (80 ovr): 4.76 ERA

Then in the 'pen, they have two long relievers

Jarrod Parker (81 ovr): 3.04 ERA in 26.2 innings pitched
Drew Pomeranz (72 ovr) 5.40 ERA in 1.2 innings pitched.

Not a typo. 1.2 innings. In June.

There's no explanation. He's been on the roster since opening day and he hasn't gone on the DL once. Send him down and get a MR, 'cause the workload on the other two is borderline Fredi Gonzalez ridiculous - each of them is on pace to pitch like 100 innings.

So much for improved logic. And it won't even let me manually injure Pomeranz on the off-chance they call up a MR they might actually use in a game.

I am looking to add a fourth pitch to my pitcher, I am a right handed pitcher who currently throws a Fastball, Changeup and Slider, I am thinking a curveball is a good fourth pitch to add to the mix or maybe a cutter what do you guys think?

Defense in the RTTS is boring because it is too easy and repetitive. My guy is a short stop. When the ball is hit, I push left or right while holding square to throw out the runner at first... and I do this over and over and over...

There's rarely an opportunity to make leaping or diving plays and when the ball is hit to me I either catch it or it is entirely out of reach. Throwing errors seem to be totally random.

Basically, it is really unrewarding. There is zero "wow factor" to defense in the RTTS mode, which is a shame, because the game is supposed to simulate real baseball. Defense is fun in real baseball.
Have you tried playing all plays fielding? I did it with both a SS and a 1B. It was more in depth. Not all plays went to you, but the not knowing what play was your play, or in the case of the SS, if the play went over your head, it gives you more cutoff oppritunities and so forth. When I do my RTTS, once I hit the majors I play the full game in the field and just my at bats and baserunning.

              - do sliders work for RTTS just like a regular franchise or exhibition game, meaning Armor's sliders will work just fine?

-Injuries and trades I'm assuming are both in? How about season long injuries?

The only thing I can really think of (which I did to make me play in the minors longer) is go up a level of difficulty (IE if you play veteran, move up to all-star etc) and drop the sliders down 1 or 2 points to make hitting a little tougher.

Re: MLB 15 : Road to the Show Thread

I'm on my fourth year as a SP. The first two years I played for the Padres but thankfully I was traded to the Cardinals. I was really sad to see all the great ones retire after 2017 season (I miss you Molina) but luckily we got a LOT of good players during off season and I now have awesome run support. However:

I love baseball but I didn't know all the rules at first (I'm from Sweden) so I've been playing on beginner difficulty to compensate for that. I should've raised the difficulty MUCH sooner because now I'm striking out between 20-26 batters/game and I always finish with at least a shutout. I don't really have an excuse for playing on beginner for so long other than the fact that I didn't know all the rules, I was afraid to be sent down and the fact that I had absolutely no run support when playing for the Pads. I actually had to buy a ridiculous amount of training points to spend on batting so we could stand a chance.

I've tried using the dynamic difficulty but as soon as it hits All-Star I'm a goner. Literally the first pitch on All-Star was smashed to oblivion and I'm not sure it has landed yet. Sure, I didn't strike out as many batters on Veteran but I always finished with a shutout. Please don't jump down my throat for playing on Beginner for so long.

I guess I'll have to play the same game over and over on All-Star until I can figure out how to pitch better. My SP has awesome control and speed on his three main pitches (4seam fb, changeup and cutter) because I didn't know how to add pitches until very late in my first year My other two pitches (curveball and sinker) have a lot of speed and control too but not as much as the others. I always try and hit the corners, and I go just a little bit outside the zone when I'm on a 0-2 count but that hardly matters when the batters can connect on a curveball on the very inside of the plate and send it into orbit...

Just had my first seminal moment in RTTS. I created a contact/speed oriented 2B and was drafted late in the 2nd round by Baltimore. I go 2 for 7 with two singles but suffer an ACL sprain late in game two, 15 day DL, I'm out till May 1st.
First game back, I crush two mistakes for home runs, the second being a walk off two run job in the bottom of the 9th, it was awesome.

Can those of you who play OF in your RTTS careers give me the best camera angle to use in the field?
At 2B(my main position) I use dynamic and it works great, in LF however(my 2nd pos) its a little clunky.

Re: MLB 15 : Road to the Show Thread

After the BLOD wiped away my Dbacks franchise, I decided I'd start a RTTS. Created a shortstop, little guy with plus arm, speed and contact. Got drafted by the Rockies and obviously assigned to AA.

I absolutely tore up AA. I was getting bored of my success at some points, but I realised I was only 18, why would the Rockies rush me through the system? Finally, my patience was rewarded with a promotion to AAA after two months and change. On the day of my promotion I was hitting .398, with 7 HR, 48 RBI as well as leading the league in SB (23), OPS (1.103) and doubles (20).

AAA overmatched me. After three days I was 2-12, both soft singles and having K'd six times. But Kyle Kendrick hit the DL and just like that I was in the majors to fill his spot for a few weeks (natural replacement, obviously).

So there I am, slugging away at AA and before I can even catch AAA's name I join a big league club that are two games back of the Dodgers and really heating up. I didn't feel ready to contribute at the major league level, for sure. "Maybe if I just try to learn a few things ready for when I go back to AAA" I thought to myself, "then eventually I'll be ready for this." But what I thought didn't matter. Before I knew it I was throw into the thick of it. Down 6-5 to the Brewers and bottom of the 8th with two outs and I find Walt Weiss is asking me to grab a bat and hit for the pitcher.

I step in for my first major league plate appearance against left hander Will Smith. First pitch curve down and in for a strike. Immediately I feel overwhelmed, as the curve seems to fly by me quicker than any AA fastball I've been whiffing at the past few days. Second pitch, same result. Curve for a strike. 0-2. "Just don't go down looking at a third strike" suddenly became the goal. Despite this, I take the gamble to leave the bat on my shoulders and pray that Will Smith thinks I'm worth trying to take out of the zone. Third pitch comes flying in. My heart races as the two seamer seems to catch the edge of the plate but the umpire is unmoved. Smith comes back with another two seamer but I could tell out of the hand that this one would be miles outside. An easy take and it's 2-2. "Right" I tell myself. "I can't hit that fastball. But if he comes back with that curve and catches the plate, I'm pulling the trigger". 2-2 pitch. Curveball just as I called it. The crack of the bat is followed by an eruption from the fans at Coors field as the ball soars into right center, thudding off the wall as I pull in with a standup double. Wow! It's only my third month in professional baseball and I've arrived in the major leagues.

I'd make my first ML start two days later against the same Brewers, playing in left field. I'd never played here before, but it's probably a little optimistic to think they'd shift Tulo for me...

A disappointing 0-4 would be salvaged by picking up my second hit in the following series with the Dbacks, a soft single down the left field line, as well as three hard hit outs. My suddenly found confidence at the plate earned me a second consecutive start the night after, this time in right field. Another flawless night in the field was the undercard to a breakout night at the plate as I went 3-4 with two doubles, stealing two bases and scoring twice. Just as I was leaving the game and heading back to the menus I thought "I might just stick around, y'know. If I carry on hitting like this. That, and my ability to handle multiple positions. At least I've given them something to think about"

That's when it popped up. The Rockies trade SS Troy Tulowitzki to the White Sox for 1B Jose Abreu, CF Adam Eaton and CP David Robertson.

THEY HAVE MOVED TULO FOR ME! I'M THE KING OF THE ROCKIES! FACE OF THE FRANCHISE BABY!

                        Then another pop up:

The Rockies trade SS (My Guy) to the Mets for SP Rafael Montero.

I'm in year 2029 (six games in so far), with 13.165 years of MLB service time. Here are my current career numbers.
                          G: 2009
                          AB: 7893

                          HR: 474
                          RBI: 1501
                          SB: 117
                          CS: 24
                          BB: 527
                          SO: 1253
                          SLG%: .542
                          OBP: .344
                          OPS: .886
                          HBP: 87

Awards: 7x AS, 5x MVP, 2x Gold Glove, 4x league leader in HRs (career high of 56 and only time above 50)

In 14 seasons I've been to the playoffs 5 times and only made it out of the first round once, before finally winning the WS this past season with Washington.

2024 was my best season setting career highs in Avg: .349, HRs: 56, Hits: 211, and RBI: 155.

I love playing with this guy because it feels like a legit good/great career, not HOF worthy yet, but I still have 6 years till I reach the 20 season mark. Which is when I told myself I would retire this guy.

I feel for you buddy. That's why I have turned off auto-save and keep five separate saves. It's a bit easier when you're a starting pitcher and only have a game every five days, though. I don't know how to prevent that when you have appearances almost every day.

Why is there no Silver Slugger award for NL pitchers? My second SP (Giants) is killing it right now, 23 HR, 64 RBI, 7 2B, 4 3B and a 20+ game hit streak! It did cost me a lot though... But it's fun!

After playing as a pitcher exclusively I decided to start a new career. Meet the power hitting SS Oil Can Falkenborg.

The first day of the showcase Oil Can delivered a two out double, a GRAND SLAM, and a leadoff single (no extra stuff other than equipment). Day two wasn't as hot as the first but he did ok except for an error when messing up on a double play. On the third day he launched a two run homer and a double. He loves those hanging curveballs and four seamers up in the zone. His cryptonite is sliders and two seamers because he is way too aggressive on them.

At the end of the showcase I messed up. I picked my favorite team, the Cardinals. I really regret it for two reasons:
                                1. Now that I'm not a pitcher, I should've chosen an AL team that I like (I really enjoy batting as a pitcher), like the Orioles or the A's.
                                2. Jhonny Peralta. There's no way they are gonna replace him with me.

But I can't go back now because Oil Can is crushing it with the Springfield Cardinals. In Oil Can's first game he hit a two run homer and a RBI triple. And in his second game he completed a cycle. Even though it's very early in the season Oil Can leads the league in homers (10), stolen bases (8), RBI (can't recall, I'm at work) and his BA is .702.

It would be stupid to do it all over again just because I want to play for another team and I don't think I could replicate those VERY lucky hits. Anyway, I'm not in a hurry to move up to the big league because I suspect Oil Can's hind parts will be candy as soon as he moves up. He has to learn to take it easy and not try and hit every pitch that comes to him.

I will report back later in the season.
