Re: New morale features
So if we choose not to monitor or try to change player morale could a player go from happy to sad and back to happy again on his own for whatever reason? If so then I don't mind it, think of it as a slump of sorts I guess.
Also has it been mentioned how this affects a players contact, power etc. or does it affect them in other ways.
Team role - I suppose if you have lineups and pitching on auto instead of manual it could change on its own but it you have it on manual it won't change.
Contract - Won't change until the off season.
Coaching - If he has a coaching expectation it won't change during the season unless you fire the coach during the season.
For US born players region - If he has an expectation about region it won't change.
For foreign born players compatriot - If he has an expectation for compatriot it could change if your add or subtract a player from his country.
Team performance - If he has an expectation for team performance it could impact morale depending on team performance.
Individual performance - If he has an expectation for individual performance it could impact morale depending on his performance.
Injury - If he gets injured it will impact his morale.
The answer to your question is a player's morale could change without you doing anything but it depends on each player and what his expectations are.≡Comment

Re: New morale features
The hitter can still hit the ball 450 feet, he's just less likely to because he's more likely to swing at bad pitches (theoretically, I guess this doesn't count HUM controlled hitters).
The pitcher can still throw 95, but it's less likely to go exactly where he wants it.
The baserunner still runs a 6.8 60, but he's less likely to get a great jump when trying to steal, so he might get thrown out more.
It's going to affect performance without decaying actual physical athleticism, if it works as they've said.Comment

Re: New morale features
You all need to keep in mind to that this is just the first step. I am 100% sure that the Developers have much more in store for us in the next year and beyond. Heck there are probably things that they have put in under the hood or behind the scenes that they haven't even mentioned. Just so they can build on it and tell us about next year.In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

Re: New morale features
What I dislike most about morale is the star batting spots, 1, 3, and 4. Lindor batted second and hit over .300, Trout in 2014 batted second and won the MVP award. When Springer was in the lineup, Correa batted second. Kyle Seager often batted second.
Star spots in my opinion should be 1 through 5, or at least 1 through 4.Comment

Re: New morale features
They did say in another thread (a developer that is) that hitting a Star player 2nd or 6th won't negatively impact morale, he will just be impartial. Hitting 1,3,4 will have a positive impact; hitting 7-9 will have a negative impact.

Beat me to it. Luis said that batting a 'Star' 2nd won't impact his morale the way batting him 8th would.Comment

Re: New morale features
I wonder if the "star" expectation is dynamic. For example a rookie might not be good enough to be a star but by the time he reaches free agency he might be and by his mid 30's he might decline and no longer be a star.
I wonder if his lineup expectation evolves over time. I like the idea because it prevents or at least presents a downside to one team trying to load up with a bunch of stars.≡Comment

Re: New morale features
It is all relevant to this years games. Only a few of us here have spent any time with hands on of the game itself. So all any of us are doing is speculation at this point. We have watched one stream and about 15 minutes of information on the actual morale system. Until I actually get my hands on the game, play some into a franchise I can say I have no idea how it will effect my game or if I will even like it or hate it.In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

Re: New morale features
This all got me thinking, does anyone recall them explaining the "personality" category on the Edit Player screen? Is it just for things like home run swing, team-mate celebration, etc? Or I wonder if you will be able to go in and edit their preferences in the Morale categories?
I watched almost all of each stream, I don't recall this being discussed. Maybe I missed it though.Comment

Re: New morale features
I'm interested in seeing how Player Morale is determined for Minor League players once they reach the majors. How do they determine which player wants to play close to home and who doesn't care about team performance. I know they don't have morale in the minors, but once they reach the majors they do, interested to see if they are customizeable or random.Comment
