East Texas Baseball Star Heading To MLB Showcase
The Daily Sentinel and KTRE have just received word from the athletic department of Nacogdoches High School that their top baseball player, infielder Andrew Morrison, has received an invitation to participate in the MLB Prospect Showcase. The Prospect Showcase invites numerous players from all over the country as well as young international talent around the world to participate in a series of games in which scouts from all 30 MLB teams will be present and getting one last look at prospects before the upcoming draft.
The left-handed 6'2" Morrison was one of the top players in not just 5A, but all of Texas this season as he led the state in batting average, and was one of the top ten in home runs and RBI. Many MLB scouts, who have seen Morrison in action, believe that Morrison will wait and see where he is projected before he decides whether to enter his name into the draft, or if he will play a year or so in college ball. Numerous college scouts have also been present at Nacogdoches games, including scouts from Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma State, as well as various other schools around the country.
Morrison is excited for the chance to see what the showcase has to offer, and is grateful for the opportunities ahead to attempt to reach his dream of becoming a major leaguer.
"It has been a dream of mine to get to the big leagues, ever since I could remember. I picked up a baseball when I was 4 years old, and my dad got me into tee ball, and I've never looked back. I would love to be the first Dragon from Nacogdoches High School to make it to the majors. I mean, we've had Clint Dempsey, whose made it to the MLS and overseas, and Damien James made it to the NBA, but to be the first MLB player to come out of Nac?"
"I am ready for the pressure, and I feel like with hard work, patience, and faith, I believe I will make it. I'm not sure yet if I will put my name out there to be drafted yet, though. I will go out there and do my best and then consult my family, friends, and coach, and do what we agree is best for me."
