Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

With a week left in July we have hit a rough stretch, as we have lost 4 straight knocking us to 3 1/2 behind the Buccos for first in the Central over 5 1/2 games behind the second wildcard spot.

While our bullpen has been pitching very well since the break, we lost Wacha to a head contusion and our starting pitching isn't holding up its end of the bargin.

I did make a move that I thought could possibly help our team, as we dealt Kolten Wong and Craig Gentry to the Twins for Oswaldo Arcia and a minor league closer prospect. I know you're probably wondering why I dealt Wong, but honestly he really doesn't have a spot on this team, and has spent most of the last two seasons in AAA, as we have Carpenter at 2B and Arenado at third. With us having a few hot prospects at second, a move of Wong was almost necessary. We got the LH bat with pop that we need and possibly our Left fielder of the future as I expect Holiday to retire after this year and even if he doesn't, we most likely will not resign him. In fact if we continue to fall further behind in the races, we may deal him to a contending team so he can play in the postseason one last time.

But we haven't given up hope just yet. Gotta keep digging and fighting. Right now, we just need a win.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

7 Games into year two, and I can tell already that defending the WS for my Pirates is going to be hard enough in my own division, let alone the entire league.

I've decided to attempt to play every game for the time being since I'm ahead of real life and into the next season of play. I've finally mastered hitting with Josh Harrison (which I thought was impossible at one time), which has helped him to a .400 average to kick off the lineup. Behind him however, I've been struggling with McCutchen and surprisingly Polanco. Polanco usually is guaranteed a 2 hit game when I play, he almost hit .500 in the playoffs last year, but now it's like I've completely forgotten how. With McCutchen, he's just really really good at hitting at-him balls.

The trouble is, despite starting 6-1, the Brewers (who added Pablo Sandoval in the offseason) have become unbeatable. We've yet to play them, but they're off to a strong 8-1 start, and it looks like this division is going to be a slugfest between the two of us this year. I hope Miller Park doesn't continue to be a house of horrors for me.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

Alright I have a question for you guys how long do you leave a prospect in his respective league before promoting him? For instance, I'm using the Dodgers and through 2.5 starts, Urias is dominating. 2-0 0.00 ERA with a 21-4 K-BB ratio, whip of .55. And has pitched 16.1 innings. Also he has only given up 5 hits in his 3 starts. And his baa v. lefties .100 and v. righties .095. All of this is in AA. Obviously he is dominating AA right now. How much longer should I wait before promoting him to AAA. My original plan was to have him in the MLB right after the ASB.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

The individual awards have some interesting races:

                NL MVP
3-man race between Javier Baez (Cardinals), who might be the best hitter in the NL, if not all of baseball, right now. Chris Davis (Marlins), who's still slugging the ball with authority and is surprisingly maintaining a .330 batting average. And Paul Goldschmidt (D-backs), who's leading the NL in batting at .357 ad well as in HR with 16.

                AL MVP
Maybe Jay Bruce (O's) just needed to go the AL. After underachieving with both the Marlins and Reds, Bruce is leading the AL with 18 HR. Kyle Seager (Mariners) has turned into a bit of a late bloomer, challenging for MVP, and his best career season, at 30 years old. Meanwhile, Prince Fielder (Rangers) is still destroying baseballs, hitting .320 with 14 HR.

                NL CY
You'd think Jose Fernandez (Marlins) with his 1.46 ERA would be a shoo-in. Nope. Robert Stephenson (Dodgers) is right behind him at 1.57. In many other years, Stephen Strasburg's 2.71 ERA would be right there...but for now, he'll need the front runners to start pitching like mortals instead of gods.

                AL CY
The Junior Circuit is a battle of mere mortal arms right now. Tyler Skaggs (Angels) is leading the way with a 2.77 ERA, but some voters have mentioned they prefer Kyle Zimmer (Royals) and his 3.15 ERA because of a higher strikeout total. Anthony Ranaudo (Red Sox) might finally be coming into his own after some mediocre seasons to start his career.

                NL ROY
Not really worth mentioning as all the front runners have been horrible. Hopefully, it's just a slow start for the newbies, but a very disappointing rookie class right now, especially after Kris Bryant, Henry Owens, and Damian Boeve all lit up the league as phenoms in the past three seasons.

                AL ROY
It's a bit better in the AL as at least some decent performers are in the hunt. Matt Duffy (Tigers) is hitting .280 with a respectable .781 OPS. SP Jose Barrios (Twins) is a little good luck away from really making a name for himself. He's pitched well by most metrics, just not getting as good of results as he could be.

                NL Hank Aaron
The Marlins' 3-year run at this award might come to an end as Paul Goldschmidt continues to challenge for a possible Triple Crown run. The Marlins wouldn't pay Carlos Gonzalez (Giants), and CarGo is trying to make them regret it as he's batting .352 and giving Goldschmidt a battle.

                AL Hank Aaron
Unlike the NL battle, the AL race here features two of the MVP candidates, Bruce and Fielder. The new face here is Alex Avila (Tigers). Interesting in that he's a catcher and doesn't gaudy home run numbers - at least at first glance. He "only" has 10, but that's come in just 155 AB. He also has a .433 OBP to go with it.

Miami Marlins franchise (carry over from 14)

Defending worlds champs running away with division in the NLE. (18 game lead in Late August)

World Series opp Tampa Bay, doing same.

                  Brewers controlling NLC

Dodgers running away with NLW (7.5 game lead)

                  NL Wild Card race tight

AL Central KC and Cleveland are battling it out

                  Rangers rolling over AL West

i have done a lot of trading thanks to the new trade format... has made it pretty easy to make some big time trades... trade finder has been a gold mine...

im hoping in the off season to pick up another top notch free agent pitcher (got Scherzer last off season)

dont have to worry about signing many if any players to contracts. did most of that after last season in 14. Average length of player contract on team is between 3-6 years each.

loving this game... maybe be playing on a lower level but having fun and that is all that matters... stress is no part of fun...

For me personally I like to give a pitcher at least 7-10 games at one level before I decide to move him up or he has to be really destroying stuff and for position players I like to give them at least a month that's just me tho

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

I have 2 franchises going on right now. One is a 2014 carry over that when I transferred was on the 1st day of ST so I have been playing the season on MLB 15, well after editing the names of every player that was removed from the game . My other one is a 2015 chise, both are 30 team control as the Red Sox with the respective versions of the OSFM opening day rosters...I play every game in both franchises
                      2014 chise:
I am at work so the chise isn't in front of me, but my record stands at around 27-31. I am in the first week of June, heading into a huge weekend series with the Tigers in Detroit. The pitching has been a HUGE surprise thus far, with a rotation of Lester, Lackey, Doubront, Peavy, and Buchholz, we have a chance to win every night except for when Lackey is out there. Lackey has an ERA of ~7.5, but other than him Peavy has the highest at 3.97. Lester sits at 2.04, Doubront at 2.47, and Buchholz at 3.04. The injury bug has hit us lately, as we had no injuries through April and most of May, but the last 2 weeks has seen Doubront, Carp, Middlebrooks, and Allen Webster (AAA) nurse injuries, although WMB was a day to day thing. Workman has replaced Felix in the rotation, and he has performed well with an 0-2 record but 3.65 era. I recalled Holt to take Carp's spot, and outrighted Sizemore to AAA and recalled JBJ. Jackie has been a nice surprise thus far, hitting .280 with 3 HR's in about 12 games. We have struggled big time offensively, as our highest average is WMB at .264. The rest of the lineup is typically: Nava (.243) Victorino (.260) Pedroia (.203) Ortiz (.244) Napoli (.257) Pierzynski (.260) Middlebrooks (.264) Bradley Jr (.280) Bogaerts (.213) as you can see we have trouble scoring, usually winning our games in low scoring contests. Napoli leads in HR's with 13/14, Ortiz with 12/13, and Middlebrooks with 10. Napoli has heated up as of late, homering 3 times in our last series against the Indians, including a 2 HR game and one of them gave us the lead in extras. The pen has been strong for the most part as well, though recently all of the ERA's have inflated a bit. The AAA rotation has caught fire, with Webster De La Rosa Ranaudo Barnes and Workman/Wright all pitching well and waiting in the wings. Their offense has also improved lately, and in AA the whole offense has carried the team back towards .500 and towards the top of the division. There is still lots of baseball left to be played, but the need to add an impactful bat increases with each game. Before the June 1st game I said to myself that if I didn't see a noticeable improvement from Bogaerts at the plate in the next 5 games then he would find himself back with the PawSox, and this appears that it will indeed happen. (Will this affect his development? he has dropped to a B POT so I want him to right the ship before its too late) with him in triple a for the for the short term I will probably keep with Herrera and Holt who both have been swinging hot bats lately.
                      2015 chise:
currently 2-1 (haven't been able to get into this one as much after being so invested in my other one) Buchholz and Hamels threw well on Opening Day as it was deadlocked 0-0 through 6 but Hamels cracked first and we ultimately went on to win. Game 2 Porcello blew up (what else is new) but in Game 3 Miley pitched very well and we got back in the win column.
In both franchises I am being very conservative with my prospects, and in my 2015 chise it looks like I will have to make some sort of pitching move based on how they have performed IRL, though its too early to tell.
Thanks for reading, sorry for the long post! Have been meaning to post this for a while just never got around to it

                        <table><td bgcolor=#0B2351>End of April - 2016</td></table>

Good start to the season. 15-9 and lead the division by 1.5 games over the Cubs. We lost the first game of the year (screw blown saves) then won 8 in a row. 7-8 since then. We are 11-7 vs division opponents and have already faced the Cardinals 7 times. Winning 4.

Offense has been great. We are 1st in AVG at .276, 3rd in runs with 115, 2nd in doubles with 52, 11th in SLG % at .409. Only 15 Home Runs though. 25th in the league. 6 players tied for the team lead with 2.

Adam Lind leads the team with a .316 AVG. Carlos Gomez leads with 18 runs and 9 doubles. Braun, Davis, Parra, Gomez, Gennett and Luis Sardinas tied with 2 home runs. Braun leads with 16 RBI. Most disappointing so far is Lucroy. Only hitting .259/.309/.365. Really needs to turn it around for us to succeed.

Pitching. Oh man. The bullpen is good at least. We are 15th with a 3.61 ERA, 24th with 1 CG, 20th with 1 shut out, 7th with 17 HR allowed and last with 91 walks allowed. We already have 4 blown saves. Only 1 from our actual closer though.

Jimmy Nelson leads the rotation in ERA - 2.38, IP - 34, Strikeouts - 25, HR allowed - 0 and WHIP - 1.09. He does have the most walks with 17. Of the players in the rotation right now the next best ERA is 3.86 from Matt Garza. Fiers has a 5.76 ERA. Josh Johnson and Wily Peralta are both in the 6's. Johnson was hurt for a few weeks so he only has 3 starts. Taylor Jungman filled in for him while he was out and pitched really well. 2 games, 14 IP, 14 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K's. Peralta has 2 or 3 more starts to figure stuff out or ill move him to the pen and put Jungman back in.

Highest ERA in our pen right now is 3.00 from Corey Knebel. Didnt get off to the best of starts blowing save in the first game of the year. He is 8-8 since though. Jim Henderson hasnt given up a run in 9.2 IP. He has 14 strikeouts and 4 walks. Brxton hasnt given up a run in 8.2 IP. K-Rod is doing much better so far. 2.70 ERA with a 15 to 4 K/BB ratio. And Will Smith has a 1.54 ERA.

                        In The Minors

Best prospect in AAA so far has been SP Jorge Lopez. Only 3 games so far cause he spent a couple weeks up in the majors while Johnson was hurt. He is 2-0 with a 2.18 ERA in 3 games. 20.2 IP, 30 K's, 9 Walks, 13.06 K9. High WHIP at 1.40 but he is getting out of it with his K's. Matt Clark is hitting .289/.369/.598 with 8 HR and 19 RBI and Chris Nelson is hitting .314/.377/.471.

In AA best prospect has been Trevor Brown. Out him in AA instead of AAA just so he could have some more playing time at 1B. He is hitting .303/.365/.487 with 2 HR, 13 RBI, 6 doubles and a triple. Starting is doing better down there. Hobbs Johnson is 3-0 with 4 games with a 1.42 ERA. He just went on the DL though with a broken forearm. First round pick form last year Garret Hill is 0-1 in 5 games, 30.1 IP with a 2.97 ERA. High WHIP at 1.42 though.

                        Around The League

Nationals have the best record at 19-6. White Sox are looking for the 1st pick for a 2nd straight year sitting at 7-16.

Yasiel Puig (.429) and Francisco Lindor (.423) lead in AVG, Joey Gallo / George Springer (8) and Paul Goldschmidt (9) lead in HR, Gincarlo Stanton (24) and Migulel Caberea (23) lead in RBI, Lindor (1.099) and Puig (1.274) lead in OPS.

Jordan Zimmerman (0.89) and Zach McCallister (1.29) lead in ERA, Matt Moore (42) and Archie Bradley (46) lead in Strikeouts, Zimmerman (40.1) ad Moore (38.1) lead in IP, Trevor Bauer (0.88) and Clayton Kershaw (0.70) lead in WHIP.

Jose Fernandez is out for 1-2 months with a Torn finger Ligament. Steven Matz is done for the year with a Torn Labrum and Josh Reddick is out for 1-2 months with a Broken Ankle for the Mets. Patrick Corbin is out for 1-2 months with a Shoulder Tear for Arizona. Tulois out for 3-4 weeks with a Broken foot for the Rockies. He hasnt played in a game yet this year.

19 of our 28 games in May are against teams under .500 as of right now. Time to build up that lead.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

2017 of my Blue Jays franchise, taking on the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALCS after finishing first in the American League East and sweeping the Detroit Tigers in the first round of the playoffs. First time that I've made the playoffs since the start of the franchise (2015) after finishing last in both of the previous seasons. Lost Jose Bautista to the Colorado Rockies in free agency and moved Edwin Encarnacion in favour of Joey Votto.

Decided that it was time to contend in 2017 and depleted my farm system in favor of fielding a stronger lineup at the MLB level.

So far the lineup looks like this:
                          2B Dee Gordon
                          SS Jose Reyes
                          3B Josh Donaldson
                          DH Miguel Sano
                          1B Joey Votto
                          C Russell Martin
                          CF Jordan Schafer
                          RF Eric Young Jr.
                          LF Ben Revere

Really like the combination of speed at the top and bottom of the lineup as well as the four power bats in the middle of the lineup to drive in the speedsters.

                          Rotation:
                          1. Mat Latos
                          2. Cole Hamels
                          3. Yordano Ventura
                          4. Marcus Stroman
                          5. Clay Buchholz

Lator and Buchholz were all acquired via free agency a year ago. Hamels and Ventura were both acquired at the trade deadline (2017 and 2016 respectively) to help aid my starting pitching, which was the major downfall in the first few season.

Looking to get past the Rays and into the World Series, where either the Dodgers or Nationals will make it from the National League side.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

We have closed out July and are still 3 1/2 games behind the Pirates for first place. We are 6 out of the wildcard and I'm beginning to think that we only have shot at playoffs by winning division.

The deadline came and went without us, nor anyone else for that matter, making a deal. We did trade Wong for Arcia but that was about as major as it gets. I did put a claim on Charlie Furbush of the Mariners as they put him on trade waivers. A few others are out there but nothing that fits our club or financial situation.

If we somehow land Furbush without having to do a deal, I'll be extremely excited as he would add solidarity to a bullpen that has been a nemesis for much of the year. The question would be who do we send down. Adding Arcia has added pop to our lineup in the likes that we haven't seen and has me believing that with his ability to change the game with one swing of the bat, that we have a few good runs in us to chase down the Buccos, just need them to start faltering at some point, but they are starting to get healthy and play good baseball.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Finally got above .500 in my Tigers franchise with at 17-15 record. Been a struggle, but glad to make it above .500 and only 1 game behind the Twins for 1st place.

                              Some stats
                              Miguel Cabrera .358 7HRs 22RBI
                              Nick Castellanos .317 3HRs 19RBI
                              Victor Martinez .295 5HRs 15RBI
                              Rajai Davis .328 1HRs 10RBI

                              Justin Verlander 3-2 2.91ERA
                              Shane Greene 3-2 .307ERA
                              Alfredo Simon 3-2 .344ERA

New closer Alex Wilson is 3 for 3 in save opportunities.

About to start a 3 game set against the Twins before a long road trip.

                              Guys on the DL
                              J.D. Martinez 60 day
Joe Nathan 60 day (done for season)
Alex Avila 60 day (just went down in my last game against KC)

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

Currently 73-50 with the Yankees. 1gb behind the Red Sox for first place in the AL East, 1st place in the Wild Card (fighting with the Tigers).

                                - Traded for Scott Kazmir early in the year to add a strong left arm to the rotation (other than CC whos been awful)

                                - Claimed Ichiro off waivers.

                                - Recently called Rob Refsnyder up from triple A after he was demolishing. He's been a great addition to the team contributing from 2nd or 9th in the lineup and either RF or 2nd base.

                                - Tanaka has been on fire with MLB best 192Ks (14-3) 2nd place for AL CY Young

                                - Beltran and Gardner both out for the remainder of the season ( Will be back for playoffs IF I make it)

                                - Luis Severino dominated double A, and is currently dominating Triple A. I plan on calling him up to the majors before season's end. I'm saving him for my matchup with the Red Sox next week (Can't Wait). Not sure who i'll be removing from the rotation. I'll probably send Adam Warren to the pen for Severino.
