Re: MLB 15 : Road to the Show Thread
Previous season
Just gonna do a quick update.
First season with the Mets I wasn't expecting to win a ton, the roster is really young and other than myself has no elite players. But we somehow managed to win 101 games and the division. Our inexperience and lack of talent showed in the playoffs though, as we were swept by our division foes the Nationals in the NLDS despite having home field advantage.
The really disappointing thing, however, is that all the young A potential talent on the roster barely improved in the offseason. We're talking 1-2 points max, some players even declined. One of the reason I chose the Mets was because they had a ton of 75+, A potential players between the ages of 24-28 who I thought might be ready to take some big leaps, but that didn't happen this offseason. Also disappointing is we didn't sign anybody in free agency. This team just won 101 games, you'd think we'd be in win now mode, but not a single MLB starter signed in free agency.
Our 2nd best player is Fransisco Lindor at an 87 overall, but that 87 is all glove, his bat is almost worthless. We do have a power hitter at 3B named Thomas Rubio who killed it this season, crushing 30 bombs and 122 RBI. He somehow managed to have an OPS below .800 despite that. Only average at getting on base, strikes out a ton, and doesn't hit anything but singles and homers. Still, he's a good cleanup guy.
As for me, I won my 2nd MVP award this year, after blasting 42 homers and posting a 1.011 OPS. Becoming only the 2nd person after Frank Robinson to win both an AL and NL MVP. I actually made a stat table, although it's not perfect and doesn't have all the stat categories I'd like, I added it below. I also won the Hank Aaron and Silver Slugger, and my 3rd Home Run Derby. I also did something I've never done before - won the Triple Crown. I won the batting title at .323, the HR title at 42, and the RBI title at 128.
Now I've just gotta hope this front office is committed to building the roster, I've got 4 years left in New York before I can hit free agency again. Hopefully some of these youngsters will start to peak soon.

Re: MLB 15 : Road to the Show Thread
I'm curious about something that used to be an issue in Road to the Show in the past. I've recently been playing an outfielder (Roy Hobbs) and have been having a blast. I haven't done a Road to the Show position player since MLB 12 and I'm starting to notice something that I"m hoping is just a coincidence. The runs.
In previous versions of The Show every season, without fail, my team would give up a ridiculous amount of runs, and score a ridiculous amount of runs. It was very common to see both teams score 10+ runs. I've noticed that the scores seem to be a little high for my Double-A player as well in MLB 15.
So essentially, when using a position player are you always going to experience high-scoring games? I'd really like to hear/see something concreted as opposed to, "I just had a 2-0 game, etc." What are some of your end-of-season totals? Do any of you guys play for teams (as a position player) that has a top 5 ERA?Comment

I was just thinking about what my SS WAR would be. Where in the game can I see my defense and baserunning stat?
In other news, the dreadful month of July is finally over. It's the worst and most ridiculous part of the game and I will never ever understand the trade "logic". I hate it. The Cardinals never aquired Duda but I had to spend TWO HOURS making sure we didn't lose Wainwright and Molina. We got some very good outfielders for Wainwright but we don't need them since our guys are doing just fine. Regarding Molina, he's hitting almost exactly like he does right now IRL, except he has 6 HR. For him, we got an OK catcher and an average LF. Luckily, I was able to put a stop to that nonsense and I can relax and enjoy the game again.Comment

Re: MLB 15 : Road to the Show Thread
The defense and baserunning is going to be objective, you'll have to give yourself a fair rating in those categories. I usually always give myself a 1 in baserunning because I typically steal 40+ bases a year while almost never being thrown out. Defensively, I've given myself several ratings depending on the season. I have insane range in CF and I get to a lot of balls most players wouldn't get to. on the 1-7 scale with 4 being average, I usually give myself 3 or a 2 depending on how many errors/assists I get that season. I've never given myself a 1 even though I have a feeling if my guy was a real player he would be the best defensive CF in the league.Comment

On Veteran difficulty, I will sometimes get 4-6 runs (Colorado Rockies).

I'm definitely a 1 in baserunning but I don't know about defense. I don't have any errors on my conscience but I'm lacking in the PO department (I'm a SS). Don't have the numbers but if I recall correctly it's something like 50 PO and 160 A in about 75 games played. All the other shortstops have something like 90-100 PO and 200+ A. It's not that I let balls slip by me, it's just that I'm not in many situations where I get to to field the ball. I guess I'm a 4 or 5.Comment

Thank you very much! I'm going to crunch the numbers tomorrow.

Did/do any of you guys have trouble hitting in Road to the Show? I'm an average hitter in franchise mode but in my Road to the Show I'm barely breaking .100 with my (stub-juiced 99 rated phenom).Comment

Re: Official MLB 15 : Road to the Show Thread
I have simmed the playoffs every year since my rookie year with the Red Sox and we have won the WS each year including my rookie year. '15 it was the Nats 4-2. '16 and 1'8 it was the Dodger 4-3 and 4-1. '17 and '19 it was the Cubs both 4-3. We usually finish seasons with the 4th/5th best record in basesball, but the when I sim it seems like the CPU comes alive and uses my guy better than I do at the plate, he's a 99 rated defensive monster of an OF but an average switch hitter with his ratings being in the low 70s high 60s. I'm using TNKs slider set with dynamic hitting which hovers between HoF and Legend.

Re: MLB 15 : Road to the Show Thread
I do go through stretches of not being able to hit squat with my guy, but almost 99% of the time it is because I am jumping at the first pitch that is a strike or getting down in counts. When I am patient and hit balls up in the zone or ahead in the count, I can keep my avg around .350, otherwise I dip below .300. Remember, the higher your ratings, the less hitters pitches you will see (at least in my exp).Comment

Re: MLB 15 : Road to the Show Thread
Let me preface this by saying that I am not exaggerating at all, whatsoever.
First I've played MLB The Show since 2008 and while I'm no expert I like to believe I'm a decent player. I've played and coached baseball so I know the game. I'm a patient hitter and try and work the counts to my favor.
That being said I created an 18 year old phenom (bought training points) and made my guy a 99 rated player in every statistical category. I've always hit on All-Star on The Show and in franchise mode I usually hit around .250 but consider this is with all sorts of players, some rating as low as 65. With players 85 or above I usually hover around .300.
Now in Road to the Show my player absolutely crushed the ball in Double-A. I hit something like 14 home runs, batted .368, tons of doubles, etc, in about 50 games. But since getting called up I cannot hit a lick. I've had a few home runs here and there but I'm batting .210 and I only have a couple doubles on balls that snuck by the corner infielders on the ground.
Everything I hit seems to be weak contact and I rarely put together solid games (I've had maybe one so far). If that's not bad enough I just played a game where I had a 2-0 count and was sitting on a pitch down the middle. I used power swing and had "Good" timing (I use directional hitting, at least at the time this time)... and swung and missed.
It's literally as if the game just doesn't want me to put up good numbers right now. I've had Road the the Show players before that tore the cover off the ball, on All-Star, that were similar to this player. I really don't get why I can't hit all of a sudden. I don't want to drop down to Veteran as I've never hit on that level and I have no idea why I would need to with a 99 rated hitter.
Has anyone had this happen with an 18-year old? I'm just wondering if something's coded in the game so that you don't just go off right from the get-go if you're only 18 years old. I really am at a loss on this one.Comment
